BellaLove 01-20-2005, 01:50 PM Well apparently, Michael has had this skin disease that has badly effected his facial tissue and facial structure as well, so he had quite a bit of plastic surgery done in order to keep his face as in-tact as possible......I really feel sorry for the guy. :-( This is of course the story that lives here in the Santa Ynez Valley. :-)
RobsGirl 01-20-2005, 01:54 PM LoL, Ness - a few years ago VH1 had that tribute to MJ Special and we were flipping around and of course, in the spirit of '80s nostalgia, watched for a bit.
My daughter was about 10 at the time and she looked up and said "Is MJ a white guy trying to be black?" hehe, poor guy. . .
his rear is toast. . .this time next year I'd be shocked if he wasn't somebody's girlfriend. . .some big dude named "Bubba" with lots of tattoos and no hair. . .and they'll be sharing a cell in Atascadero or wherever. . .that is if the poor guy lives through the first six months.
BellaLove 01-20-2005, 01:57 PM Well, no I've heard of vitteligo......I think he has something quite different and worse......I remember in an interview with M.J. he was asked the question as to whether or not he had that disease and he went off about some other kind of skin disease.... I don't recall what he called it.....arg!!
nightingale 01-20-2005, 02:01 PM bellalove, i like your new avatar btw...
i'm wondering if mj's skin disease were there b4 or after his cosmetic surgeries...some ppl get allergic reactions from those kinds of surgeries...i've always wondered about that...

she said one day, one of the cats saw its tail with its little puff ball just laying there and was literally driving itself nuts trying to catch it! Guess the cats have their own amusement toy now...guaranteed not to lose it!..lol ;)
nightingale 01-20-2005, 02:04 PM LOL, that was funny, foxy :D :D
BellaLove 01-20-2005, 02:04 PM thanks n-gale. :-)
I'm curious to hear the whole story on that......I was under the impression that M.J. had the cosmetic surgerys in order to basically keep his face together, I guess he would look a lot worse/scary if he didn't have the surgerys........
nightingale 01-20-2005, 02:07 PM i really wonder how much validity there is to that b/c in his childhood pix, his face looked just fine...didn't look deformed in any way...as a matter of fact, i thought he was better looking then than now...
nightingale 01-20-2005, 02:25 PM anima, U spoke my mind on those cats...at first glance, i thought those cats must be cold, missing their furs to keep them warm...if i were the cat, i would be thinking "where is my clothes...yikes, i'm cold..."
i believe that mj's skin disease is caused by first bleaching his skin, a part of cosmetic surgeries i was referring to previously...
as far as molestation was concerned, the way he dangled his new born outside the window balcony showed a great deal of lacking in discretion, indeed, very unseemly behavior any parent would display...where was his parental protective sensor then if he got any in the first place?!!! i wouldn't doubt that he molested those kids out of ignorance of appropriate parental conducts towards children or pure mental illness...from the tape recorded testimonies of the alleged victims, it did appear that either such could the case there...

BellaLove 01-20-2005, 02:33 PM UGH! The Sept. 2004 pic is horrible!!! His bone is like coming out of his nose!!
nightingale 01-20-2005, 02:36 PM bellalove, i think that u got a wonderfully kind heart for wanting to give mj the benefit of the doubt there...too many evidences all pointed otherwise unfortunately...
there're extortionists out there... that i know...but there's a sleugh of alleged victims testifying pretty much the same thing, not one or two...
i guess we don't have to have some heated debate over this...truths will come out eventually...
fos4snt 01-20-2005, 02:37 PM *shudder* I really don't like that website. It always makes me want to HURL! LOL.
My Mom had a funny conversation with my cousin's daughter (CD) a week or so ago. CD says something about some ladies cleavage and my Mom says, "They're fake, honey." CD says: "WHAT?" Mom says, "They're impants. They're not real." CD asks, "How?" Mom says, "They stuff these silicone or saline implants into the breast through surgery." CD says "EWWW... GROSS."
My Mom proceeded to explain that if an actress is laying down and they are still pointing UP, you can be pretty much 99.5% sure they are NOT real.
9 year old CD finds the thought so singularly appalling all she could do was say "YUCK" "EWWW" "GROSSSS" repeatedly until her mother came to pick her up.
LOL!

