Okay, so I started Atkins three days ago. This is hard! Oh how I miss my chocolate, my fruit, my bread, my whine.. er, wine. :D
I have to say I'm already sick of protein too, but I'm gonna hang in there. I lost 90 lbs last year simply by cutting my portions and exercising, but have been having trouble getting off the last 20ish lbs.
So, omlete anyone? How about a nice juicy steakholdthepotato?
obsessing 04-15-2004, 12:31 PM girl - i just started back yesterday........
hope I can do it this time - 2 weeks would probably be ebough but I have NO willpower!
Obsessing, I don't know if I crave wine or sugar more. Damn, maybe there is something to this carb addiction thing. I don't have willpower either, have no idea how I've done it 2.5 days! Especially since the boy likes to tease and tempt me all the time. :) He's on it too, so I've been getting back by turning on the Food Network and making french fries for the kids. :D
What's funny to me, is that there is virtually NOTHING I can eat in my pantry.
Any tips to stay sane?
Sally, thank you. I haven't made it over to that forum yet, so I'll just hang with this one if it's okay. :)
Shewolf 04-15-2004, 01:44 PM I started the Atkins on Monday ........... I must be one of the few ppl to be really lucky I got ill on Monday so cannot taste a darn thing, by the time my sense of taste is back I should be through the difficult stage :) ......... Wheat an sugar r both major addictives as is caffine so u can see why u r feeling rough the first 4 days .......... Keep at it the results r worth it :D
I'm sooooooooooo bad. I just had a mini-binge on Ritz crackers. Why oh why did I open that cupboard? Well, somebody had to get rid of those evil little things. :)
Shewolf, you lucky girl. I love to take advantage of being sick. It's the best time to lose weight.
I didn't give up caffeine. Tried to cut it in half yesterday, but I couldn't take the headaches and irritability.
princessdy 04-15-2004, 04:19 PM Girl, check out the Atkins book, at least in part. It says that wine, pasta, rice, bread and potatoes all turn into sugar in our bodies ... that's the non-scientific version, AND sugar is a major problem for everyone ... It can git ya good ... So if you are armed with the information you need as you proceed it will be at least a little easier ... or so I found it ... Good luck ... you're doing the right thing!
Princessdy
PS And show me ONE who hasn't swayed from the straight and narrow at one time or another ... just get back on that horse ... :D
ravenglow 04-15-2004, 08:13 PM Im doing Atkins too, its pretty much been a way of life for me more or less for a year and a half. I have to always keep my carbs low or I gain weight fast, and being so short, it doesnt take much before I feel like I am HUGE!!
http://web.syr.edu/~jrsmit02/images/staypuft.gif
I just spent several weeks on an emotional roller coaster and started eating everything in sight...so Ive been back on the low carb wagon 4 days now. So far so good.
I'll never be a skinny-minnie, I just feel better about myself when Im eating better and walking--I MUST start walking again soon!
There are lots of creative recipes out there if you look...Good luck to everyone, its worth the torture!
Polly 04-15-2004, 08:39 PM I can't do Atkins. I have a disease called Scleroderma, and can't at all threaten my kidneys. I'm doing Slim-Fast for breakfast and lunch, and a meal that fits on a salad plate for dinner. Drinking lots of water. Still sip my wine in the evening! ;) I find that a carbonated diet beverage in the day squelches the hunger pangs.
I just visited an AOL chatroom for weightloss a couple of nights ago for the first time, and they were VERY motivational!!! Every excuse, every whine I made up, they counteracted, and they got me going! Tough love, but it was the kick in the pants I needed to get started. I walked a mile yesterday (didn't walk today...tax day...I'm a last-minuter...) and have stuck to my diet with a resolve like I've never had before!
I will NOT be a beached whale this summer! As God is my witness!!! I will NOT go gently into that good night...
princessdy 04-15-2004, 08:43 PM Hey you! I'm the Scarlet around here ... (and there as well, lol) ... :p
Glad you found your motivation Polly. You'll be slim and trim in no time. I still maintain that exercise is the main key. The other things are important, of course, but exercise makes it all ... process and work ...
dy ;)
SnowPrincess 04-16-2004, 12:16 AM I am doing Atkins
I am losing looking great, got the kids off of sugar and they are doing great!!
