My two favorite animated ones are Rudolph (the newer version SUCKS, must be the old version) and The Year Without Santa Claus. LOVE that one.

But, I'm a REAL sucker for the Jimmy Stewart "It's a Wonderful Life."

And, of course.. I love the Peanuts Christmas movie, too. :D

edited because I stupidly spelled Stewart with a d at the end without thinking... durrrr....

I love Rudolph (my kids think it's great I can quote it!) and The Little Drummer Boy, which is so hard to find now.

As for movies, The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 2 were great! And didn't even ruin the whole believing in Santa for the kids. It's a Wonderful Life is a classic, and even tho it's not really a Christmas movie, Meet Me in St Louis with Judy Garland always seems to be on this time of year.

I'm with Dan. Christmas Vacation is a holiday MUST at my house. It's hilarious! "$hitter was full." haha!! "It's the gift that keeps on givin', Clark."

To this day we call my brother-in-law "Clark" because he SO over-does his outside decorating. We went by to see it last night and I asked him if he wasn't afraid that planes at DFW would get confused and try to land on top of his house... hehe....

I LOVE "It's a Wonderful Life". I probably watch it at least 2 or 3 times every Christmas season and have never failed to cry at the end when everyone rally's for George. I know...I'm a sap. lol.

Hey CoGal I am a sap too. I loved that movie and have it in my collection. Also loved the real "oldie", The Bishop's Wife, with Cary Grant. He was an angel come to earth to help a bishop having trouble making decisions with a new cathedral, and to help him get his "priorities" straight, i.e. to put his marriage first.

I love the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol with Reginald Owen as Scrooge. I just read the book by the way, something I do each year. Also, I really, really love SCROOGED too with Bill Murray. :D

I also totally LOVE A Muppet Family Christmas--that has to take the cake for my favorite Christmas movie. When my son was small even HE got tired of watching it before I did, I just love it.
Also, Emmit Otter's Jug Band Christmas is good.

My favorites are A Christmas Story.... just seen this 2 nights ago. I love this movie. .... 'You'll shoot yer eye out!'

And A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott. I love that version. Didn't much care for the Alistair Simms one though.

We just watched It's a Wonderful Life this weekend.

These 3 movies are kind of traditional in our home. It's as much a part of Christmas for us as our decorations.

I saw a made for TV Christmas movie quite a few years ago. About a woman who remarried, with a son. They went to Alaska for husband's job I think. There was some friction between stepdad and the son. Somehow she was left alone in the cabin, pregnant, had to deliver her own baby! Had gotten severely injured also. Was heartwarming as she went through many struggles in a very new and scary place (wilderness of Alaska in winter) by herself. In the end, the father and stepson finally come home (were they lost?). She got to witness that awesome phenomenon, the aurora borealis! If anyone recognizes this, knows the title or how to get this video, would be so appreciated!

Here are my favorites:

"Rudolph" (1964 animated version) - A classic.

"A Christmas Story" (1983) - Bob Clarke proved he could make family-friendly movies - he was known for the infamous Porky's series.

"The Santa Clause" (1994) - Tim Allen was superb as the reluctant replacement for Kris Kringle.

"It's A Wonderful Life" (1948) - no Christmas would be complete without this classic Frank Capra pitcure. Jimmy Stewart was incredible here.

"The Grinch" (1966 and 2000) - I am a Jim Carrey fan, so I must admit I liked his version of the Dr. Seuss tale as much as the classic animated version.

"National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1987) - My favorite of the Griswald family saga. Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid turned in some top-notch comic performances.

CHRISTMAS CHEESE - films which wrecked Christmas and other holidays:

"Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" (1964) - Pia Zadora was set up early for a career as the queen of bad movies. She was only eight years old at the time, but this dud rank among the all-time worst.

"Eight Crazy Nights" (2002) - Adam Sandler, a Jewish comic, will never be asked to do another holiday film. Potty-mouth humor and Hanukkah? No. There was something in this turkey to offend everyone, and thankfully no one played it during the holidays.

"Christmas With the Kranks" (2004) - I did not like this one either, even though I like Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Definately A Christmas Carol...of all the different versions, I still like Reg Owen's the best.

Thanks, Raven :) I was suffering massive brain fade and couldn't remember the name of this movie, but it's one of my favorites also.