fos4snt 01-20-2005, 02:50 PM Ridiculed in his youth? HOLY COW. Who wasn't? LOL.
Let's see... I was:
Bubbalips
Mick Jagger's Daughter
Fish Lips
.. the infamous N word
...and SO many other horrible names. Kids are like that. Ya don't see me rushing out to have my lips reduced! ROFLAO.
I grew up.
I realized kids are cruel. Part of life. Get over it.
Ah well. I don't think there is any justification for his actions to himself or others.

P.S. Natural boobs conform to the laws of gravity, unless we're talking perky little A cups. LOL. Those might keep standing a little, but offer NO cleavage when upright.
BellaLove 01-20-2005, 02:50 PM I try to stay open minded about things.....thank you for saying that about me N-Gale.....I do like to think that I give people the benefit. :-) My theory is...yes he had a sad family history as a child and yes it damaged him very much, its clear to see just how 'childish' he is. But I see him being odd not as a bad thing.....he has contributed greatly to children and their happiness. I believe that people are taking advantage of how kind he is and trying to turn him into some kind of sicko......it makes me very sad. Just about every child who lives here in the Santa Ynez Valley has been to Neverland Ranch and they always share with me their exciting experiences they had there with M.J.......they are all heartbroken and angry that this is all happening right now. They all tell me that M.J. is a child at heart and he is incredibally adventurous. They all got to have awsome slumber parties with M.J. and yes a few times he slept in the same room with the kids, but not in the freakin' same bed as many people in the media are claiming. I just feel like people are trashing his reputation....even our dear ol' district attorney, Tom Sneddon who is a complete a-hole anyways, but I won't get into him right now...LOL
nightingale 01-20-2005, 02:59 PM fossy, mj was ridiculed by his own father, not just some other kids...this makes a big difference b/c children derive their self esteem and self worth from the way their parents treat them and their attitude towards them...this sort of emotional scars run deep...not easily cured...like i had told u in private and had publicly posted about my personal unloveworthiness issue...intellectually i know that i'm loveworthy like everyone else but emotionally i do not know it....and my running behavior had to do w/ how i feel about myself emotionally, not just intellectually...that's not easy to heal from...it WILL take years of being treated like i were loveworthy to cure from that unloveworthy message i was being pounded into all my growing up years...all i'm saying here is that mj's self image or his self loathing over his own face would not be easily cured...
btw, i certainly hope that i didn't come across as justifying his behavior towards others & himself...just b/c there's at least a reason behind every behavior doesn't mean that that behavior is ok or acceptable...
fos4snt 01-20-2005, 03:03 PM Things my Dad said to me:
"Better not stick your head out the window or those lips might beat you to death"
"What, did you get sucked by a vacuum at birth?"
"If your butt was a big as your lips, I'd swear you were black."
I kid you not.
I hold nothing against my Dad's twisted sense of humor. Nor the kids who were just kids.
Just sounds like a lousy excuse to me... oh, poor MJ. POOR POOR MJ.
~phosphorescent
nightingale 01-20-2005, 03:04 PM bellalove, i hope those kids would testify on his behalf...like i said b4, truth will come out eventually...
nightingale 01-20-2005, 03:10 PM fossy, everyone is different and responds to an event very differently...i'll bet that your dad didn't whip u when u didn't dance perfectly...i'll bet that your dad built u up in different ways...
everyone's childhood and the amount of nurturing they get is different...that can affect how a person will deal w/ criticisms or unkind words...the more nurturing the child gets from his/her parents, the more criticisms he/she can take w/o being seriously/severely injured...this is my observation, i do not recall any reading on this incidently....from the documentary i saw/heard, he did not sound like he got a whole lot of nurturing growing up...
as u probably already observed, our perception of the same post is so different...it's our perception that makes us feel, not so much of the event that happens to us...it's a lot more complicated than the way most ppl understand...
btw, i do understand and c where u r coming from, fossy...
nightingale 01-20-2005, 03:20 PM gosh, i certainly hope that i didn't bring in some debating tone into this thread here...this is supposed to be some fun chat thread...i hope we're having fun...are we?:)
nightingale 01-20-2005, 03:27 PM hahaha LOL, nessa, that was funny :D
fos4snt 01-20-2005, 04:18 PM Actually, I find a lot of humor now in the things my Dad said to me then, even though they hurt like hell at the time. LOL. And no, the man worked 60-80 hours a week. I didn't get a whole lot of nurturing from him then. Whippings, yes. LOL. All deserved. My Mom more than compensated in the affection department. ;)