Sugar is a killer for us! Low carbs maintain our lives.....
Lots of salads and veggies and we are eating great.
I lost REALLY fast on Atkins so I modified it for me, I still have milk and ALL fruits, I have my veggies minus the cattle feed (peas, corn and potatoes)
We drink mostly water, and baseball season is in full force so we are busy wth that, sunflower seeds and beef jerky are good :D
This weekend our BBQ meal is texas ribs with low carb BBQ sauce, a fresh salad with tomatos and cucumbers and the appetizer is celery sticks with cream cheese, desert is strawberries and cantoleope.
For Easter we had steaks, shiskabobs, with the mushrooms, green peppers, tomatoes, onions and low carb chili.
Such great eating ~ it's a good thang~~~~~
Jo-Admin 04-16-2004, 05:58 AM Snow...even at 6 a.m. that all sounded so good...I wanna come hang out with you and Will! lol
Sounds like your doing great with it...I just wish I could force myself to stick to it like you have.
obsessing 04-16-2004, 09:34 AM You go Girl! I always wanted to say that, oh no, I always say it....
If you stick with it you will be impressed. The sugar longings will fade. But AFTER you do induction for 2 weeks there are plenty of sweet LowCarb products out there. And, whip cream(heavy) has no carbs I believe. (This is making me laugh thinking about our other thread about SB-ing - I am thinking about me at the fridge with a huge dream whip can pointed down my throat!!)
Have you read up on the induction phase - it's the one that will really crank up your metabolism. and your energy.
If you fail just start over the next day and try hard to get a few days under your belt of being very good. then it will be easier. combine it with some walking or something.......
glad there are some supporters here for us(shewolf, why do you need it - I saw your pic in another thread?....I know Snow has been at it and is very positive......)
Princessdy - maybe we can talk about it in person soon!
yes polly, the diet soda does fill you up and kind of relieves the need for a sweet.
Raven - I feel like that dough-boy!
ps..i have never given up coffee and found i still lost.
RobsGirl 04-16-2004, 09:39 AM I did Atkins for a while, I got so sick of meat I have a hard time eating it now. When I can actually eat, I usually have a salad and then that doesn't stay put.
Woohoo! I'm down 7 lbs already. I know some of it is water, but my tummy (problem area) looks a little bit smaller.
I'm reading the book and the information on the website and it is very interesting. It's still odd for me to load my plate up on protein and small on veggies, the exact opposite of what I've always been taught, but I do see the wisdom behind it.
Polly, changing to a salad plate was key for me losing the 90 lbs. Portion control and exercise really works, too.
I'm off to grill up some fresh salmon and eggs for breakfast. Last night we had grilled shrimp with drawn butter and garlic. I have to say, some of the things you can eat on this diet are yummy!
Thanks for the support girls. :)

Trust me I NEED it!! Right now I am carrying approx 20lb of flab around the middle, it is not a pretty sight :( .................................
I spent the early part of this year eating like a pig an all the wrong things, cos I was hurting pretty bad ... I have finally gotten to the stage where I feel strong enough to take control of my life again, an I am starting by getting back into my clothes!!! LOL Right now around 95% of my wardrobe will not fit me, not a good thing .......... Next week I start back weight training as well - guess who got weights an a barbell for her B'day YAY!!!
Pretty soon I plan to be tanning on the local beach in my fave bikini again
I actually live off of the South Beach Diet (atkins spin off) lost 20lbs and am now at 5'11 and 139!! Finally!!!
Joi
Cindy 04-16-2004, 05:02 PM I am so excited to have found this thread today!
I started Atkins last April and lost 20 pounds which was good for me. I coulda kept going another 10 pounds but didn't. Then I began to give it up and go back to carb eating.
But Greg joined me too - he saw how much I was able to eat and still be losing weight so he joined in as well. He lost 30 some pounds.
We were both in heaven. But slowly began to gain our weight back. And now we are both sweet little oinkers again in our skin. I have no energy, am so lethargic and feel depressed again.
