most favorite type of musicgreeneyedgirl 11-19-2004, 03:51 PM ok, what's your top favorite type of music. not to say that you don't like other kinds because lord knows i like many different types....but what would you listen to if you were stranded on a desert island? DarkestHour5 11-19-2004, 03:55 PM rap and some types of rock...i mostly listen to Tupac bout all i listen to..tho i do listen to smasking pumpkins nine inch nails and such tho you already know this tracy :p...to answer your question TUPAC!!! so i guess rap :) Patricia 11-20-2004, 02:57 AM I voted for "Other" since world music is my favorite. yEEhaWgurl 11-20-2004, 03:13 PM I chose classical. Yep! If I'm stranded on an island and had only one type of music to listen to I may go COOCOO! But I can always add my own words and flavor to classical tunes! Depending on my mood! Ya know kick it up a bit with the music that is inside me waiting to burst forth! LOL I hope I never have to choose! :D MrsJonesolet 11-21-2004, 01:05 AM I listen to metal most  but I love all music...the best band that ever was is Pink Floyd IMO :) My daughter has a shirt that says *if the musics to loud then your to old* I'm not there yet :D lapafrax 11-21-2004, 11:00 AM I like most forms of music really, so I don't have a favourite per se. This ranges from rap/hip hop to industrial to classical to house and to most things. :) The only music genre I don't like is pop music. BellaLove 11-22-2004, 01:23 PM It's hard to choose only one.....classical is the root of everything, in the purest form & most beautiful. I happen to love Spanish music as well....its amazing! I just love everything!! R&B, Classical, Spanish, Country....you name it! My sistah Patricia knows my taste very well! :-) RockStar146 11-07-2005, 12:22 PM ok, what's your top favorite type of music. not to say that you don't like other kinds because lord knows i like many different types....but what would you listen to if you were stranded on a desert island? OK, what I'm trying to say is well wait.. I'm gonna list 5 bands and I want you (and others) to tell me what genre you think they are, k? Simple Plan Green Day Sum41 Yellowcard Black Eyed Peas By the way these are fairly uh...recent bands like not from the 80's... TALLBLONDECUTE 11-07-2005, 12:39 PM :D Hey what happen to a "Latin" option? Nowadays Latin music is so popular that it deserves a space on its own besides other! jajajaja I love all kind of music (sorry no rap here) but to dance I LOVE the Latin beat, it is lots of fun.... But of course under Latin music there are so many other sub-options such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Flamenco, Baladas, Rumbas, Reggeton, Bachatas, Norteņas, Rancheras, Mariachis, Tango, Paso dobles... Gosh here I am thinking which other there are and I can not come up with more styles, but then most of you would not know what I am talking about!!! jajajajajaja lencarol 11-07-2005, 08:02 PM Whatever Josh Groban sings--popera? :) shakespeare 11-07-2005, 11:44 PM I enjoy listening to Industrial/Darkwave/Gothic and 80's music, i don't know if there are any Industrial fans here. Here are some of the bands i love to listen to. Laibach Diary of Dreams VNV Nation Project Pitchfork Blutengel Apoptygma Berzerk Wumpscut Leaether Strip Bauhaus Skinny Puppy Front Line Assembly Judas Priest/Halford Motorhead Sex Pistols Crass catlover 11-08-2005, 07:37 AM Simple Plan pop-punk Green Day neopunk Sum41 poppunk Yellowcard emo lite Black Eyed Peas pop funk fos4snt 11-08-2005, 08:25 AM OoOOooo I definitely like Bauhaus. :D Alternative Rock here, for sure. Within that category I think fits all the subcategories of things like Indie, Emo, Grunge and a buncha others... but, that's just how I feel about it. My list of music I likely couldn't live without on a deserted island: Dismemberment Plan Thursday The Pretenders Temple of the Dog Smashing Pumpkins (ADORE ;) ) My Bloody Valentine A mixed CD with singers & standards from the 30's-50's (Mare's eat oats and doe's eat oats and little lambs eat ivy... a kid will eat ivy, too, wouldn't you? LOL) Incubus Linkin Park and of course... I'd go insane without some Creedence Clearwater Revival and Jimmy Buffet. ~phos tinydancer 11-08-2005, 08:48 AM If I had to choose only one type of music.............I'd go nuts! I admire musical artists so much. I don't care what it is classified as. I will admit though, country music will get on my nerves after a while. Blessings, Tinydancer fos4snt 11-08-2005, 02:22 PM I will admit though, country music will get on my nerves after a while. Only after a while? OH how much bigger a woman you are than I!!! I can stand about 30 seconds and I am whining about how I'm going to go shoot myself in my ex's stolen pickup. ROFLAO. BLUEGRASS I love, though. MmmMmmm... just NOT country. ~phos Bob's babydoll 11-08-2005, 03:22 PM I