BellaLove 01-20-2005, 04:26 PM I know n-gale...I certainly hope that the truth does come out....but you wouldn't believe how many people are trying to cover it up. ~phosphorescent fossy, this is what i was talking about...the sum total affection/nurturing, not just from your dad per se...
just b/c there was at least a reason behind a behavior doesn't make the behavior acceptable...yes he probably had a very bad childhood...HE is still responsible for his reprehensible acts...i think that sometimes when we offer explanations behind a behavior, it does come across as justifying the behavior as ok or acceptable or that's some sort of natural consequences...however, that was not what i was trying to get at at all...we can view others with an understanding w/o approving their behavior...that's what i was trying to get at...understanding the root of the behavior or cause of their behavior helps US forgive...to forgive doesn't mean that this person should not experience punishment befitting their crime either...it is more for OUR sake than the offenders' sake... anger has a negative effect on our bodies btw...
EDIT: forgot to mention that research found that in the homes where there's abuses, usually one child is singled out...where there's neglect, every child in the family is neglected...this might also explains why mj turned out more screwed up than the rest of the Js...at least we've not heard of any other screwed up behavior from the rest of the Js...we can assume that there're not any more screwed up stuff like those from mj (since we've not learned of any YET) but we can't say w/ absolute certainty that there IS NOT...
FURTHER EDIT: understanding behavior helps deter future occurence of such acts by eliminating factors that contribute to the behaviors, thus help solving the social problems...that's what understanding behavior is for, not as a means of justifying some heinous acts or exhonoerating the culprits...

But, I have the tendency to have crushes on people who can make me laugh. And BOY can Weird Al make ya laugh.
As for Princess Bride. HEY, did anyone else see "Saw?" Cuz, the main character in that is the guy from Princess Bride and I tell y'all... I could NOT get over that fact. It was supposed to be a horror movie, and I kept thinking "Princess Bride, Princess Bride" and laughing!
My bad.

nightingale 01-21-2005, 06:16 PM gosh, that princess bride movie cracked me up big time every time when i thought about that bold headed guy switching goblets and giving some really hilariously funny and logical explanations of which goblet the poison was in...gosh, i just thought that was so funny...and the way he talked to the giant while the giant was on the rope pulling him and another guy up from the cliff...just cracked me up so much... :D
edit: i have a thing w/ funny guys too...guys like billy crystal and other really funny funny ones...i just love to marry one of those guys esp. billy crystal...oprah thought he & russel something (goldie hunt's sweetheart) were such wonderful fathers...that's the kind of guy i like :D
Genevieve 01-21-2005, 07:31 PM I loved The Princess Bride! My kids just watched it again a few days ago. There is a special edition DVD out now. I loved the sword fight. "I'm not left handed.".. "Neither am I.".. LOL
Cary Elwes was adorable in it. He was also in "Robin Hood: Men in Tights", and another favorite of mine, "Glory". He's been in a lot of other stuff.. "Twister" "Jungle Book", and "The Crush" come to mind here too. And also a few episodes of Seinfeld. Great actor all around!

fos4snt 01-22-2005, 12:01 PM Yeah, I have definitely had crushes on funny guys. Funny looking, and funny hearted. LOL.
One of my other childhood crushes? OMG. Bugger from Nerds. You know, the same guy who also was the odd duck in Risky Business, Better Off Dead and Bugger in Nerds. God, I had a crush on him. He was so dang funny!
I guess... I just like a guy who makes me laugh. It doesn't hurt if he's got dark, curly, almost afroish hair, either. LOL! Actually, I'm watching Risky Business right now and I still have a crush on the guy who played "Bugger" in Nerds. I'm so weird!

