Wear a very tight bra night and day. If that doesn't stop it,
get a pill from the dr. Women use to bind their breast. Check the online LaLache (don't know how to spell it either) sight.

I wish I could recall how long it took for me to stop producing milk. I can't recall, though. But, seems to me that it took maybe about six weeks?? Dunno. But, of course it was a gradual reduction. I do recall getting that tingly sensation when my babies cried for quite some time afterward.. but just didn't produce milk.

How long has it been for you since you stopped breastfeeding, Mer?

Here's a link to the

LA LECHE LEAGUE SITE (http://www.lalecheleague.org/)

I didn't search it for information, but maybe you'll find something there.

I can't remember how long it took but I think it was only a couple of weeks.. but whatever you do, do not let your husband play around with your nipples as this will keep them stimulated thus they will continue to produce milk. Taking a nice hot shower will also take the pressure off of your breasts engorgement while your trying to stop the milk production. :)

You're breastfeeding the baby for less than six weeks? The American Academy of Pediatrics says that breastfeeding is recommended for the first 12 months of life and longer if the mother and baby desire to continue. There's a reason why the baby didn't want the formula, it's not what baby should be getting.

Theo.. although i agree breastfeeding is great for a baby.... BUT HOWEVER.....He loves the formula.... and ALSO.... My baby had breastfeeding Jauntice..... so I HAD to put him on formula to bind the biliruben because Breast milk does not do that....formula did.. besides you have to know exactly how much he's eating .... My doctor had us on a very strict schedule.... and therefore it worked and his Jauntice was gone within a few days :) So....Not everyone in the world is breastfed.... and NO you don't have to do it for a year.... You breastfeed if you can.. but the "working" woman it's very difficult......I give it to women who can but "breastfeeding" is a choice... and bottlefeeding... is just as good..,:) Besides my question is How do I get my breasts to stop lactating....:)

The decision to breastfeed is a personal choice for the mother and father to make. I'm sure that Mer thought of all the implications before she decided to stop breastfeeding.

Anyway, her thread was about asking for tips on how to stop lactating. Any tips, Theo?

Well, Whiterose, there's no need to be sarcastic. As far as the stopping lactation, my mother, who breastfed both my sister and I (me, for 14 months while going to law school, my sister for 18 months while working as a full time attorney), recommends, if you choose to stop lactation:

- Tie warmed leaves of dhatura (herb) on the breasts.

I am a man, but that does not mean my concern is not genuine, nor my knowledge when it comes to this topic valuable! :)

The formula people have had their propaganda machine going for years, having mothers with perfectly baby food produced by their own bodies use formula, which by the way they make boatloads of money on. I didn't know if mera knew all her options.

good luck

I wasn't being sarcastic. Sorry that you took it that way.

Can you tell us more about the dhatura leaves? I read in the link you provided that it is a poisonous herb. How does a mother know how many leaves would be safe to apply?

theo thanks for your input... but Yes I do know all my options.... I would of breastfed if I could... but I couldn't..... but I dont' think forumla fed babies are any less privlidged.......
My son who is now 2 months old is on Cereal to also cure his acid reflux....I couldn't do that if I breastfed... and the drs. would of stopped me... so there are various reasons why people don't breastfeed :)

I didn't find whiterose to be sarcastic...she just stated that I looked into everything first... I am a Mother now... and have done TONS of research on VARIOUS of topics... and I did that since the day I knew I was pregnant....and she was trying to get the Thread back on track where it was me asking the best way to STOP lactating :)

I breast fed all of my children. But on my oldest son I had to quit when he was 6 weeks old as we kept passing thrush back and forth between us. It was painful to me and to him. We had tried everything the doctor wanted as i had lots of milk. Always when i was in hospital i would pump to feed at least two other babies besides mine. The preemies. I didn't pump after i went home from the hospital Unless it was very necessary for some baby at the time and that was only once and not with my oldest son.

But with that much milk trying to stop was difficult. I did the hot shower thing and the milk comes out and relieves the tightness.
I was very careful not to drink any tea ( When nursing I usually drank a pot of tea (herbal)) as it did stimulate the milk. I wore tight bras with double pads. Sometimes the milk came out around the pads and I was vey embarrassed. I also cut down as much as I could on all liquids. It took about two or three weeks to stop i think.
