Most famous people I wouldn't recognize if they bit me in the *****. No, I don't think I've met any.
Hmmm . . . I used to do the hair of some local news reporters, but I don't think that counts

Meena03 12-11-2004, 04:20 PM WOW! Mer you met Jennifer?
This may sound really sad but I'd love to meet her one day. Where did you used to work, actaully I don't expect you to answer that but what sort of industry did you work in while you met those two?
MerAlove23 12-11-2004, 04:34 PM LOL meena I worked in the computer industry.. was in retail so.... She was buying a computer lol.... Ben is from Boston....

MerAlove23 12-11-2004, 05:46 PM Now thats cool Nessa... i wish I could just meet marlon brando!!
ravenglow 12-11-2004, 07:01 PM Well, Ive met lots of somewhat famous people because my father is an actor/writer/director and has been since I was about 10. We are italian-american and dad's writing/acting/directing interests have always sort of revolved around that heritage in a lot of ways.
Dad wrote for shows like Crime Story, WiseGuy etc. and left Brooklyn in about 1987 for Los Angeles right about that time. He still lives there and published a novel last year. (its a great book...search The Long Count on Amazon or Barnes&Noble if u like! end of shameless plug).
Family friends include Dan Lauria (the dad from the wonder years), Anthony Dennison (Ray Luca from Crime Story), Frankie Renzulli(executive writer-Sopranos) is dad's best friend. I was there about 5 years ago and Frankie came over with food and to hang out.
It sounds odd to tell it or see it typed out, but these are ordinary guys with families and regular personalities for the most part!
Ive met a lot of somewhat famous people working with my Dad too, like Michael Mann, Judd Hirsh, Suzanne Vega(beyotch!), Leah Remini...just lots and lots but this was years ago when he let me be Propmaster for a few plays he did back then. I got paid too! hehe..
He's still doing a lot with plays/screenplays and actually just finished a short film which i havent heard alot about. He runs his own theater called Working Stage in Cali.
Edit---OH the character in the book named Raster Glow was based on me :-) and thats where I got the second half of my screename.
MerAlove23 12-11-2004, 07:23 PM Thats so cool Raven!!! now I wish I was you.. I've always wanted to see a New York Play!!!
ravenglow 12-11-2004, 08:39 PM Mera, the biggest play I worked on with him was in L.A. but it was set in Brooklyn. I'll never forget, every damn day I had to go to the store and buy an Entemann's coffee cake for one scene. What a waste, no one actually ATE the thing, I'd throw it away at the end of every run! It was really fun times though!!
MerAlove23 12-11-2004, 08:42 PM Raven can I move in with you?
ravenglow 12-11-2004, 08:52 PM Here? Oh its boring here, but we could go hang out at Dad's place in Cali for a week or two. He wont mind!! hahaha
MerAlove23 12-11-2004, 08:55 PM Ok I'm there... I hope your dad likes babies :)
ravenglow 12-11-2004, 09:16 PM Ive seen that baby, lets make him a star!!! :D
MerAlove23 12-11-2004, 09:18 PM heheh I would love to THE NEXT GERBER BABY!!
BellaLove 12-13-2004, 11:02 AM I've met Jeff Bridges.......only because he lives here in Santa Barbara & his daughter works with me. :-)
I haven't actually met, but I see Michael Jordan every summer because he comes to S.B. during Fiesta week and bartends at this one bar.....he is so handsome!
I have met Bo Derek, she lives her as well.........and she happens to be dating John Corbett (Greek Wedding guy, and Sex and the City b-friend)......whom I have seen around town, but not met yet.
One time I was downtown shopping and Heather Locklear walked right by me, I didn't even realize it until 5 minutes later. Its wierd when you see celebrities, they look just like us!!
emmiegirl 12-13-2004, 07:32 PM I've met Hillary Clinton, Madeline Albright, Barney Frank, Oprah, Alyssa Milano, Barbara Walters, Flea (from Red Hot Chili Peppers), Minilli Vinilli (LOL), Dom Delawise, Steve Martin, Henry Winkler. I think that's it. Oh, I ate breakfast next to Lindsay Davenport and her family once. And I've been in the same restaurants with famous people, but I try to ignore them as best as I can.
Jody<3 12-14-2004, 03:04 PM Ack! I feel so dejected! lol
Lets see..I SAW Bo Jackson (the sports guy) once, and he picked up my daughter and carried her around for a while (she was like 5 at the time).
I have met a few music people...like Jacob Dylan (Bob Dylans son and singe for a band called the Wallflowers), ummm..the bands Collective Soul and Third-Eye Blind.