greeneyedgirl 01-25-2005, 07:44 AM ok, most intelligent conversation i've had so far this morning is with the 2 year old.
our dog, kita, had a toy. Coop's running after her screaming, "mine mine MY BAAAALLLLL!!!" over and over. they're zippin' around the house and if coop catches her, she's left with hair, eyeballs and teeth only.
the punchline to the whole silly mess was when i yell, "Coop! that's no ball, THAT'S A D*MN CHICKEN!" ......twas a tiny plastic chicken.

And hey, the most intelligent conversation I have had this morning is with my Dad (who is hard of hearing right now).
My neighbor stopped by and brought him a newspaper, so the conversation went something like this:
Me: Dad, Jill stopped by and left you a paper.
Dad: Blank stare.
Me: I say, Jill stopped by and left you a newspaper *pointing at table and paper*
Dad: Huh? *looking at the end of my pointing finger*
Me: NEWSPAPER THERE!!!
Dad: *looks around the room, including ceiling and floor, in a confused state*
Me: PAPER, PAPER!!! *pointing finger emphatically*
Dad: Oh! Paper, okay!
RobsGirl 01-25-2005, 11:39 AM My most intelligent conversation this morning went something like this. . .
Defendant comes into the office. We have a pay fine/plead guilty policy where people can pay out and plea off to the Clerk if it's a minor infraction type of thing.
So, this guy says he wants to do that. So, I ask him, as per standard:
Me: Did you do "X"?
Him: Yes.
Me: Did you do "X" on this date?
Him: Yes
Me: You admit to doing "X" on this date in this location?
Him: Yes
Me: So, your plea?
Him: Not Guilty.
So, I say, "Sir, you just admitted to committing the offense. Do you want to pay your fine?
Him: Yes.
Me: So, you're pleading guilty to the offense and paying your fine?
Him: I'm not pleading guilty but I will pay the fine.
Me: Sir, you have to plead guilty in order to pay the fine. Did you not tell me that you did "X"?
Him: Yes, I did do that.
Me: And you did "X" on this date?
Him: Yes, I did.
Me: And you did "X" in this location on that date?
Him: Yes, I did do that.
Me: And you want to pay your fine?
Him: Yes.
Me: And your plea?
Him: Not guilty. . .
It's all pretty much gone down hill from there. . .rofl! :D
RobsGirl 01-25-2005, 12:49 PM No, we had to set it up for a Bench Trial because he wouldn't plead guilty! :D
nightingale 01-25-2005, 01:42 PM jo, is your dad developing hearing problem? sounded to me that might be the case there...
molly, that was so interesting...just wondering if the guy were saying he did x but w/o the intent of doing x...
my most intelligent conversation was finding out that my new roommate the massage therapist is moving back to china w/ her 3 month old infant boy for six months to 2 years to be w/ her teenage daughter of age 13 lonely for mom...so she will be temporarily separated from her husband for that amount of time...i don't c how a marriage can survive w/ spouses being in two different countries by choice and not some inevitable circumstances....
nightingale 01-25-2005, 02:38 PM hey anima, thx 4 pointing that out...don't know what's wrong w/ me lately...misread two posts two days in a row now :(
nightingale 01-25-2005, 03:05 PM not flip at all, nessa...u were right about the cycle thing...since i never conceived or had any children, i've been perimenopausing for the past 4 years (at age 35)...this translates into PMS-ing 75% of the time...according to webmd, there will be 6 more of these years i will have to go thru b4 menopause...in the meantime, i'm merely trying to survive here...motivation is usually very low unfortunately...i notice that new material doesn't get into my head as easily as it used to...but once it gets in there, it stays...thank goodness...it's a good thing that i did a lot of learning in my earlier years...gosh, i simply can't image what i would be like if i hadn't studied so much b4...
nightingale 01-25-2005, 03:36 PM funny how i don't get hot flashes, my motivation just gets so low that i ended up staying online way too much...i just pms 3 weeks of the 4 weeks in a month...gets very sensitive..i'm a sensitive person to begin w/...i'm just now ultrasensitive most of the times unfortunately...instead of having everyone walking on egg shells around me, i just stay away from ppl just so they wouldn't have to work around me...interesting that u mentioned soy, i've been drinking about half a cup a day w/ my metamusel (if i spell it correctly)...other than motivation, & getting the low dips a couple times a month & the ultrasensitivity emotionally & physically (i noticed that my skin would react to products that i normally wouldn't otherwise like the clinique's clarifying lotion would sting during pms so i had to stop using it), i'm pretty normal otherwise...
p.s. oh, also the concentration part of it too...that's ok i'll survive, thanks so much for caring...i really appreciate it nessa :) hey u rock g/f ;)
p.s. oh gosh, now i'm thinking how many other posts have i misread...better go back and check now LOL

