being a cheap date

Ok. Righto. OM has just asked me to come on holiday to stay with a few friends of his. It's going to be tricky for me to get away as I have a pile of work to finish with a deadline soon, and a strain to pay for the flight. He's offering to pay, and suggests I just come for the weekend.

I thought that Yankeegrrl's point suggestion that I make myself a cheap date was a really good idea. Because I really don't care about going places and doing fancy things (if I did, I wouldn't be doing this job) So I'm going to say no. For both work and financial reasons and it's way too early anyway.

But this is tough, people. I think he's great. I haven't been on holiday since I started grad study 6 years ago. But then again - holiday with new guy. That doesn't just involve getting on a plane. My guess is that, knowing me, I'll have to worry about reviving a swimsuit, dealing with the bikini line, finding things to wear, I don't have a suitcase, etc. etc. So it won't just be a weekend, right? It will chew a week out of finishing my thesis? Right???? I've got to say no????

It depends 100% on whether or not you feel ready to go. Understanding that this will move your relationship to a new level (I'm assuming it's a new relationship), do you feel right about this? If so, then sure, why not?

I agree with you, Amina...but if Sophies got work to hand in then I think it may just not be the right time. As much as this trip may sound appealing, please put your work first....its wayyyyyyyy more important and missing deadlines isn't good.

Update us of your chioce. :)

I'm the type to go.
But that's just me.
The wild side of me says drop everything and go...get that sexy new bikini or revive one. Get your bikini line worked on and fly away!

But the responsible boring side of me says....crap, I've got to do this, there are too many consequences hovering over my head.

I'm sorry I can't be of much help....just think about it.

he phoned this morning, and he'd spent a couple of hours checking out flights. I told him that I really didn't think it was a good idea yet...but if he wanted to organise something fun to do when I'd handed the thesis in, then that would be amazing.
All went quite well, and I feel really good about the decision.
A little sad, perhaps, not to be flying off to lie by a pool with the man I'm crazy about, but if my work stuffs up as a result I think I'd be a nightmare anyway.
I've just been and bought myself a pair of bright green slingback kitten heels as a reward. I'm not sure if they're terrific or terrible but they're making me laugh. Any thoughts on bright green shoes?

Thanks, all, for your advice on this
