o.k. I am just really pissed off right now and need to vent.. As some you may already know I am 39 and about a month ago started dating a 25 year old. We get along great he has a wonderful job, treats me like a princess and is drop dead gorgeous to boot. Well we were out having dinner last night and happend to run into my ex-husband. He was very cordial to my guy and we chatted briefly. This morning my ex calls raising helll! he said that I was humiliating myself and him by dating someone that young.. He is a very well known business man here in town.. Alright here is were I get pissed. Six months after we divorced he married a 28 year old woman. He is 44. So it's okay for him to marry someone 16 years younger but i cannot be seen on a date with a man 14 years younger than myself.. What is that horse*@#*? Have any of you run into this? It's so stupid that people freak out if the woman is noticeably older than the man, but it's just fine if the man is older. Blah!! Oh well i've vented now thanks for listening. Becca

On the YW/OM side of the board here, they'll tell ya that people don't think it's 'fine' the other way either.

People just like to criticise others. Your ex probably felt... I don't know, not threatened exactly, but you know. He didn't like seeing you with a young handsome stud. Even though he's moved on, he probably doesn't want to see that you have too.

There is a double-standard, but I've chosen to live in denial... ignoring it completely. Anyone who subscribes to that way of thinking is antiquated and close-minded, ESPECIALLY when it's a WOMAN who thinks that way (actually, I think women who think that way are brainwashed and stupid and allow themselves to feel like second-class citizens, so in my books, they are completely useless human beings, even worse than the men who think that way).

Sounds to me like his male pride may have been wounded by seeing his ex-wife with a younger man. :)

Don't hold back, PinkCat... tell us what you really think... :p

none of his business who you date is it?

I would be less upset about the double standard than the fact that he seems to think he has a right to tell you what you should or shouldn't do.

What an @SS.

Please tell me that you don't give a rat's *** what he thinks. Why WOULD you?

If it were me, I'd have laughed my butt off until he hung up.