enjoy all kinds of music, but currently I would say that the Celtic & New Age genres are my favorite. I have a passion for artists/bands such as Loreena Mckennitt, Connie Dover, Clannad, Secret Garden, Enigma, Delirium, The Medeavel Baebes and Schiller, to name a few. TxCaramel 11-08-2005, 06:55 PM like hip hop and r&b. but i picked r&b listen to it the most. ms683 11-09-2005, 10:52 AM Heavy metal for me. Just the sound of those crunches rocks! LADave 11-09-2005, 02:39 PM I picked classical, but I listen to lots of rock n roll too. It depends on what I'm doing and what kind of mood I'm in. If I'm reading or studying, or later at night, I'm apt to play classical. Definitely rock when I'm driving or doing stuff like cleaning. I was just thinking this morning that I don't have a clue as to what's going on in music now. I haven't listened to much that's newer than U2 or R.E.M., and I know that those bands are starting to get fairly close to Beethoven or Mozart in terms of not being cutting-edge anymore. Classical music, classic rock, yada yada yada. :) Of course none of the choices listed in the poll match my current professional interests in music. I'm trying to line up investors for L.A.'s (and the world's, as far as I know), "all accordion, all the time" radio station! Bodhi Tree 11-09-2005, 02:52 PM other, deffinitely other. I don't know what the hell I listen to and I listen to music ALL THE TIME. I must have more cd-s than a record store. I can listen to anything from classic to jazz to folk, rap, rock, experimental.... I blast Zappa when I clean up the house, Romanian folk is great when I'm in a hurry, Goran Bregovic when I'm angry, Thelonious Monk or Keith Jarret not bad at night, a Francis Poulanc or Bach cantates when I'm working, and I regularly need my dose of flamenco and fado. waterfall 11-11-2005, 08:31 PM I have a passion for artists/bands such as Loreena Mckennitt, Connie Dover, Clannad, Secret Garden, Enigma, Delirium, The Medeavel Baebes and Schiller, to name a few. I love a lot of that stuff as well...the Medieval Babes are great, saw them twice!! But my absolute favorites are: The Verve The Stone Roses G. Love & Special Sauce any kind of acoustic, slidey, delta blues. oh and I was a deadhead back in the day, about 40 shows, which is mild by deadhead standards, lol! I've been introduced to a lot more British indie/alt. lately.....ahem......and I really love it, being a Roses fan and all. Rob 11-12-2005, 09:32 AM The Verve The Stone Roses G. Love & Special Sauce any kind of acoustic, slidey, delta blues. Same as her... lol.... in fact, she got into The Verve DIRECTLY from me, before we met! haha. I LOVE acoustic blues/folk at the moment, particularly Bob Dylan. One of my favourite artists is Nick Drake, loved his stuff for a few years now, it's brilliant stuff. I've been an indie kid for a long time so most of my cd's are of that type of music, and english bands too. Got into a bit more funky stuff because of the mrs though. She's got great taste!!!!!!!!!!!! Bob's babydoll 11-12-2005, 07:21 PM I love a lot of that stuff as well...the Medieval Babes are great, saw them twice!! They must have put on quite an awesome show! Their harmonies are so beautiful. :) ChiNotShy 11-13-2005, 04:01 PM The Jazz musician and bandleader Duke Ellington was once asked his opinion about other types of music. "Actually," he answered, "there are only two types of music. Good and bad." I concur. My personals tastes cover the entire spectrum of musical styles. From rock to jazz, country to electronica, r & b to classical, blues to salsa and all the sub-genres in between. However, for sheer expansiveness, modernity and technical brilliancy, modern Jazz is my favorite. Pop music, including different morphs of rock 'n' roll, is cool but sometimes lacks seriousness. Classical music is sufficiently artistic and musically dense but fails to speak for our time. Rap is intriguing but it frequently degenerates into trivialities. Jazz alone, in my opinion, is contemporary high art. vivalagourami 11-13-2005, 04:15 PM LOL Fos! You are too funny, I swear. Contemparary country music (i.e. what's on the radio last couple years) has to be the worst, most poorly manufactured, garbage that has ever existed in the history of music. Every year driving to Kentucky for the Derby, my man and I turn on country music radio thru West Virginia. From Home wrecker, to Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy, to Alcohol (for the best times you'll never remember) to Drugs or Jesus, to Where were you when the world stopped turning? {repeat 5 song playlist 5 thousand times on 3 different stations} there is no value in any of it in my opinion. I actually believe, when we finally pull into to Louisville, that I'm dumber...really, for having listened to 3-4 hours of country radio. It thought it didn't get much