ASPEN, Colo. (Sept. 26) - ''Dances with Wolves'' star Kevin Costner has wed his girlfriend of five years, Christine Baumgartner, at his Colorado mountain ranch.

The afternoon wedding, held Saturday, was attended by 300 of their family and friends. It is the second marriage for Costner, 49, and the first for Baumgartner, 30.

The bride wore a white gown designed by Monique Lhuillier and a beaded lace veil. Costner wore Ralph Lauren.

In addition to 1990's ''Dances With Wolves,'' which won seven Oscars, Costner's movie credits include ''No Way Out,'' ''The Untouchables,'' ''Bull Durham,'' ''Waterworld,'' ''Tin Cup,'' ''JFK'' and ''Field of Dreams.''

His most recent film was the Western ''Open Range.''

AWESOME?
This pig left his wife..

He's a hideous womanizer.

Hmm, I don't know the details like you obviously do, but if he has been dating this woman for 5 years, it doesn't sound like a particularly hasty thing.

Just because he is divorced, doesn't mean he "left her for a younger woman."

But, like I say, I don't know the details.

He's a notorious hollywood pig.. and part of those 5 years was when he was still with his wife...

He had a ton of children at home.. and a wife that adored him... I know a friend of the family who said that the wife was absolutely blindsided by it when he left...

I dont think he is a pig. He obviously wasn't happily married if he cheated! He fell in love with this younger woman, sometimes stuff like that happens. I think it is wonderful!

Sorry, but stuff like that never just "happens." People make choices, and they are responsible for those choices.

I don't know Kevin Costner or his ex-wife or their story, and I can't say who bears what kind of responsibility, but...no vicissitude of fate just made their divorce "happen."

Here's another YW/OM marriage this week:

CENTRE ISLAND, New York (Oct. 3) - Singer-songwriter Billy Joel married his fiancee, 23-year-old Kate Lee, in a ceremony Saturday at his Long Island mansion, his record label said.

Joel, 55, wed Lee in a sunset wedding at his waterfront home, Newsday reported in its online editions. Columbia Records, Joel's label, announced the marriage Saturday night. A spokeswoman for Joel could not immediately be reached for comment.

Joel, who was previously married twice, including to supermodel Christie Brinkley, has had more than two dozen Top 10 hits, including his signature song ``Piano Man,'' which was released in 1973 and became a hit the next year.

Last month, Joel's star was placed on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Pantages Theatre, where the Tony Award-winning musical based on his songs, ``Movin' Out,'' is playing through Oct. 31. He is also a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Personally, I don't think these are good examples of happy unions.

Someone already posted about Kevin Costner. Not to mud sling, but Billy Joel "ain't no saint" either.

I feel sorry for his new wife.

Peace,

What is it that makes us obsessed with celebrities and why do we act as if we know them? Remarks like "I feel sorry for his wife." (no offense thatgirl) Why do you feel sorry for his wife? Do any of us know what happens between these two people behind closed doors?

I don't know the details like you obviously do

Nobody knows the details but the people who are living them.

I feel sorry for his wife for a couple of reasons. First of all, I know Christie Brinkley and have heard *her* version of what took place in their marriage. Second, was it just a year ago that Mr. Joel was running into peoples homes while driving drunk?

Maybe it's just me, but this is not a mate I would be very proud of nor would it be someone I'd take a vow to spend the rest of my life with.

What I wonder is why individuals choose to hold marriages such as Kevin Costner's and Billy Joel's as an example of something to be happy about? To me, this seems like an obsession.

My two cents.

Peace,

Here's a sample of the public information available on Billy Joel...

A new romance is just what Joel needs. He's been at loose ends since Carolyn Beegan dumped him last year. Then, the red-haired painter turned down a 10-carat diamond reconciliation ring he offered her. His last girlfriend, Boston public relations exec Anne Maxwell, is said to have put him "on hold" until he tamed his drinking.

But drinking and loneliness seem to go hand-in-hand for the entertainer. Beegan dropped him when she found out he'd been sneaking around with newswoman Trish Bergin. Shortly after, it was Bergin's turn to ditch Joel, who promptly checked himself in for 10 days of alcohol rehab.

And just before his recent run-in with a tree, Joel had been dining with Beegan, who's currently on a five-week vacation in Belize.

We hope Joel's new relationship works out, because he's just no good at being single. "The happiest times in my life were when my relationships were going well when I was in love with someone, and someone was loving me," he told the Times magazine last September. "But in my whole life I haven't met the person I can sustain a relationship with yet. So I'm discontented about that. I'm angry with myself. I have regrets."

Success is no consolation. "You don't sleep with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," Joel said. "You don't get hugged by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and you don't have children with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

If I remember correctly, he stalked the newscaster who dumped him.

a few of us are reading too much into these celebrity marriages.

I don't think they are doing that... I think its just a conversation prompted by a particular celebrity... :) I'm sure nothing is directed at you....

ditto may mommy....I enjoy knowing - or should I say pretending that I know - that the age gap in these relationships have helped one or both of the parties involved in some way. Who knows maybe Joel's new wife helped him calm down with his drinking problem. I know when I dated D there were things that I could do to make him relax a little, to not be so stressed....and I enjoyed doing that for him. We can't judge....because as someone already stated....we don't - and noone does - know all the details but the two parties involved. It's sad to think that they maybe using their older men for $$...but I like to put my rose colored glasses on and pretend like they really are in love. Yes, I amy sound a little naive...but that's just me.

It really saddens me when I hear of age gap marriages falling to pieces...I with both marriages the very best!