Greg has gotten back on a couple of times and tried to pull me in with him but I only last a day or so before I reach for the carbs.
Reading this today has me all excited and I can't wait to tell Greg about it.
The way I started last year was by being part of another awesome group of women with a message board. Several of us went on diets and I managed to click with the Atkins.
When I get home from work I will be checking this site again and Lowcarbfriends.com I'm gonna rev my engines.
Thanks ladies. Let's do it!!!!!
Cindy
Polly 04-17-2004, 12:13 PM Well kids, this is the FIRST TIME in a long time that I have kept up the commitment to exercise. I am walking a mile every day, no matter how tired I am or how many houses I've cleaned.
My meal fits on a salad plate, and whatever I can't fit on the plate doesn't go in my mouth! Once I'm done, I'm done, no seconds, and no eating after six o'clock. I'm feeling VERY positive and motivated! We have a wedding to go to on May 8th, ALL of Robin's friends will be there, and I don't want to be all fat, frumpy and matronly looking on his arm. I'm getting my roots colored the week before so my hair will be looking good, and I'm started to tan this week.
Every time I'm bored and find myself wanting to eat, I quickly find something else to do!
Joi, you're 5'11 and 139 pounds??? God, you must be a stick! Here, take some of my fat!:D
Hi, my name is Girl, and I'm a carb addict. :D
No really, these past few days limiting my carbs has shown me how much I relied on them in the past and how bad they made me feel. I'm not missing those spikes in my blood sugar that used to happen all the time, and I have to say, I've not once been hungry on Atkins.
We had BBQ'd ribs last night with low-carb sauce. I think I need to find a dry rub for next time. The sauce wasn't very good at all. Too sweet.
Good for you, Cindy! You sound like you have enough motivation for all of us. :)
You go, Joi! I'd be happy with that weight on my 5'7" frame! One thing I've noticed though, is that every body type is different. I'm a size 12 at 175, but others I've seen are a size 12 at 150 lbs. I'm think 150 would be an ideal weight for me, but 160 would be just fine. I don't want to lose so much that I have to say bye-bye to my tits. :D
Off for a walk/bike ride with the kids. Spring is here and the goslings and chicks are out at the lake.
Cindy 04-17-2004, 12:41 PM Ok I'm revved everyone! I searched Snow P's Atkin's site; I got on Lowcarbfriends.com - everything to psyche myself up for this because I have been down.
I mean to say - DOWN. Just the most horrible feeling than in a long time. I've been terribly depressed, without motivation, overwhelmed, lazy, without focus. The only thing keeping me together of course is the kids but even that - I've not been doing them justice either.
So yesterday I read all this.
I woke up this morning and flipped the computer on and read it some more.
I weighed in - I took my measurements - recorded it all. When Greg got up, we did him too. He's so happy because he's been trying to get me on and I don't make it after less than a day.
So come on folks; anyone on any kind of eating program. Let's share ideas, motivation, thoughts anything PLEASE. I need buddies.
Whatever works is cool and for whatever reason. Some people may want to just eat better for a more positive feeling. Others may want to lose weight- like me.
I'm not much of an exerciser but I thought I might buy one of those pedometers (sp). I heard you can strap them on and measure how much walking you do in a day. I'm constantly moving even in my depression so I am anxious to see if my non-planned exercise will increase with my energy level. I'm going to the mall today and maybe I'll stop at Brookstone and see if they have any.
Come one come call. Help. I'll help you too.
Cindy
Cindy, your enthusiasm is catching! I found some great recipes at lowcarbfriends. Thanks.
Well, the park was a bust. It may be spring, but it's cold and rainy today.
We're going bowling after lunch instead. I won't be getting the nachos and beer this time, but maybe I'll beat my 5 year olds. lol
Happy Saturday everybody! :)
Cindy 04-17-2004, 04:13 PM Greg and I stocked up on slender shakes (he drinks those). He's picking up his diet pop which I also don't drink. I drink coffee like mad and won't give it up for Atkins.
I like to go to Trader Joe's and get their macadamia nuts. Eat up to 20 of them a day.