ROFLAO. Oh... that one makes me think of when my best friend at age 13 asked me to cut her curly, waist length hair SHORT. Well, I said no several times, then finally said "OKAY!" I cut her hair alright. SHORT. VERY. LOL.
Cutting curly, curly hair is NOT easy... and it kept getting shorter and shorter and shorter. OMG. She looked like a boy when I was done!
NO WAY would I let a teener ~ ANY teener ~ cut my hair. Braid it, style it, brush it... sure... but CUT IT? HAHAHHAAHHAHA.
YOU... I applaud. That takes GUTS. No matter what it looks like, you're daughter will ALWAYS have a funny story to tell there and so will you.

nightingale 02-01-2005, 01:29 PM fossy, that was so funny LOL...i cracked up reading your post there...
a friend (in her 40's) in cosmotology school wanted to cut my hair...i wouldn't let her do it...normally i wouldn't let even a professional to cut my hair if i were unfamilar w/ their expertise b/c i just had my share of bad haircut experiences w/ the so called professionals...never mind someone in training...like fossy said, u were pretty brave for letting some teen cut your hair...i guess i was too chickened and didn't really believe in the wig thing :p...so no guts...yup, i too applaud u for your guts...

~phosphorescent that's so true...u know, u handled it w/ alot of grace & humor...and i applaud u for that just as well...i'd probably be renting and wailing or pull out the last bit of my hair if i were u...ok maybe not so dramatic :D...i know i'd be distressed for sure whenever i think about it, that is...
wildthing 02-01-2005, 11:45 PM well, it was suppose to be a "trim"
but it got kind of short. guess the friend cut it a bit jagged and my daughter had to make it short to fix it. of course, she didn't tell me this until she was done. i did EXPRESSLY tell them i didn't want it too short (just in case it needed fixing).
good thing it grows fast :D
i've been wearing it curly for years, and she thought it would look good straight. and since my perm was WAY growing out, i thought it would be a good time to give it a chance. thought i could always perm it again if i wanted it different.
i've been cutting different people's hair for years. i always used to do my mom's. i've learned by watching the stylest and reading different stuff about hair cutting. so that too made me think it wouldn't be a big deal.

