I thought it would be fun for those of us in international relationships to share pictures or websites that will teach us more about our significant other's countries. I love learning about the world. :)

Here's a link to a beautiful collection of photos from the Romanian mountains.

Wonderful Mountains of Romania (http://www.mironb.clubromantic.ro/Mountain/Thumbnails.html)

Although Remi was born in the Transylvania region, he grew up in the Moldavia region in the northeast part of the country:

I hope others will post photos or other links about their significant other's country from time to time.

I'm looking for a good link with lots of pictures of Australia. As soon as I find what I want, I will post it.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/26/26_11_6.gif' alt='Koala' border=0></a>

In the meantime, I have posted a picture of Melbourne, where I live with my husband.

I also have to find a picture of Turkey, because even though Hasan was born and raised in Australia, he is Turkish. I will find things about that country as well, because my husband lives a culturally integrated lifestyle.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/681.gif' alt='Turkey' border=0></a>

Here is a link I found that tells a lot of the history with some nice pictures of Melbourne. I wanted to add, that Australia, although geographically almost as large as the United States, is divided into only 7 states! Northern Territory, Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria (Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria), New South Wales, South Australia, and Tasmania.

Melbourne is a beautiful city with a lovely mix of Victorian and contemporary archetecture. The suburb I live in (Richmond) has a large Asian community. When I go shopping it is like walking along a market street in Saigon. Lots of outdoor Asain markets with fresh fruits and vegetables. Small Asian groceries with all the strange packages and bottles and cans with labels I can't read. Dress shops filled beautiful fabrics woven with gold threads and exotic jewelry pieces. And every other business is a restaurant serving Malaysian, Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Japanese quisine. I do my shopping along Victoria Street which is nicknamed "Little Saigon."

Keith was born in Weston, Ontario, Canada. His parents were born in Nefoundland before it was ever a part of Canada. His grandparents and the rest of his extended amily on both sides were born in Scotland. He's lived throughout most of Ontario. As well as Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta and throughout all of Newfoundland.

Confederation Bridge
One of the most challenging engineering projects ever built. Its design and construction were completed over 4 years by more than 2000 people. The final structure is massive. It is about the length of 117 football fields. It weighs almost 3.5 billion kilograms. If the average person weighs about 70 kilograms (155 lbs) the bridge is the equivalent of 50,000,000 people - more than one and a half times the population of Canada!

The Confederation Bridge actually consists of 65 separate sections which were each built on land and then moved into precise positions by a satellite-guided floating crane.

The Bridge Links the Canadian provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick together, as part of a promise during Confederation back in 1873, hence the name Confederation Bridge.

Empress of Ireland
Around the same time The Titanic sunk in the Atlantic, The Empress of Ireland also sunk. The Empress of Ireland sinking is the most tragic marine disaster in Canadian history. In the summer of 1914 only hours into her first voyage, right off the coast of Quebec, the Empress went down as it collided with the Norwegian collier, Storstad and sank in the gulf of the St. Lawrence River. Most of the people on board died. Today this is literally an underwater museum. You can dive this wreck that has been preserved tremendously since the water is very cold there. There is also a land musuem in Romouski, Quebec that you can tour to learn more about this horrible incident.

Hollywood Walk of Fame (Stars) in Canada?
You know the famous stars that are displayed on the sidewalks in Hollywood? Would you believe Canada also has their own Walk of Fame?? It's true. They are in Toronto and are just like the ones in Hollywood, CA. Of course the names are different. ;)

Newfoundland is the American equivalent of Alabama. Newfies talk real funny too. It's very hard to understand them. It's almost as if they have their own language. Beautiful province though! The geography is breathtaking! Newfoundland is called The Rock because of rocks like this. http://www.ctv.ca/generic/staticPages/AM/images/JeffsAdventures/Newfoundland-jeff-in-canoe.jpg

The Romanian architecture is amazing.

And I never knew there was a gold rush in Australia!

What a great thread!

My guy lives near Munich in Bavaria, Germany. We will be going to this location often during the next two weeks for the Christkindlmarkt Webcam at the town square (http://www.wildcat.org/%7Ewebcam/webcam2.jpg)

I can hardly wait!
