DARKESTYET 08-23-2004, 05:22 PM IM FEELING REALLY BAD TODAY...WASTED MORE MONEY ON A LAWYER WHO DIDNT KNOW DIDDLY SQUAT ABOUT WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT...
ITS BEEN MY IMPRESSION THAT A K3 VISA IS MORE OF A SURE THING IN TERMS OF THE RISK OF DENIAL...AND WITH A 32 YEAR AGE GAP ..WE HAVE TO CUT OUR RISKS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, KNOWING THAT THE RED FLAGS ARE HUGE AND WAVING ON EVERY FREAKING FORM...1950 ME 1982 HIM...
MOST PEOPLE HERE SEEM TO GO FOR A K1 VISA...AND IM WONDERING WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE BESIDES THE FACT THAT ITS A COUPLE OF MONTHS QUICKER..
IM LEAVING FOR ISTANBUL ON SEPT 10...WERE GOING TO HAVE A CIVIL CEREMONY THERE AND ILL COME HOME AND BEGIN THE PAPERWORK NIGHTMARE...
ANY ADVICE OUT THERE? SERDAR AND I HAVE READ FORUMS EXTENSIVELY AND EVERY WEBSITE KNOWN TO WO/MAN AND IT IS JUST BEYOND CONFUSING..
IM GETTIN A HEADACHE....HELLLPPPPPPP
whiterose 08-23-2004, 05:31 PM I know what you mean. It's a hassle, isn't it? I think I may have referred you to visajourney.com before. If not, go there and check it out. There may be a post in their forums with a similar question. Or lovingyou.com has an immigration forum although it doesn't seem to be a very active forum.
If Turkey has Direct Consulate Filing, you may want to check that out. Some embassies will allow that, some won't, and some will under certain circumstances. That is supposed to be THE quickest way to get a spouse here.
As far as whether a K-1 or K-3 is best, well, I've always heard that the process is practically the same, but that the K-3 may take longer. Some other members with more immigration related experience may comment differently, but that's what I heard anyway.
I know what you mean about concern about the age difference. I worry, too, even though my gap is not as large as yours. The attorney I went to said he didn't think I needed to worry about it, but of course we worry!!
I think that the main thing that you need to do is have plenty of documentary evidence that you two definitely have an established romantic relationship.
Please do come back here often Darkestyet. If for no other reason than you can whine with the rest of us women who are trying to get our guys with us here in the U.S. :)
We are planning to have an LDR chat this Saturday night at 6:30 pm here in our chatroom (eastern U.S. time zone). I may not be there, but there will be others who are planning on participating. I hope you'll join us.
And, I'm going to move your thread to the LDR forum.
DARKESTYET 08-23-2004, 05:42 PM THANKS WHITEROSE!! YOURE A SWEETHEART..REMI IS A LUCKY GUY..
ILL TRY TO BE THERE SATURDAY.THANKS!
christina923 08-23-2004, 06:21 PM i don't know which would be better...but i'm surprised that an immigration attorney could not give you a direct answer?
whiterose 08-23-2004, 07:31 PM They're good at taking the big bucks, but not at giving a straight answer, aren't they? ;)
DARKESTYET 08-23-2004, 07:45 PM MESSAGE ON A GRAVESTONE....
HERE LIES A LAWYER. AND AN HONEST MAN
WOW THEY BURIED TWO PEOPLE THERE!
HEHEHE YEP YOURE RIGHT! THIS GUY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EXPERT IN THE MIDDLE EAST VISA PROCESS.. DOWNTOWN CHICAGO ON LA SALLE ST!! HE DIDNT KNOW WHAT CONSULAR FILING WAS!! AHHHHHHHHHH....ON WE GO WITH OUR FAIRYTALE ADVENTURE...THIS WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE MINOR CHARACTERS LIKE A HARD OF HEARING TROLL OR SOMETHING EH?PAID MY NUGGET OF GOLD AND ON WE GO!
whiterose 08-23-2004, 08:06 PM Well, if he didn't know what Direct Consular Filing was, then you've got a problem. I'd definitely ask around for another consultation with another attorney. Maybe you can find someone who is willing to give you a free consultation.
GerryRae 08-23-2004, 11:12 PM Spousal is a wonder. Would like to share someinfo and how I did it myself. please Im me at gerryrae1949
christina923 08-24-2004, 02:52 AM well, it must be true for lawyers too...someone has to graduate bottom of the class ;)
~Guinavere~ 08-25-2004, 06:53 PM Whiterose had a link to the direct consular link somewhere in the immigration thread. I remember Turkey being a country listed as one of the countries that allows direct consular filing. Since you are getting married in Turkey, that is the route I would take to have him come back to the US as your spouse. You will have to contact the Direct Consulate in Ankara.
Good luck!!! I wish you all the best...:)
My husband is also Turkish, but was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia which is why I moved to OZ...and we have a 22 year age gap...
ILOVEMYWIFEY(AY 08-26-2004, 09:41 AM hi everybody, and hi my sweetestheart darkestyet,

whiterose 08-26-2004, 09:50 AM I wish that I could offer you some advice. But, I think that it's difficult for some of us who haven't gone the K3 route to be able to advise you. Most of us have done, or are doing the K1 route ... and I think one is doing the DCF (Direct Consular Filing) method.
GerryRae posted above that she had gone thru the K3 method and encouraged you to talk to her on yahoo about it. Her yahoo handle is in her post above.
Did you not find any advice on visajourney.com?