nightingale 02-07-2005, 02:29 PM yup, it's that wanting to create and not knowing what to create thing for me :D...hola sen~or :D count me in jerr
RobsGirl 02-07-2005, 03:25 PM I just got off the phone with a casting director buddy of mine who went to the Sundance Film Festival. . .my God, what the hell do all these celebrities need with all these freebies? Paris Hilton was bragging about taking home close to million in free stuff - she even got into an argument with the hotel rep over the demo model tv in the lobby!!! She wanted it and threw a fit when she was told it was for display only!
What's WRONG with these people that they HAVE to be handed things for being known? I thought Star Jones was bad enough for begging for freebies for her wedding so she didn't have to spend any money (the woman makes ONLY a few million a year, how ever would she have been able to afford such a lavish soiree?? yeesh), but this just boils my cookies.
I worked in publicity for a while and I enjoyed it, roughly, but I don't remember it ever being THIS bad. . .Jennie McCarthy was bragging about nabbing over 200,000.00 worth of stuff in the first day! Granted, these companies can do whatever the hell they want with their merchandise, but Lord, with all the money they gave away they could have fed the entire east coast for at least a month!
Sorry, it just pisses me off that people are handed stuff they don't need, don't even really want save just to say they have it, just because they're either famous or infamous. (I'm sorry, but Paris Hilton has no talent. The only thing that makes her who she is is the Hilton name on the end. Just had to say that. . .) The majority don't even work hard to get it. I've BEEN on sets - twenty minutes worth of lines and Ben Affleck's out playing golf. Yeah, he worked SO hard to earn that trip to Balta they gave him for speaking at the SAG awards. . .
Okay, so it's not a random thought, it's more a random rant. . .
nightingale 02-07-2005, 03:35 PM that's disgusting, isn't it? making the rich richer...
in psychology, they term such a behavior as placating...
i don't know what's wrong w/ paris hilton...she was once on oprah's show for being the model rich kids...i just recently heard of her stealing some item from a store and now this..yikes!!!!

Jerrlover of creating
now, this is one of the biggest reasons i have so many projects that i've started and not finished :D
i can get and idea, get some of the materials, run into a snag, and then am at an impass until i figure out how to go any further.
or i find materials that inspire me and i buy them, but then don't know where to start.
so i have a house, garage, yard and shed full of stuff
as of late, i have really been working on making myself finish the stuff i've started before i get into something new though.

See my signature pic of the Pisces? It's kind of like that, but the fishies are emerald green and all around them are deep blue drops of water and then in the middle of them is a lighter blue water... there are a few white and yellow accents as well. I am really happy with it. The only reason I got it was to cover up an old teddy bear that was just an outline, from many years ago!:)

Thanks, I like it. For the first time, this morning it is kind of dry. Maybe those few drinks I had dehydrated me last night.
OK, last night I went out with my three friends for one of the friend's birthday. We went to a comedy club. First of all, they seated us by the door. So, when people came through, they were running into our heads... that was NOT cool.
Then, about halfway through, birthday girl says that some woman behind me told her to shhhh.... I thought she was just joking. NO she wasn't. That woman and some man came up to me and said "this is a comedy club, no table talk allowed!!!" NO TABLE TALK ALLOWED? WTF?
It was so loud in there with everyone talking and laughing.... I will never go there again. I may make a huge complaint, if I can muster up the energy. LOL

nightingale 02-19-2005, 09:39 PM when i caught the flu last year, i had warm steam for hours at a time two days in a row and my throat felt better right afterwards...the result was very instantaneous...i took some decongestant b4 that and it dried up my mucuous membrane and got more colds afterwards...it was then i stopped taking the decongestant (the severe cold formular) & just took my normal sufedrene and treated my face w/ warm steam for hours...it worked like magic...felt really great when i could breathe thru my nose...
Genevieve 02-20-2005, 02:09 PM I'm sorry to those of you down with the flu bug. One thing that helps for me is Celestial Seasonings Complete Care Echinacea tea. It also has vitamin C and zinc in it. Hope you are feeling better.
Well.. the Jeep is gone :( I'll miss it, but I sure won't miss the payments. Here's my new car. (Well, this one is just a pic I found online). It's white. I didn't want white, but it actually does not look too bad. After driving the Jeep, and having a Toyota Tundra pick up truck before that, it will take some getting used to feeling like I'm driving with my *** on the ground.. haha.. anyway, I'm happy with it so far. Here's a pic of what the new baby looks like. A 2004 Dodge Stratus. Now all I need is a cute ym to go cruisin' wit! Hehe. :D j/k

