How do I post a picture?

Hi everyone. My first post. I 've been visiting here for awhile and finally got up the courage to post. I would really like to put my picture up so that every time I post something everyone will know who's posting it. I see that little img button. Do I copy and paste an image from my hard drive? And then press the img button? All that comes out on where I'm writing here is the text of what the image. Thank you.
