Lady Spinster

This is somewhat of a PSA to people who want to meet people on the internet but really are a bit awkward about it.
Pretend the internet is some vast party and your invited. There are all sorts of people there, some you'll like, some who'll like you, and others who you will never like or like you etc. If you were to go up to someone at one of these vast parties would you say things like "So...are you horny?" Out of the blue?
I don't think so. Unless you were looking to get slapped in the face or whatever.
In fact any impertant quiz sure to make the other person feel like they've been put on the spot.
Then how, you may wonder, do I get to know the other person?
You give a little and get a little. Say something general like, how are you, move on to your own likes/dislikes, just like you would at a party.
"Hi, my name is Lady Spinster, how are you today?
I just finished reading another JD Robb book, "Truth in Death", do you like mysteries?"
Because you offered something about yourself first, the other person doesn't feel put on the spot, they feel like they are part of an exchange.
Altho I just used a "Yes/No" question, try to use open ended questions for the most conversation value.
"I'm looking forward to seeing the new Blade movie, what kind of movies do you like?"
This give and take let's both people out of the spotlight and allows both people to learn about each other instead of just one asking a question and the other person answering then going "And you?"
Lastly, try to answer in sentences longer than three words to incite maxium intrest. If a person feels like they are pulling teeth instead of being part of a conversation they might be reluctant to talk to you again.
