A girl I used to teach is now a close friend of mine.
I read on her 'livejournal' that she's unhappy with her weight.
I've known her since her sophomore year in high school....and she has lost weight, but looks like she gained muscle and toned out a bit. She's a bigger girl....even if she lost a ton of weight...she'd still be, for the lack of a better word, "thick".
But what was really shocking, was when I read that she sometimes makes herself throw up.
Honestly, I used to think about doing it...even tried it, but I just can't make myself throw up. Plus I had heard all these warnings. Anywho, for me, that was many many moons ago...but I want to know what kind of negatives there are to making yourself vomit?
I know a few, but I would like to sit her down and have a heart to heart talk w/ her and let her know what damage she is doing to her body....help please!

Thanks!

EMCAD80~

My best friend went through this as well. Everytime we would go out to eat or even if we were at home and had a dinner or something she would rush right to the bathroom. I would get so angry with her. I talked to her about it. She did it for quite a few years off and on. She no longer does it, thankfully.

As far as negatives, one I know of is tooth erosion from the stomach acid. :(

1love and EMCAD80--My best friend used to do this too, in fact I had a couple of close girlfriends who did this.
This is actually a disorder, and talking to the person who has it is a good first step but its not enough. The person may need professional help to stop themselves from doing this.
In many cases they cannot control themselves because the binging/purging is not the problem--its just how the real problem is manifesting itself.

The enamel erodes off the teeth from the stomach acid, but this can also be fatal, I think if the espophogus ruptures.
Another good indication of a problem is bite marks on the fingers near the first knuckle and broken bloodvessels around the nose and eyes.
Good luck EMCAD80 and youre a sweetheart for caring about your friend.
I hope it all works out for the best!
