Bella (I think it was you) who recommended this book. So far I'm only on the first chapter, but a story I was surprised by. Totally not what I thought it was going to be. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm really enjoying this book. I'm almost ready to jump on a plane to NYC to see the musical on Broadway!

Thanks!

I have that book. I'm just rereading it, in fact. Personally, I like it even better than Wicked.

If you discover you really like retellings of fairy tales, there's a lot more to choose from. Examples:

Beauty by Sherri S. Tepper. An amazing work, very dark in places but really makes you think.

Tam Lin by Pamela Dean. Based on an old Scottish ballad, it rambles a bit but it's set in recent times. Original and charming.

Briar Rose by Jane Yolen. Absolutely stunning and masterful. She weaves the story of Sleeping Beauty in with a setting of WWII and the persecution of the Jews.

The Nightingale by Kara Dalkey. Based on a work by Hans Christian Andersen, this delves into Japanese culture and is a pretty nifty read because of it.

The Fairy Tale Series, edited by Terri Windling and Ellen Datlow. A collection of short stories written by current authors, all of which are based on fairy tales. Authors that have contributed to this series include Joyce Carol Oates, Neil Gaiman, John Crowley, Anne Bishop, Gene Wolfe, and Charles De Lint. There are several volumes in this series and they're all excellent. Individual books in the series include:

Snow White, Blood Red
Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears
Black Thorn, White Rose
Silver Birch, Blood Moon
Black Swan, White Raven

Have fun!

No problem. :)

And I have that book as well. Some of my favourite stories in there are Ruby Slippers (really original and sassy), Roach in Loafers (cracked me up), Masterpiece (chilling), The Fox Wife (haunting), The White Road (eerie) and The Printer's Daughter (sweet and cleverly written).

You'll have to tell me what you think after you read the book. Enjoy!

Have you read Lost by the same offer as Wicked? I'd really like to know how that one is.

No, I haven't read that one yet, although I heard that the main character is hard to like. Some people like the book but some absolutely hate it -- there doesn't seem to be any middle ground. I'll probably get around to reading it when I find it in my local used bookstore. :)

Thats awsome you read Wicked!! I'm so glad...its a great book. I actually just bought the 'Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister' last week and can't wait to start it. Don't feel bad Em, it takes me forever to finish books....my eyes start to hurt if I read for extended amounts of time. Anyways, I'm currently reading 'Sushi for Beginners' by Marian Keyes.....I love her books!!!

LOL...seriouly...I really mean forever! LOL
But yes, thanks for recommending Wicked. It was a super fabulous book.
I'm reading "Star" by Pamela Anderson....and I have a feeling I will finish it rather quickly...the first chapter alone is pretty interesting. After this book, I will definately get Confessions of an Ugly Step Sister.
