MerAlove23 08-02-2004, 10:02 AM Hi everyone!!
Has anyone tried this new birth control or know anyone that has......
it's new.. and I usually take Ortho Try cyclen, which I like, but this idea of only having your period 4 times is VERY appealing... LOL... besides I only need the pill for a year because I am going to try and get pregnant again next year.....
any Info would be greatly apprieciated... I am just curious if it works....
thanks!!
whiterose 08-02-2004, 11:05 AM Wow, even as an RN, I am out of the loop. This is a new one on me. Here's a couple of links I found on the internet about it.

http://www.drugs.com/seasonale.html
I'd recommend that you write down a list of questions and ask your doctor for more information about it. Always a good idea no matter what medication he/she has prescribed.
Bella 08-02-2004, 11:12 AM Hey Mer, I'm on it. Works so far anyway.
You are more likely to have breakthrough bleeding at first than with other pills is the only difference, besides way less periods a year.
I know women who've been doing the same thing with regular birth control pills for years, and its been approved in Europe for years, so don't worry a bit.
The same concerns as with any other BCP is all.
MerAlove23 08-02-2004, 11:20 PM Thanks Whiterose..... it's really new.....
Bella.. my sister was told by her doctors to manipulate her reg. birth control due to the severity of her periods....Nice to know it's working for you.... I have been so used to NO PERIODS for 10 months.. it's wierd even going back to it LOl.... I was lucky I only had my period for two weeks after I gave birth.. I know women who had it for six weeks thank god.. LOL.....Thanks for the Info!!!
First Love 08-03-2004, 01:09 PM Hey Mer ---
So I was thinking of doing it, however I found something called the NuvaRing which I am loving. You just put it in your vagina and 3 weeks later take it out. Really simple and it doesn't even feel like its in there and during intercourse your partner can't feel it either.
I think Seasonale would be my second choice because I LOVE the idea of only 4 periods a year!!!! I just stink at taking pills EVERY DAY :-)
Here is a link to the Nuva:

-Cheers!
MerAlove23 08-04-2004, 08:29 AM Thanks First Love I have heard of that and Amina... I heard of that also... Unfortunatly I couldn't do either of them..Nuva ring I've never heard anything negative about them yet... but I couldn't have an object up there .... I don't know why but I can't... it's one of those qualms I have.. and the Depo shot... I know it's worked for some.. but my girlfriend had a hard time with that...... I like the pill .. it has always worked for me... with No side effects and never once got Pregnant while I was on them and that was for 11 years I've been on the Pill.....Although they say it could take months to get pregnant after you stop the pill LOLOL yeah right I got pregnant a month and 1/2 later...I stopped the pill late september and concieved the second week of October LOL... but I know some they do have issues....
First love.. it is a wonderful thing not to have you period every single month.. I wish it was one of those things we can turn off and on LOL...
Thanks for the info guys!!! This is why I come here because you are so helpful and Caring!!
Love you guys
Mer
EMCAD80 08-04-2004, 02:55 PM I am also conforted by the pill. Knowing that I am physically taking it makes me feel at ease. The Nova ring freaks me out...same with the patch. I would do depo...but I've heard some cons to it. I'm currently not on anything...but plan to get back on BC soon....was thinking about Seasonale....it would save tons of $$ on tampons :)
MerAlove23 08-04-2004, 04:50 PM I could NEVER do the patch.. I'd forget to put it on.. at least if you miss one pill your ok... jeezz i'd be pregnant monthly LOL.....
Definatly save a lot of money on tampons LOL
EMCAD80 08-05-2004, 12:42 PM I'd forget too!
My friend is on it...and she is out in the sun A LOT and the patch leaves a sticky residue that stays there forever...she got tan lines where she had a patch two weeks before! crazy.
meshunny 08-05-2004, 08:17 PM You can remove the sticky with a bit of nail polish remover.

I'm not worried about the stickies even though that would be yucky LOL I would forget it and get pregnant immediately LOL...My doctor told me not to take the patch.....
I just want to eliminate my period as much as possible.. I got spoiled by being pregnant for 9 months LOL
meshunny 08-06-2004, 08:31 AM Oh, I meant that for your friend with the sticky behind. I wear a hormone patch and although it is not really romantic, I can't take the pills because they were building up in my liver. I had a hysterctomy at 35 and have done HRT since them. Pills for years.
Then the patch. They are sticky and cause a mess. One morning, I woke up and couldn't find my patch ! It was gone ! hmmmm
I found it on my husbands BACK !! LOL
MerAlove23 08-06-2004, 10:06 AM LOL Meshunny......You gave me yet another reason not to use it... heheh

Was he feeling all emotional the next morning? lol
whiterose 08-07-2004, 05:11 AM I don't know if the contraceptive patches are any different, but I tried a patch for hormone replacement therapy and I could never get it to stay on. Like meshunny's, mine ended up in the most bizarre places. :p
EMCAD80 08-07-2004, 10:23 AM In the commercial for the patch it shows women working out, going swimming....my friend uses it, I've never heard her complain.
foxyeyes 08-07-2004, 09:31 PM Well I'm with Amina.. I LOVE the depo shot. Had some slight beeding with the very first shot and have been periodless for over 5 years.
When I tried to conceive after my first child was born and stopped the depo it only took less than 3 mo to become pregnant as well.
Its to bad you have ruled this method of birth control out...everybody I know who takes it is very satisfied. Hope you find one that works for you :) good luck.
MerAlove23 08-07-2004, 10:49 PM I heard pros and cons.... I just prefer the Pill... I have been on it for 11 years.. and always worked for me with no sides... so i don't want to stir the pot :) I just hate my Period LOL

when do you go in for your shot...is it every 3 months?
foxyeyes 08-09-2004, 08:41 PM Yes, I go in every three months for the shot..they give u a week time span to come in,usually during the typical week u would be having your period. The shot is great since it works instantly.
EMCAD80 08-10-2004, 01:32 AM Hmmmm...sounds appealing...what are the side effects?
foxyeyes 08-12-2004, 01:58 PM Well for me the only side effect was the loss of my period which I did not mind a bit :) but some people have experienced bleeding slightly while on the shot...for me that only happened with the very first shot, then it stopped completely.
Some people have reported gaining 5 pounds over a course of a year. This hasn't happened with me or others that I know that take it.
Anyway, as with most medications, if you smoke your risks of different complications could always materialize.
