Extremely Worried

I'm extremely worried this morning. Several days ago, the vehicle used by my ym's family for their animal shelter was vandalized by an individual who's been attempting to poison the cats in one of the stray colonies they care for.

This guy is both sick and mean. He's put out moth balls, poured out anti-freeze, all sorts of nasty stuff. Then he vandalized their vehicle, slashing tires, pouring cat litter on it, nasty stuff. The past couple of days, Caden and his brothers have been concerned that this bozo will try to hurt the cats - me, on the other hand, I've been concerned that he'd try to hurt the men.

Last night around nine EST, they went to do the nightly rounds (they care for strays as well as rescued animals, it's a heavy duty job, believe me, space is limited and they feel horrible having to leave cats and dogs on the streets so they care for them until they can rescue them.) and I never heard from them again. Normally, if they're going to stay out and rescue animals or something, Cade will call and say they're going to be out all night, go to bed. Last night, no call. I'm VERY concerned that this person might have done something to them. (Seriously, BIG Cuban dude, carries an even BIGGER switchblade that he's flashed before, hence the concern.)

I've been up all night, I've called hospitals, police stations, family members, nobody has heard from them, so, if you could say a quick prayer that the men are safe and will get in touch with us this morning, I'd REALLY appreciate it!!!

How awful for you to have this additional worry to think about. :( I'll be thinking of Cade and the others today and hoping you'll hear from him soon.

Thanks guys - I'm VERY relieved to report that the guys are alive and somewhat okay. Cade just im'd from work. I don't have all the details yet, but evidently this bozo tried something last night and they had to deal with it. I'm just very glad they're okay!!

I'm glad to know that he and the others are ok. I sure hope they're reporting all this to the police. :(

I too am so glad everyone's o.k. Working in an animal shelter, this topic is close to my heart - can your local animal services organization not do something about this situation on grounds of animal cruelty - the SPCA, for example? Don't know what your state laws are, but here - this guy would be out of business in no time. ??

I hope Caden checks out the state laws with an attorney. These might protect the animals they are trying to rescue from murder by this murderer. (Okay, so I think cats and dogs are people too!) Since criminal profiling has made some discoveries about those who kill pets, law enforcement comes down hard on people who abuse animals.

I'm glad they're ok! That guy sounds horrible.

Two of our sweetest cats suffered horrible, excruciatingly painful deaths from antifreeze poisoning a few months ago. We still don't know where they got it from, and none of the other neighborhood cats got into it. We think that someone might have poisoned them. We don't let any of our cats outside anymore. People don't realize how dangerous antifreeze is to cats (even walking through a tiny bit of it). It makes me sick to think that anyone would intentionally cause such horribly painful suffering to any creature:(

I'm relieved to hear that Caden is okay. I hope that this guy pulled something so that they can go after him legally. Some people need to be removed from the gene pool and this guy sounds like one of them. I can understand not liking cats, I can't understand the need to harm them. People who do are seriously twisted and need to be put away for all our saftey.

There are laws coming all over the country to make harming an animal a much more serious offense than just property damage. If one comes up in your area, I hope that you will all support it as much as possible.

Oh, that's just awful! I think people who harm animals are the worst form of life.

Molly, Glad he is ok. It must be so hard being apart and not being able to "know" what is going on.

Molly, I am sooo glad they are okay. This man sounds just horrible and disgusting. Anyone who can do things like that to animals I think personally would also have no problem harming humans.....They are just sick. Please let us know what happened. And ((hugs)) to you. Im so sorry, you must have had a terribly restless night...