more inane and childish than say, Barenaked Ladies...but it does....OHH it does! In Your Eyes 11-13-2005, 05:15 PM I have love for some punk and 80s.... but my favorite is HOUSE and some trance. Please do not call it dance or even worse techno lol. butterfly84 11-13-2005, 09:23 PM Ok, guess I'm way in the minority here. I LOVE country music! I can listen to it constantly and be in heaven. Not that I don't like other forms of music (except rap...lol), but country is awesome! And so versatile. It can go from hysterical, to thoughtful, to heartbreaking, to get-up-and-dance-your-pants-off. Oh, and to the person above? The song "Drugs or Jesus" is, to me, a VERY profound song. And, a lot of country songs have a strong Christian background (not ALL, some), and that's really important to me in my music. ~*sarah*~ vivalagourami 11-14-2005, 08:28 AM Oh, and to the person above? The song "Drugs or Jesus" is, to me, a VERY profound song. ~*sarah*~ REALLY?!? As much distaste as I have for small town rural America, I think this song unfairly simplifies issues that on their face, aren't very complicated in the first place. While I guess its true that we're all looking for love and meaning in our lives...its not very poetic, nor clever. I don't want you to think I don't like country music. Because I do. I've Emmylou like 5 times. And I like people like Jimmy Dale Gilmore, and Son Volt. And the Highwaymen of course. I also like acts like Gillian Welch a lot, Alison Kraus and Union Station. I can tolerate the Bakersfield acts. But there's a ton of country music that I love...just so ya know. Just none of them are Tim Mc Graw and Brad Paisley and that Here for the Party lady. I forget her name. butterfly84 11-14-2005, 07:49 PM Hmm...well I'm going to guess we grew up in way different times then. I don't know half the bands you named although I do LOVE Alison Kraus and Union Station. Guess it comes down to what you grew up with. :D ~*sarah*~ kindanice 11-15-2005, 05:15 AM I likes a little of most everything. Jazz, Rock, Bluegrass, Depends on what mood I'm in. But I REALLY likes me some hip hop, r&b and :o sometimes...NASTY (mmm)rap...hehe. Way less often, country. But on a rowdy night, I will take some bar room brawlin' country. Classical...naw...not too much. I guess I like a bit of almost everything. snowkyst 11-24-2005, 07:01 AM Seeing as how I promote mostly metal and hardcore  , I would say those are my favorites... HateBreed, 100 Demons, Terror, Bury your Dead, Blacklisted, Subzero... But on the lighter side I also love Mozart... the best thing about music.......theres always something for every mood... :D Lynn 11-24-2005, 09:25 AM I chose Rock n Roll but I should've said 'other' because I like just about all genre's. Depends on my mood. I like soft instrumentals to hardcore rock... soundtracks, like Braveheart or LoTR.. Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban... The only country I'll even listen to for longer than a note or two is the 'old' stuff from my parents time. And then I'm good for it for the next year. But I guess I do listen to more rock than anything else. I love rock n roll put another dime in the jukebox baby.... :p Chaos 12-20-2005, 02:44 PM :( you left out jazz in your poll. so i just chose classical, my second favorite. honestly you have to be able to feel the music, thats why i will always love jazz :P talking pie 12-31-2005, 12:20 AM I like the 80's/90's alternative before it got all pseudo-emoish (My Chemical Romance, etc.). Patricia 12-31-2005, 07:24 PM But of course under Latin music there are so many other sub-options such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Flamenco, Baladas, Rumbas, Reggeton, Bachatas, Norteņas, Rancheras, Mariachis, Tango, Paso dobles... Rolling Stones: 44 years and still touring, all the band members are 60+ and no better song than Wild Horses. If I had to choose one (which is nearly impossible for me) I would choose other and, like patricia, say world music. Crysania 02-16-2006, 03:49 PM My favourite type of music is Irish traditional. If it were the only thing I could listen to for the rest of my life I'd be just fine. For the past 2+ years it's been almost all I've listened to except for the occasional classical piece (and usually that is in the classes I've taught). ~Crysania deryl d 02-23-2006, 02:34 PM sex pistols, dead kennedys, bad religion.crass, black flag, circle jerks, misfits, discharge, exploited, gang of four, gbh,gg allin, iggy pop,mc5,the clash, lower class brats,pennywise...old school punk..all political kinkyBoy19 02-23-2006, 03:36 PM Radiohead, the cure, the sex pistols, Nick Cave and the bad seeds,Nick drake, leonard cohen, lou reed,Jimi hendrix, John coltraine,Oscar peterson, Billie holiday, Charlie Mingus, Thelonious monk, the jesus and mary chain, the sisters of mercy. to name but a few.