Woke up waaaayyyyy too early this morning, but I have to admit it was a cute way to wake up. One of my cats likes to sleep near my head beside my pillow. I woke up before dawn to a noise that sounded like: scrabblescrabblescrabble THUMP!
Then my cat jumped on the bed looking embarrassed and promptly began washing himself. It took me a minute (I was still half-asleep), and then I said, "Frobisher! Did you fall off the BED?!"
I think he was sleeping too close to the edge and rolled over in his sleep. ROFL!!! :D
This is the second or third time he's done this, and the expression on his face was absolutely priceless. Couldn't sleep after that, I just kept giggling. Fortunately my cat doesn't hold a grudge. :p

*shame on me* whiterose, good question!!!! i believe that our culture is conditioned to be desensitized to pain...we are supposed to find it funny when someone get hit by a fallen object or by someone else w/ an object...when i first came to the USA, i was not used to the idea of being humored by someone else's getting hurt or pained...i didn't understand the humor in someone else getting clobbered by a hammer or getting beat up in some way...so since we're so desensitized to pain via the media, we would naturally find it funny when our pets get hurt in similar ways humorized in the media...
CabinFever 02-21-2005, 01:46 PM Hmm, I see it differently. To me it's only funny if the person or animal isn't actually hurt. For example if something happens to someone, I wouldn't find it funny until the person gets up, dusts themselves off and grins. Then, I'd burst out laughing. I think part of what makes it funny is the release of tension when you think something bad has happened and then it turns out fine. For example, when I was a kid, I didn't do up the girth (thing that holds the saddle on a horse) tight enough on my pony during a trail ride. Well, wha d ya know all of a sudden I'm riding upside down, screaming my head off. As soon as we got the pony stopped and I was clear of horse hooves, we all thought it was hilarious!
Oh, the pet stories also remind me of my dog who's not too bright either. I used to live in a second story suite in an old house. I had huge deck that was above the garage. This deck however, did not have a railing. My big dog slept outside on this deck, and one morning I got up and no dog. The gate at the top of the stairs was closed so I couldn't figure out where he was. I looked down and saw a huge depression in the flower bed about 15 feet below the area where he usually sleeps. He must have rolled over in his sleep and rolled right off the deck. I freaked out and imagined the worst, and called frantically for him. Well, he comes running up to me like he's had a great adventure! It was definately not a funny thing though, until I knew that he was not hurt at all. Thank goodness for the big thick flowerbed! Oh, and that day, I built a railing!
nightingale 02-21-2005, 02:23 PM cabinfever, i'm glad that u r compassionate enuff or that the media hasn't desensitized u to the point of being numb or callous to pain & suffering in ppl as well as animals being struck or hurt/pain by objects or pure brute forces...in many of the media programs such as cartoons and other funny films, there are often very blunt objects such as hammers or chairs or what have u thrown...if one is struck by one of those and if it were in the cartoon, sure...no actual damage would be done...even if it were in movies, the effect of being stuck by one of those objects are often minimized...one does not see blood when the characters in the movies are struck by those objects...in the movie home alone, such a cute movie as esteemed & lauded by many, is one of those examples i was referring to...