I bought a couple of Atkins bars but I'm not too crazy about them. Although to break my sugar addiction I will need some fake sugar stuff for a couple of days. Then I'll go full stream into induction.
Bowling sounds fun. But I think I'll take a nap. Yawn.
Cindy
Cindy 04-18-2004, 11:00 PM Ok Greg and I have made it two days on our version of Atkins. I've pretty much stayed by the book except for my coffee. Greg does his own thing. But nevertheless it has been two days. This is the longest I have made it since we started it last year.
So tomorrow is a big day for me. If I can make it tomorrow then it will be three days and I will be over the hump. Yes.
Work is a dangerous place for me because we have alot of ethnic foods and people who bring in stuff all the time. I will pack a whopper of food with me tomorrow to ward off my desire to stray. I'm gonna have stuff to grab in a moment's notice.
Good luck to all of you. Good luck to me and to Greg.
Cindy
Cindy, the nice thing about Atkins is that you can eat a lot, just not everything. Good luck at work today.
I broke down and added a little wine to my diet. Life just isn't worth living without carbs and wine. :)
The pounds are still melting off though. About one a day. 15 more and I'll be real happy.
Shewolf 04-19-2004, 04:30 PM Well 1 week in an the improvement is visable :D I actually have the semblance of a waist again .......... So far I haven't cheated at all - I have my halo ordered LOL-
Cindy 04-20-2004, 08:20 AM I did it. Day 3 is gone. I made it and I am thrilled. This is the longest. I'm really counting on the euphoric energy that comes with Atkins - I've been terribly sluggish for a while now and need a boost to pick up my beat.
I've only lost 2 pounds though since starting Saturday morning. That's ok. Let it sneak off of me.
I'm hoping I will make a swoop downward with a good drop one of these days. Stay off the scale, Cindy.
All the best to you.
Cindy
ravenglow 04-20-2004, 12:20 PM Hi all,
Once you guys make it past induction (and you will--hang in there!!!) or for those of you who have, you'll want to add a few "treats" here and there. I have seen rediculous "low carb" items in the store recently and I rarely indulge in them but Im always on the lookout for more reasonable things.
Last night I noticed in my local grocery store Atkins Carb Countdown Lowfat Yogurt Smoothies, by Hood.
They have only 3 net carbs each and are 10 ounces. I really enjoyed the one I had this morning, I do miss yogurt and milk alot and I was happy to find these.
Try them if you find them..I have had the Peach and the Black Cherry, both very good.
:D
Polly 04-20-2004, 08:48 PM Even though I'm not doing Atkins, I did buy low-carb, multi-grain bread (4 grams of fiber). Will be making lean turkey sandwiches with it for lunch, with mustard.
Found a great little park with a mile trail that has various incline levels on it. Shelby has soccer practice there every Tuesday, but I'll go there other days as well, when it's nice out. I gotta tell you guys something funny: These ladies were out there walking with their little dogs (little lap dogs) and each time they came back to the point of origin (the parking lot) these dogs would be STRAINING for the car, and these ladies would just yank their chains like "No, not yet little mister" and go another lap!:D I felt so sorry for those tired, little dogs! I'm sure they felt like saying, "Hey lady, you're the one who needs this, not me!"
I weigh in tomorrow. I weigh myself every Wednesday. We'll see what the damage is!
Is anyone here NOT doing the Atkins diet?
Dan_Shues 04-20-2004, 08:51 PM I'm not, Polly...
I'm doing the Sesame Street Diet...
C IS FOR COOKIE! IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME! C IS FOR COOKIE!!
One...mwa ha ha ha
Two...mwa ha ha ha
Three...mwa ha ha ha...
And then, there's frying Big Bird up on the BBQ....
Cindy 04-20-2004, 10:56 PM I did it. I've done Day 4. Yes.
Hey Ravenglow, if you miss yogurt, you should go to Lowcarbfriends.com and look up their forums on yogurt. There are ladies on that board who swear by some kind of yogurt that they make. Some of them talk about some kind of yogurt thing to break a stall.