I have met a few famous people in drag racing just by, well, racing. One time when we went to a bigger meet and there were quite a more well-known racers, someone gave my daughter a permanent magic marker, and she went around and let everyone sign her DRESS! OMG! From then on I have tried to keep a notepad in my purse! ;)
When my son was in New York last year to sing....he saw Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, and also Paris Hilton (yeah...he was supposed to be there in New York to perform, but I think he spent most of his time hanging out in Times Square and then standing outside the MTV studios).
1love 12-14-2004, 04:18 PM OH my brush with fame, let me see...
The only semi-famous person I have met is Miguel Cairo, Cardinal baseball player and that's because he was sitting in front of me at a Rams football game...
I worked with a girl who dated Weird Al Yankovich and was very good friends with the Monkees....LMAO, does that count???
Oh and don't let me forget my good friend Viv, who went to Cali, was hanging out in a bar and who was there, none other than the infamous Gary Bucy... She didn't even know him. She went to the bathroom and his girlfriend started talking to her and mentioned she was with her bf, Gary Bucy and Viv said "who is Gary Bucy?"
Haha.... ya gotta love that! :p
emmiegirl 12-15-2004, 01:08 PM oops, I forgot Paul Walker.
BellaLove 12-15-2004, 01:19 PM Well, I haven't met.....but would absolutley DIE if I did get to meet Sarah Jessica Parker or Andy Garcia or Al Pacino......
I see the bald guy from NYPD Blues around town all the time, he must live here......I don't even know his name, but he's the main guy from the show.
Kare Bear 12-15-2004, 01:58 PM I met Kirk Franklin (gospel / soul singer) and Jon Drummond (Olympic track star) a few weeks ago. They're tight friends and my best friend is a realtor and is selling Jon and his wife a house. It was cool-- and yeah, they're just normal people, too. We were at the mall and went to a movie, and they were in there, too... The girls behind the concession stand were swooning -- and asking for autographs... It was kinda cute!

Have you seen that great movie, "Two Can Play that Game". ? Its' with Vivica Fox. Well her man in the movie is just about the finest black man ever!! I would love to meet him!!
BellaLove 12-17-2004, 01:36 PM OH ya!!! He is a cutie pa-tootie!!!! I loved him in that movie.......he was in a few others as well.
I can't say I've met many famous people in my life. All that I can recall is seeing 2 local newscasters in one of the shopping malls near here.
First was a few years ago. I walked by him in the mall then thought "did I just see....?" And when I turned around I couldn't tell. But I'm pretty sure it was the guy I was thinking about.
Second time was about a week ago. Another newscaster who was ringing the bell for the salvation army. He was also opening doors for people as they entered the mall. I thought that was really nice of him to do that.
That's about it. You just don't see many celebs in small towns in New York. :-)
charo 12-19-2004, 09:53 AM When I lived in NY in the caveman days LOL I met Steve McQueen, Natalie Wood and several others . Richard Pryor was a friend of my husbands and came to our place off and on. He wasnt a big star then, and in fact was performing for free at a comedy club just to get recognized.
Very funny guy but MUCH into drugs even then. Some gossip for thoes who remember Debbie Reynolds. She used to come into Pittsburgh and had a thing for woman..... paid several lesbians I knew to spend the week end with her. Also another old timer Bobby Vinton (singer) used to frequent the gay bar in Pittsburgh, and went with a male beautician friend of mine for a while.
BellaLove 12-20-2004, 06:32 PM I just remembered, when I was in high school, my Algebra teacher was married to Tom Wopat's brother....Tom Wopat was Bo from 'The Dukes of Hazzard' show. :-)
greeneyedgirl 12-21-2004, 02:23 PM i saw pauly shore in a bar in oklahoma city. he was rubbing his nose alot....
nobody was impressed, he and his entourage of two left after about 10 minutes.
this was right after "in the army now" ?
whoop dee doo, lol
lencarol 12-22-2004, 07:29 AM Have met the now deceased Marty Robbins (friend of a relative), Mickey Rooney, Betty White, main guy in Welcome Back Kotter (?), OJ Simpson!--he actually was very nice, sweet guy--way before his recent troubles. Also just met Salman Rushdie (sp?) at a lecture.
Who would I like to meet? Josh Groban!

ME TO!!! He's such a cutie pie!!
BellaLove 12-22-2004, 11:20 AM Josh Groban has an amazing voice! My mom loooooooves him. :-)
I would love to meet Elvis Crespo....among MANY others!!
yellowrose 12-26-2004, 08:18 PM I knew Stevie Ray Vaughn before he died. He was a great guy and very funny in a low key dry humor sort of way. We would sit and make up "jingles".
I also used to know BJ Thomas (Raindrops keep falling on my head). He was really philosphical and deep thinker. I really liked him. He is TALL too. But very nice.
I slow danced with Eddie Rabbit.. this was back in the '80's. He was "watching" a live band play as he was looking for new music or band members... I don't remember.