last1standing 02-25-2005, 12:16 AM Its closing in on one year since my father died, and while I’ve dealt for the most part with my grief over his passing, I’ve also known that the thaw of the coming Spring would bring a touch of it back.
My dad had a life-long love affair with baseball; he was a consummate student of the game and he used it to pass on many philosophical lessons and truths to me. My first exposure to the concepts of personal sacrifice for the greater good (bunting), personal integrity (a win is worth nothing if you cheated to achieve it), personal commitment to excellence (owing your best effort every time to your yourself as well as your teammates), and how to deal with the fact that sometimes your opponent was simply better today (losing with dignity and without excuses) were all presented as object lessons as Dad taught me the “right way” to play the game. Even decades later, after a series of strokes had robbed him of his ability to walk or speak, watching my father use an alphabet board to slowly spell out his thoughts on baseball’s timelessness…how he loved the fact that sixty feet - six inches, three strikes, nine innings, and ninety feet between bases were still perfect after all these years…solidified for me the simple truth that there really are a few things in life that just can’t be altered without messing them up.
Sometimes, the emotional stress that we ourselves feel when something bad happens in our lives blinds us to the fact that others around us might feel pain at our misfortune as well. Over the last decade, I grew to understand from things that he said that my father probably felt more sorrow over the injury that cost me my career in baseball than I did. One of the last times I saw him really smile was when I told him a few months before he died that I was thinking about trying to pitch again for a local men’s rec-league team. I half-expected him to spell out for me that I was crazy…after all, the very notion of a 44 year old man with a with a full plate of responsibilities (two kids, mortgage, a business to run, etc.) trying to shake off 21 years worth of rust and play a young man’s game again made little enough sense on its face, but when that man already has one zipper on the elbow of his throwing arm, such dreams border on ludicrous. Instead, my father slowly stretched the fingers of his right hand out straight, leaned over in his wheelchair and made a feeble slashing motion just below his knees…coaching me one more time to keep the ball down.
I told my father several times during his final hospital stay that he needed to "hang in there" and get well so that I could take him to watch some of my games, although I knew that he had no realistic chance of ever recovering to any extent that would make such an outing possible. And I think he knew that as well, because on a cold evening last April my dad found a way around that problem…he bought season tickets; skybox level.
So, one Saturday afternoon this coming June I'm going to keep my word and step onto the mound of a Chattanooga area park & rec baseball diamond. But before throwing my first pitch, I’ll pause for a moment to tip my cap and smile at a thoughtful, wise, compassionate fan who was always there for me whenever I needed him, but one that no one else will be able to see…a guy watching from the upper deck.
So long for now, Dad. Thanks again for all the things you taught me and all the things you did for me over the years. I love you more than I could have ever shown…and I hope that this winter has been easier on you than some of your recent ones. Spring is almost here though, and in a couple of months you and I will find out together whether or not the batters have yet found a way to catch up with the old "number 1”.

Chatterbox 02-27-2005, 03:48 PM I can't stop laughing!
Can you honestly tell me that no cats were harmed in the making of this picture???? (I'm talking psychological damage!!!) Which makes me laugh even more because I wonder what physical damage the cat inflicted on the person that squeezed them into that .... (OH NO, OH NO, SOMEBODY STOP ME ....) cat suit.
CabinFever 02-28-2005, 09:15 PM OMG - I heard the story behind that picture - don't know if I can tell it properly tho. From what I can remember, the owner had just moved to a new town and she had an accent. She asked the groomers for a "line" cut (apparently this is a trim on the tummy?). Anyhow, they thought she said "lion" cut. :o
At least that is they story...who knows if it's true or not. But you can just imagine what that cat is thinking! Poor guy!

Chatterbox 03-02-2005, 05:55 PM I think Attention Deficit Disorder is a mislabeling ... I have the symptoms of what they call ADD, but I don't have a deficit of attention, I have a surplus of attention --- ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING GETS MY ATTENTION!!!! Another manifistation of Attention Deficit Disorder is completely the opposite: those of us with ADD can sometimes be hyper-attentive, i.e., getting so involved in a project that we forget other important things like sleeping, eating, feeding the kids, or walking the dog. So I vote we change the name to Attention Surplus Syndrome - A.S.S.

RobsGirl 04-27-2005, 01:06 PM Stupid people really shouldn't commit crimes.
Another case crossed my desk today of some moron trying to rob a store and running into the locked door, knocking himself out and getting arrested. I swear, every stupid criminal comes to North Dakota to commit a crime. . .

I miss Alf too! :) Gordon came here from outer space, cause there ain't no one like him in the Melmackian race.... or something like that. ;)
Dan_Shues 04-27-2005, 04:21 PM I think Alf, the character, still shows up on TV Land...think he has like a talk show or something...
We shall not mention what Max Wright has been up to in the past handful of years.
RobsGirl 04-27-2005, 04:26 PM um, why? what's he been up to??
(totally un-alfinated. . .)

Dan_Shues 04-27-2005, 06:46 PM Let's just say good ole Max was snapped in a series of photographs smoking some drugs with his male lover and then, proceeded to make an amatuer tape...
The photographs were printed in some dirt sheet, and spread on the internet.
RobsGirl 04-27-2005, 07:09 PM Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. . . :D