I didn't pay much attention to it because I'm not a major yogurt person. But I specifically remember stuff about yogurt. In fact this morning I was on that site and folks were talking about their danged yogurt.
I am so jazzed. I bought some chicken sausages at Trader Joe's that were so tasty - they had parmesan cheese and spinach in them. Yummy.
And there was this artichoke and parmesan cheese dip that had next to nothing in carbs. I cut up celery and dipped till heaven.
Go Cindy Go!!
Go fellow good eaters!!
Cindy
SnowPrincess 04-20-2004, 11:24 PM WOW, Cindy girl! your doing great, so are all of you!
Well we have to lower our sugars here, (even though Mr. Beer truck driver is a good friend of the Coke driver and just came home with 12 24 pack cases of 20 ounce bottles of 8 differant Coke products!!! YIKES)
YS son 14, is moving home in 2 weeks, its not working out with Dad, so we have to keep his blood sugar stable.
Polly, I buy the low carb bread too, I stay away from manufactored foods :p but we do alot of salads and meats, and we fish, so we have that once a week too, I use the Atkins pancake mix for the fish breading, and I love the old Bay seasoning.
I wish you all the best. I was embarrased to post this, but I will anyway, here is my low carb site, that has my HIGH weight on it (embarassing) and lots of my fat pictures...... I will update with the new ones soon, but heres my big fat website :)
SnowP's low carb site (http://hometown.aol.com/snowydlitezzz/myhomepage/profile.html)
ravenglow 04-21-2004, 05:55 AM SnowP you look great!! You look like a different person! Im glad that you posted the link, you should be very very proud of yourself, and seeing your progress has encouraged me.
Keep it up!
Im trying...work has been very stressful and so has some personal stuff, but Ive done really well this week. My downfall is on the weekends, thinking I'll have one meal, or one day to eat as I like. I try to keep it within limits at first, then by sunday night i'm scarfing down anything in sight. I think my best policy is "Just say NO" for now, Im weak!!
Cindy, I have to check that site out and find out what kind of danged yogurt can help me, I do miss it and if I can eat it and its got extra benefits Im in there!! :D The best thing I ate this week was asparagus---I laid it out on a cookie sheet, drizzled it with a little olive oil, greek seasoning and roasted it. WHen it was done, I sprinkled on some parmesan cheese---it was yummy!
Have a great Wednesday everyone.
Polly 04-21-2004, 07:36 AM I just tried the Atkins low carb bread this morning, and it tasted bitter! What's up with that? I can't eat something if it doesn't taste good. I'm so disappointed!:(
Snow, great site! I think your hair looks better darker. We're about the same size right now, in the 170's? I'm in size 14, want to get down to a size 8.
The chicken sausage sounds really good. I'm guessing it's low-fat? What brand is it, Cindy? I don't think we have a Trader Joe's around here.
That asparagus thingy sounded good too (Hell, anything sounds good right now, I'm starving!). I'll have to try that. Asparagus are also natural diuretics, help you to flush out your system and not hold water.
Bella 04-21-2004, 07:59 AM I'm upper 150's to lower 160's but I used to weigh 209 before my daughter was born. Atkinsy type diets are the only ones that work for me. I started again last week, my birthday's in June, and I'd love to be down to 140 by then.
I have reactive hypoglycemia, and low carbs keep my blood sugar steady too.
I've used low carb for years off and on.
It sure is easier now, than it was five years ago, before it was a fad.
Cindy 04-21-2004, 08:03 AM Ravenglow, I had that same asparagus on Sunday here!! Without the parmesan. Oh it was god.
Snowp - you should be so proud of yourself. Thank you very much for sharing and don't even think of being embarrassed. The only thing you should think of is how you have inspired us and especially me!! I am so excited to see your webpage and your progress. I'm not kidding.
I have been sruggling for months and months now to get back on Atkins and every time I failed. Greg and I would make a promise and he would make it a few days, even a week once - but I could never go more than 1 or 2 days. I have really been spiralling in a depression.
Major. I have been so down and out and fat feeling for my body. I haven't done housework - I've been so lazy, so immobilized.
Then I saw the postings here and voila!! I was so excited I practicaly peed myself!!