Hmmm a few others but you all are probably too young to know who they are... :D
ravenglow 12-26-2004, 08:27 PM YR, your post reminded me that I know Chipkin of Hersh and Chipkin. Who's that you ask? They wrote the dr. demented favorite tune DISCO TOILET!!
haha...he'd probably be very flattered that I referred to him as a Famous Person ;-)
TvsTim 12-27-2004, 03:49 PM Hmm, let's see. I met Mr. T back when meeting Mr. T was a pretty big deal. I was in first grade, and he came to our school for an assembly. He talked to us about staying in school and off drugs and all that, and then some of us got to go up and ask him questions. I asked him why he wore mismatched socks, and he laughed and said something about not having time to do his laundry.
What's funny about this story is what almost happened: the local TV news teams were there for this, and my class was being filmed while he answered our questions. Apparently, I was supposed to be on TV while I asked my question (my teacher even took me aside the day before and told me to make sure that I looked my best, because I was probably going to be on television), but a girl in my class cut in front of me while we were in line (we always lined up according to height, and back then I was pretty short) and she ended up on TV and even got to go up on stage and give him a hug. I never did like that girl.
Beyond that, I haven't had too many celebrity encounters. I went to high school with one of the kids from "Mighty Ducks" movies, and I was in a Radio/TV class with a girl who was dating Jason Weaver (one of the kids from that "Thea" TV show), but that's about it.
bhberrie 12-28-2004, 12:24 PM I would love to meet Jack Johnson, he is my idol.
BellaLove 12-29-2004, 10:54 AM Jack Johnson is the singer guy from Hawaii right?! Ya, he is a local Santa Barbarian here...he is married to a high school teacher at my old high school- Dos Pueblos High. But I believe they are moving to Hawaii now.
wvdreamer 01-16-2005, 02:22 PM In 1999, the USS Bataan was in port in Israel. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were asked to perform a USO concert, and I got to see her briefly in passing across the hangar deck.
She was about 5'4", her hair was cropped bleached blonde (she looked better with her long natural black hair), had at least five tattoos, and looked very, very rough. If that was what the rock & roll lifestyle does to people, I do not want any part of it.
wvdreamer 01-16-2005, 02:27 PM I do not have very many run-ins with famous people. Usually they travel in their little circles, and we are out there in the real world.
In 1985, I was invited by some college friends to attend a concert by Mylon Lefevre, who was at that time one of the big names in contemporary gospel music. It would have been just another concert except that Mylon was actually trying to minister to his audience. He gave an altar call near the end of the show for anyone who needed prayer, and I got to talk with him backstage. He had an interesting testimony of how he used to tour with bands like Deep Purple and Ten Years After before he received Christ; from what I understand he does not perform music as much as he preaches across the country.
Mylon's website: http://www.mylon.org
tereska 01-18-2005, 02:47 AM Living in L.A. and New York has given me the chance to meet lots of famous people. I used to work for Jay-Z and Michael Stipe from REM in New York. I actually was in the REM "Leaving New York" video (on the cutting room floor, that is). I used to do crossword puzzles with Michael Stipe at a bar at 2:00 am.
Both Jeremy Piven (from Entourage) and Pauly Shore asked me out in the cheeziest ways. I've gone out drinking with Peter Sarsgaard. Ryan Gossling (from the Notebook) lives in my building. Lou Reed used to live across the street from me. My favorite celebrity encounter was when I grilled Francis Ford Coppola (after a little too much wine) about the true "meaning" of Apocalypse Now.
My husband used to work in entertainment so he's good friends with lots of famous people including Perry Ferrel from Jane's addiction, boxer Oscar de la Hoya, and novelist Dave Eggers. He's also very excited that he's recently befriended ex-Lakers' coach Phil Jackson ( I haven't met him yet though).
I shook Bill Clinton's hand (twice!). Crispin Glover goes to my gym (he's hilarious to watch on the treadmill) as does the equally bizarre Dennis Hopper. Oh, also, when I was 16, Billy Idol said I felt "firm." ....so gross, yet so awesome!!!
tereska 01-20-2005, 12:07 PM Hey Amina!! Things are going pretty good, how about you?
tereska 01-20-2005, 12:30 PM Right now I'm back in Cali. Did I tell you that I spend a fabulous week in Philly? I loooooove that city!!
BellaLove 01-20-2005, 12:47 PM Where in Cali Tereska???
Softiee19 01-20-2005, 05:39 PM Well when I was 14 I met Ricky Martin..... ALthough I am ashamed to admit it now!!!! :D

Amina has Noam Chomsky as a professor!!! She's the luckiest of all of us!!!
I partied with Rod Stewart in 1968....whoa...
Met Cat Stevens in 1971
and sat next to Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins in Santa Monica a few yrs ago....
