whiterose 04-15-2004, 02:57 PM Between Sage's new polls and Nessa's admission that she is left-handed, I was inspired to create a new thead.... and yes, new POLL.
I am interested in knowing how many of you are left handed vs right handed. Or, if you are ambidextrous or even semi-ambidextrous, which is what I really am. I favor the left, but can use my right for some things, like cutting with scissors.
islander 04-15-2004, 03:23 PM I am right-handed, but my biological clone is a lefty.
christina923 04-15-2004, 03:45 PM *joining the group*
a lefty, but cut, iron, mouse, smoke ;) and probably other things with my right...
Shewolf 04-15-2004, 04:02 PM Odd one out :D I am right-handed but do a lot of things with my left eg. print, sew, mouse, use a screwdriver etc I used to be totally ambidexterious when I was a teen, but kinda got outta the habit over the years ......... Wouldn't be suprized if I start using both hands to write with once I am back studying tho'
whiterose 04-15-2004, 04:25 PM Nessa, I mouse with my right hand. Matter of fact, I probably use my right hand for about everything except writing and eating with a fork. My first grade teacher tried to force me to be right handed. No matter how hard she tried, I could never ever write right handed.
hehe. . . right handed of course!!! :D
Savannah 04-15-2004, 04:27 PM I am right-handed but mouse with the left. Also shoot pool left-handed -- no idea why.
RobsGirl 04-15-2004, 05:29 PM I'm ambidextrious.
I favor my left to write, my right to cut and mouse.

Gillian 04-15-2004, 05:54 PM Left handed. Can't do a thing with my right hand...well that's not exactly true! Both of my children are left handed too. What are the chances of that? I get many compliments on my hand writing - especially my printing. If I had a dollar for everytime someone has asked if I'm an architect.
Gilly
whiterose 04-15-2004, 05:56 PM Gillian, I should have guessed you were a lefty based upon your signature line. :p
whisper 04-15-2004, 06:36 PM Write, eat and smoke (quit years ago) with my left hand, do everything else with my right.
manofmisteree 04-15-2004, 06:39 PM i suppose i do almost everything with my left....but i can do it with my right, just not as fast or well. therefore i clicked "semi-ambidextrous"
us leftys get discriminated against a lot...
* all those righty-scissors but no lefts in the bin
* hours of sitting on desks made for a righty in junior high and highschool
* notebooks made for righty's
* those smudge marks you get on your palm after writing an essay in pencil or pen.
despite this descrimination i still love all righty's:p :D
GoldieCat 04-15-2004, 07:17 PM I'm right-handed, but if something falls off a table or shelf etc., I nearly always catch it immediately, with either hand... One of my brothers is a lefty, and apparently that makes the rest of us less like pure right-handers.
My YM is left-handed, and so were 2 of my 3 previous guys. Interesting..
Dan_Shues 04-15-2004, 11:03 PM Right handed here...
AdirondackHiker 04-15-2004, 11:41 PM I'm right-handed, but if I need to pick something up off the floor, I often use my toes - does that count?:)
Peachy 04-16-2004, 12:54 AM I voted for ambi too. I write, eat, crochet, smoke, play pool left-handed. But I bowl, mouse, play baseball and can write if I had to right-handed.
LOL AdirondackHiker, of course the toes count!! In fact, Joe thinks they count wayyyy more than the hands!! :D Especially when those toes are painted red!! :p
I'm left-handed, but use my right with the mouse.
Other than the mouse,
I use my left for just about everything.

mike72 04-17-2004, 12:02 PM Whiterose,
i have always written with my left hand. however, i throw right handed. interestingly, when i golf, i drive with a right handed club but when i putt, i have to switch to a left handed one. when it comes to sports, i am truly ambidextrious whis has been a huge advantage for me.
GrizzlyAdams 04-18-2004, 11:18 PM I pretty do everything with my left hand, only using the right hand when I am forced to by how things are engineered.
I most hated in high school and college siting in a right hand persons chair and trying to write left hand. I felt so unbalanced doing it.
whiterose 04-19-2004, 05:41 AM I hate that, too, Grizz!!! It was so unfair that the classrooms did not provide left-handed chairs.
oublyette 04-20-2004, 12:07 AM I am one of those weirdos that is ambidextrous. I do as many things with my left hand as I do with my right, even though I am a right-handed writer. I began as a child training myself because I saw so many kids with broken arms. I didn't want to be one of those people that was helpless and couldn't write. LOL! It might have been a good reason to skip classes though!
oublyette 04-20-2004, 06:54 AM Heya, kimmy!
It's good to be back. And thank you for taking the time to welcome me back. It's so good to know that there are friends that are genuinely glad to see you. I make the mistake occasionaly of believing that I am going through this "thing called life - alone". People like you, kimmy, always reinforce the realization, that I am not. I have to remember that life is a journey, not a destination.
Note - please excuse the NOT (not on topic) posts.
As for writing, I do that exclusively right-handed. The same with a computer mouse.
Now for drawing and painting, I use both hands as if they had the same amount of strength and creativity. I don't even deliberately switch from one hand to the other while doing artwork. I do it subconciously.
Almost all athletic acitivities -- throwing a football, swinging a hockey stick or baseball bat -- are right-handed. But fencing is done exclusively left-handed. Don't ask me why; I don't even know. That's just the way things turned out for me, I suppose.
I also eat totally with my left hand. Cooking is one of those activities done with both, but I do seem to favor the left when stirring food in a pot.
I cut scissors with my right hand.
I'll let you know if I think of other activities that I do with only one hand or the other.
Adam
Atheena 05-11-2004, 09:23 PM I'm right handed for most everything except driving. All those years of driving a stick shift taught me to steer with my left.

Oh yeah? Well, I could make you tell everyone about things I can do with NO hands, you show off, but then we'd have to move this thread!