Thank you so much for sharing your website. So since you shared your weight, I'm going to share mine.
I am 5'4". I weighed in on Saturday morning at 170. I did all my measurements too but I won't write those down. but I will say that my tummy and butt were almost the same. Round, very round. I'm stuffed into Dockers size 14. Stuffed like a roasted chicken. They are my gauge as they loosen up. They feel like stretch pants they are so fricking tight. It's embarrassing.
The most I ever weighed I think was about 200 or more when I first met Greg. He doesn't even remember how big I was. I was large. That was not real weight though. It was a depression gain and it melted off when I met Greg. I got down to about 140 and then slowly eeked back up to 170, which is when Greg and I started Atkins last April. I really think my ideal weight is somewher around 140-150. I'm happy anywhere in there. I ain't a skinny girl by any means.
Thank you for sharing. Can't wait to meet those of you who will be in St. Louis.
Yes, let's go!! Happy productive eating!
Cindy
Cindy 04-21-2004, 08:07 AM Polly I bought the sausage at Trader Joes and it has no sugar in it. I thought there were Trader Joes all over the US. Get on their website and see if you can find one near you. There are unique sausage combinations in your regular grocery stores but I did find that those had small amounts of sugars in them. I bought one of those though and Greg ate it. I ate the sugarless one.
Truthfully, it wasn't killer delicious or anything. But steak and eggs can be trying after a while so I'm willing to try to like anything that is acceptable. I will lie to myself.
When on the Lowcarbfriends.com website - many women all over the US talk about Trader Joes. They have a lot of very good stuff to buy that fits into our programs.
Good luck.
Cindy

LMAO!! Now drink all your water and you probably will! LOL, The first few days when you start drinking water, you might as well bring the computer into the bathroom, cuz thats where your gonna be:D
The water ratio is 64 ounces and than 1 ounce for each pound you are over weight (I think thats how it goes)
Everyone should be drinking alot of water.
Heres a great water thread
Resons to drink water for weight loss (http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=19771)
Hi Polly yep I am a lose 14 now, I can get into a 12, but I don't like tight clothes.
Thanks all for the kind words.
Raven, weekends is hard for me too, I love chinese food.
DANNO!! LMAO C is for cookie, I remember that song well! LOL
I will write more later, I have to go have my tires rotated and buy some toilet paper:D
Bella 04-21-2004, 05:09 PM Cindy, what I've always done, and it really helped, is every two weeks, for one meal, its free time. Sometimes, that means a Blizzard, or pizza, whatever I'd been craving. One of the low carb sites suggested that and just knowing that that day was coming was enough to talk myself out of it. That won't work for everyone though, some people can't stop if they start.
My daughter started yesterday, now that baby is nearly weaned. She's 5' 9" and hovering around 200 right now. She called me this morning soooo excited, in one day she lost 4 pounds, so she's pumped.
That's the beauty of induction, even if in your brain, you know its water weight, you still feel the thrill of stepping on the scale and actually seeing results.
Snowie, have Chinese, just tell them to hold the thickening in the sauce, and don't eat the rice. Cashew chicken, Broccoli Beef, all that. I love hot and sour soup, and its very low carb.
Breakfast is my worst, I get sick of eggs really fast. Today I had a Salsa Verde, low carb (3) tortilla with 3 slices of deli ham (0). Yummy.
Polly, try the Sara Lee low carb breads.
If you're craving sweets, try taking a low carb tortilla, spreading some cream cheese, peanut butter, and artificial brown sugar sweetner, and rolling it. You can grate some low carb chocolate, I highly recommend Hershey's zero net carb. Roll it up, dip it in some real whipped cream, whipped with Splenda. Its better than lots of gourmet restaraunt desserts.
The Russel Stovers low carb chocolate is fantastic.
The new Hershey's ones are better.
Luna, and Pria both have low carb nutrition bars that are pretty good.
You can make nearly carb free cheesecake with cream cheese, a couple of eggs, some cream, vanilla, Splenda, bake it, its great.
I make soup with broccoli and cauliflower, cream, butter, some cheese, all pureed.