But I do see people all the time where I live now. Paul Simon visits this town often as does Tom Cruise (he was in my local grocery store last year) and Jerry Springer actually lives here.
He was in line behind me at the movie theater recently. The biggest attraction in town??? When Pee Wee Herman comes home to visit his parents!!! Have seen him lots of times.
Monica Selles lives here too!
BellaLove 01-21-2005, 11:37 AM Softie!! I would love to meet Ricki Martin!! Viva Latin America! LOL He's such a doll.
Oh dear Mera!! Debbie Gibson?!! LOL That is just too funny.....but back then I would have died to meet the New Kids on the Block. So, I can't really talk. LOL
tereska 01-24-2005, 01:26 PM Hi Bella Love! Right now I'm shuttling between L.A. and San Francisco (my perfect situation). My friends, family and work are in S.F. but my man is in L.A...we're making it work.
Back to famous people we met. Just yesterday i was sitting around with friends talking about randon celebrity encounters we've had, and my husband had me in stitches! He was in L.A. at some really fancy hotel with friends drinking down about $300 worth of bloody marys, mimosas, and appetizers. When the waitress brought over the check, S. said, "just put it on my dad's room.
"Who's your dad?" she asked.
S. waived his hand in the air over to a table across the restaurant "hey, Andy!" It was Andy Rooney, the old crumudgeon on 60 minutes having a business lunch with CBS execs.
And Andy Rooney waived back.
The waitress put it the bill on his room, although I hope S. actually paid for the bill himself...even if it is Andy Rooney.
BellaLove 01-25-2005, 11:12 AM How funny! He totally pulled a Dumb and Dumber!!! LOL Poor Andy Rooney....
LOVE San Fran!!! My honey and I just spent the New Years there....it's always so much fun! So you must drive right through Santa Barbara when your going to see your man! How cool, have you ever spent time here??? Its so much fun!! It's a great date idea if you ever want to take him outa the L.A. scene. :-) The beaches are amazing....really romantic!
tereska 01-25-2005, 02:19 PM BellaLove,
Actually S. went to UCSB, but we only went there once together. It's beautiful. We had a crazy night out on State St., got pasta at Joe's cafe, and hung out at the beach. But I'd love to go back. I don't know why we don't go there all the time!
BellaLove 01-25-2005, 02:34 PM OMG, Joe's is the best! Or one of the best anyways. LOL
My honey and I have a great time on State St. almost every weekend.....we always walk down to the beach and walk all the way up to burn off all the food and drinks we consume.
That is really impressive he went to UCSB...it's a great school, I didn't go there but I did go to SBCC, (the city college downtown right on the beach).......
I can't wait to go to S.F. again soon!! This time of course I won't forget my luggage and have to drive all the way back from Monterey to S.F. just to retrieve it. LOL
Lovebear 01-25-2005, 09:28 PM I used to be a radio reporter, so I've interviewed some people whom you'd still see on C-Span: U.S. Senator Charles Grassley (R-Ia), U.S. Senator (I THINK he still is) Joe Biden (D-Delaware). Also on a number of occasions met former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad. I've also met the lady who played Ted's wife Georgette(?) on the Mary Tyler Moore Show.:)
NuGyrl 02-10-2005, 02:12 PM I've met a decent amount of famous people...mostly people in the entertainment business.
Naughty by Nature (rap group)
Backstreet Boys (boy band)
Malik Yuba (actor, New York Undercover)
P. Diddy
Ricky Martin (latin singer)
Raven Simone (when she was a kid)
-------------------------------------------------------
President Clinton
Ron Brown (Sec. of State under Clinton)
Jesse Jackson
Cornell West
Tony Perkins (weather man on Good Morning America)
Peter O'Neal (Black Panther)
I think that is all...I've met some authors, but they are not well known.
joelstrouble 02-10-2005, 02:47 PM I have a friend who are one of the best drummer in the world.
He is mot to known by everyone though cause his genre is Metal.
But he was rated as the third best drummer in the world by M-TV a few years ago...
As metal is my favorite music genre, I have a lot of friends that are so as well (from all over the world actually) and they are quite jealous of me being one of his best friend. :p
gypsy 02-26-2005, 03:27 PM I met Val Kilmer once. He came to talk about a movie he was in "The Salton Sea" and afterwards I spoke with him, and had my photo taken.
It was, actually, kind of ironic because when I was 15 I had such a crush on him. Which went away, so that by the time I was 18 and met him ... it didn't really matter much. But, I would have jumped at the chance when I was 15.
SummerBob 02-27-2005, 11:55 AM I met George Takai (Sulu on Star Trek) at a Start Trek convention in '92, and Tricia Yearwood at the 200th anniverssary of the Smithsonion in Wash D.C. in '96. Both were arranged photo-shoots for the public to meet the celebrities. I've never "bumped into" anyone famous.
