Maria 04-19-2004, 06:10 AM You know how I love gifs, and I'm also sad that we can't use them for now, but it seems we are growing too quickly and using too much space around Ageless.
Please use simple signatures from now on, until we are able to set some new rules regarding their size and maybe we'll be able to use some more gifs, too.
Rob is working on that. :)

Very nice, just what i had suggested a month ago! good work mods.
Maria 04-21-2004, 06:12 PM It's not our final decision, it may be provisory, we are thinking of other measures to save space, but we may impose some limits in future that will affect even your signature.
We'll keep you all posted.
whiterose 04-22-2004, 05:09 AM Just a suggestion, but there are scores of members listed in the member directory that have probably not even accessed ageless in a long time. Would it help to remove names from the directory that have not accessed ageless in a certain period of time... like maybe a year? I'm not sure how much space that would save, but just a thought.
Patricia 04-22-2004, 08:08 AM What about other gifs that we use in our posts like birthday cakes and, ahem :), celebrity photos? Should we not use those?
Maria 04-22-2004, 09:59 AM We are going to delete inactive members again, Katrina, as Rob has done twice in the past. I guess that will help. And as for the gifs, we can still use them, no problem.
The site is becoming huge! ;)
Jo-Admin 04-22-2004, 04:29 PM Maria and I have also tossed the idea back and forth of archiving older threads...say things over 2 years old or something? What do you all think about that?
whiterose 04-22-2004, 10:52 PM Archiving old posts would be fine with me. Quite honestly, it is rare that I ever do any searches for older threads. But, that's just me.
youngguy914 04-22-2004, 11:24 PM any posts over 2 years should be archived/moved/deleted.
Dan_Shues 04-22-2004, 11:44 PM As has been mentioned earlier, pruning the non-active members....
To sort of add to the archival of posts...
I was thinking perhaps posts from those non-active members should be deleted outright and not archived (especially if they are past a certain time cut off point)....
If the post was initiated by someone who is now banned...chuck it...
I actually think that by limiting the number of smilies that can be posted, that's a step in the right direction. Even though those lil things are small in nature...they add up and will eat bandwidth up like you can't imagine.
One other thing, that I can think of before I go to bed...and no one would like this, is to eliminate avatars. On a message board, that's a drastic thing, I realize...especially the community msg board we have...but, it is a thought. It would probably cut down on the amount of bandwidth used...
Decrease the amount of Private Messages one can hold on the server. I've started to personally archive mine. I just use Microsoft Office Word...and copy and paste 'em in. Considering the amount of users Ageless currently has....if ya maybe chop 'em in half...or, allow only a third of the amount of messages...might help. My message board...even though it only has a fraction of the amount of people that this one does...(and is actually different board software) only allows 40 total messages. Maybe cut the ageless down to three...
Anyhoo...
Just a few idea's off my ole noggin...

You're right, Dan. I don't like that idea. I think that our avatars on this site is part of what makes it special. When I see an avatar, especially if it's a picture of the poster, it helps me relate to that poster even more. I sure hope it won't come down to that.
Patricia 04-23-2004, 07:57 AM I hope that they don't ban the avatars. Maybe they could just delete the avatars of inactive members. Archiving threads sounds okay, especially in the personal ad and sex forums.
SomeNightSW 04-23-2004, 08:06 AM Is it a bandwidth problem or a storage space problem?

If the post was initiated by someone who is now banned...chuck it... I really hope that doesn't happen. On our side a very thoughtful member was banned recently and I would hate to see all his incredible advice deleted. That would be sad. Besides that, just because someone never came back after their initial thread or was later banned, doesn't mean the other members here didn't contribute to those threads with just as much honesty and emotion as they would have in a regular member's thread. A new member searching through the archives would get just as much out of those threads as they would any other.
Maria 04-23-2004, 08:43 AM My idea is that we shouldn't delete any threads, because they constitute the history of Ageless. I would like to create a kind of Honour Cemetery for Old Threads as I have seen in other sites (you can suggest better names, that is the product of a Brazilian mind).
I think we can have more free space if we reduce the size of the signatures, limit the gifs to some sections like chit chat, and delete inactive members.
Dan_Shues 04-23-2004, 10:54 AM I knew my idea's wouldn't go over well...*LOL*
That's not the point though, I was just throwing idea's out..And I will say, I don't exactly like the idea's I had either. *LOL*
I have seen alot of message boards institute a cut off, though. After so long, a thread is automatically deleted. For some boards with heavy usage, the cut off has been like a month. For others, it's like two years or so...

I like that idea. Topics do get redundant so yes you have my vote. Vote Yes to Combine!!
SomeNightSW 04-24-2004, 01:14 PM I'm not sure what web server Ageless is on or even if the Administrator can access the box but...
If my web server was running out of storage space here's what I would do.
Btw, this assumes your web server is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).
Buy a 250 GB hard drive (< $200) and install in on the server.
Copy the web folder onto the new drive.
Change the IIS web folder directory pointer to the fresh copy on the 250 GB drive.
Change any administrative settings that (on the Ageless Software) have paths that point to the previous version.
Spend the next 2 days troubleshooting :D Just kidding.
I've had to do this before since my web server has had several pc updates since I started it.
If you don't have access to the box and you're using a hosting service...
I'd just purchase more storage by setting up a PayPal contributions link. I'm sure a few people around here would pitch in (Especially if it gave them access to a private forum).