You can also make mashed potatoes by substituting cauliflower for the potatoes.
I can't give up caffiene, I tried, won't work.
It's been my experience, that for low carb foods, for some reason, the Atkins brands are consistantly the worst tasting.
OH, check your regular aisles in the grocery too. I found half the carb pasta yesterday, for only $1.68 for 12 oz, compared to $4.99 for the same size in the diet food section.
My local Hy-Vee stores have started sticking blue arrows on all the shelves that have low carb products. That helps.
Miller Light, Michelob ultra light advertise as low carb, but truthfully, all beer is pretty low carb. That helps too, if you like beer.
Polly 04-21-2004, 07:33 PM Bella, I'll try the Sara Lee bread. This Atkins bread was "vinegary"! That's $4 down the drain!
Snow, that was valuable info about water! I didn't know all of that. I'll bet that's at least 50% of my health problems.
Question: Does anyone allow themselves ONE piece of chocolate a day? I mean, come on, Easter just passed, and I'm looking at chocolate at every turn! I read that the body reacts the same way to chocolate that it does to Heroin, so hey, instead of going to the junkie down the street, let's just get hooked on chocolate!:D
Question: Does anyone give themselves Sunday off? I've been letting myself be a big fat sloth on Sunday...all you can eat, no exercise, go watch soccer games and laze around the rest of the day. My weeks are really demanding, so Sunday is my day to just do whatever I want. Anyone else have a "reward day"?
Cindy 04-21-2004, 09:40 PM Greg and I went to the low carb store and spent a zillion dollars last year. Now all the major stores carry low carb stuff and it's more reasonable.
We never cared for the Atkins bread. Cost an arm and a leg too.
Great cooking tips Bella, thank you very much. I'm on day 5 and I'm running out of ideas for induction. I can already feel my pants loosening up which is terribly inspiring.
I won't give up coffee and cream either. I don't count my carbs at all - some folks can go to a web site called Fitday.com and list all their foods and the site will create a chart for you that divides your carbs, fats, and proteins. Some people really like it.
I did buy the ketone stix last year and never used them so I started using them this time on day 3. Each day I've gotten darker. I am most definetely in ketosis which I guess means I am burning fat.
I want food really, really bad. I bought more sausage. I have roast beef slices. I've got some cans of vegetables (hate canned but I'm in a pinch.) did buy some zuchinni and mom is roasting asparagus. That asparagus is a winner all the way.
I dont' do much in the salad area. Too much chewing for me. I like the creamy stuff.
Well it's homework time for the kids.
Thanks again for all the good tips.
Oh Polly, I've never had a regular cheat day. Nothing planned where I actually 'took the day off' but last year when Greg and I dropped our significant weight. well, we always had soemthing come up where we never made a full week of induction. We would go out to dinner, or go to an event where we ate beyond induction rules and we still lost weight regularly. I think Bella mentioned doing something like that.
For me, when I did cheat and gain a few pounds, it seemed like it took me much longer to take it off a second time. It may be the Atkins way as opposed to portion control diets. One day we went out to Mexican food and Margueritas and I swear I gained 4 pounds overnight. It took me two weeks to make up for that little cheat. It was very, very disappointing.
150, 150, 150. yes I can do it.

SnowPrincess 04-21-2004, 11:40 PM Low carb bread is great, but keep it to a minimum, I probably have a peice a day.
CHOCOLATE~ remember pure chocolate is carb free~ it all depends on what they put in it, chocolate with splenda is fine
Ever made your own peanut butter cups? Melt real sugar free chocolate with splenda, pour into cupcake holders, add low carb peanut butter ( I love Skippys new low carb) add more chocolate on top, let it cool and harden, there you have your own peanut butter cups without the high price.
PORKRINDS~ they go a long way, ever tried porkrinds dipped in a tuna salad mixture of tuna, real mayo and chopped up celery? yummy!
How about french toast? use the low carb sarah lee bread dipped in eggs, and I can't stand the Atkins syrup so I use a big pat of butter and splenda on top with strawberrys!
EXCERCISE~we have a new thing going here every night, before bed we all do push ups, EVERYONE does them Will and the boys and I,
I now am proud to say I can do 15 "girly" push ups in a row!! Tonight I did 9, than a few minutes later I did 15 more!!
I can only do 5 "men" ones, but I am working on that, push ups are a great way to tone the body.
SALADS SALADS SALADS~ Taco salads~ Chef Salads~Tuna salads~Chicken Salads~Dinner Salads
EAT YOUR VEGGIES :)
SUMMERS COMING~lOW CARBORITAS!! Vodka any kind of flavored crystal lite ice and a blender! Or how about vodka rootbeer and cream, or just do the rootbeer and cream for a mock rootbeer float. I love diet A&W rootbeer or cream soda.
APPETIZERS~ Add to the low carborita, or just nibble on:
Cantelope, strawberrrys, blueberrys, watermelon, grapes, YUM
HAPPY HOUR~summer sausage meat and a variety of cheese trays, or a wonderful veggie platter with califlour, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, bunching onions, mushrooms, green peppers, in a high fat ranch dip!
What a GREAT DIET!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope this helps, happy REAL EATING everyone!!!
Cindy 04-22-2004, 07:55 AM Great ideas. I especially like the carborita's.
I've made it through Day 5. Today is Day 6. I weighed and I am down about 4 pounds. Even though it's water weight, I'm taking it. I'm accepting it!! My pants are a titch looser and it makes a huge difference considering how freakin tight they were.
My girlfriend and I are going out on Saturday night and I really don't want to cheat. I would like to stay on track. She will want her marguerita or something similar. I would like to stay on track though and not plan a cheat. I suppose I could drink water or coffee. I guess as I get closer I'll know more how I feel.
Snow can you come by and make those foods for me.
Weight 170/166/150

I love this thread! You ladies are a wealth of information and inspiration.
Bella, you've got some fabulous tips! My guy and I went out for Mexican day before last, and I can't tell you how good that tasted. We're thinking of doing whatever we want for one meal once a week to keep our sanity.
When I saw that the RDA is 300 grams (which is really high, but still...) and we're sticking for the most part to 20, hey, we're all doing better than the average bear, right? Perfection is not required. I think that's a dangerous path to go down.
The same Mexican lunch day, I had a few M&M's, which I had a mild addiction to before, and found that they really didn't appeal to me. Waaaaaaaaaaay to sweet tasting. They've been next to the bed since then and I haven't even been tempted to eat them.
I can't thank you girls enough. I'm gleaning so much good advice and support here. :)
My size 12 jeans are lose and I'm so motivated to get down to a 10!
Cindy 04-23-2004, 01:15 PM This is Day 7 for me on Atkins. I have been committed with no purposeful cheats. I did eat a bite of meat yesterday that looked delicious and I am sure it had some sugar in the sauce of it. Dang. It was only a little itzy bit. Complete accident. Once I tasted the sugar I recoiled as though prodded by an electrical stick.
I am feeling great. Was getting a little frustrated by induction menu stuff and our busy schedule. But I found a great dip from Trader Joes that is low carb and sustains some of my cheat desires and fits in induction.
I'm still on 4 pounds lost, wish it was melting away faster, but that will do.
All the best to everyone. Incidentally this is the longest I've ever made on induction so yippee.

Cindy 04-24-2004, 08:07 AM Well I have finished Week 1. I consider myself very successful. Had a doctor's appt yesterday so they did a weigh in. Their scale matches mine within a pound.
I am planning on going out with a girlfriend tonight - trying to keep my mind on proper eating. A drink? I really don't want to lose my progress. It's gonna be tough.

Have a beer dear :D Make it a lite!!
I posted my mexican egg recipe in the atkins thread, way down below, my brother the Navy Seal was the one that made it for me the first time, he was into low carb and high protein for body building years before I ever learned of it.
my kids alsways love tuna melts, tuna mixed with mayo than put on bread and a slice of cheese and than broiled until melted, we can have them too, just use the low carb bread, I prefer the Sarah lee brand. but many times I just melt the tuna melt in the microwave without bread and than put the melt on a bed of lettuce, yummers :)
hugs
