Dan Echo 01-03-2005, 11:45 PM Ladies,
I know that this will sound stupid, but ever since I have been a member of this site, I have been trying to get used to the OW abreviation for Older Women.
Yes, I know that its just an abreviation, but its also the word many people say when they feel pain. Being in a relationship with an OW, and after reading the posts that all of you fine ladies have written, perhaps the term be WOW (wonderful older women) instead of just OW. Having been with an older lady for over a year, WOW is something I say every time I see her or talk to her.
Also, the longer were together, the more WOW I find in her. The abreviation is just a silly hangup of mine, I know. Just thought I'd take the opportunity to say how WOW I think you ladies really are.

MerAlove23 01-04-2005, 05:32 AM What about older men? we always abbrieviate OM? :)
marcy 01-04-2005, 07:54 AM Hehe when I first came to the boards I recall there was a heated debate about the use of the abbrev ym. I remember that this was debated as to the offensiveness of the term.
The more things change, the more they stay the same... very comforting :)
MerAlove23 01-04-2005, 05:22 PM I agree with Amina..... Its older... My sister Is Older than me by 2 minutes.... its not saying your Old my husband isn't old... hes OLDER than me :)
Dan Echo 01-04-2005, 10:14 PM Nothing wrong with the word older. Its just that O-W spells "ow", thats all. I didn't think it was offensive; I just keep seeing the word, "ow", thats all. Like I said, it probably sounds stupid that I would even notice, but I did.
As to the word, "older", I have no problem with that. My lady is definitely older, and I don't mind one little bit:D

Dan Echo 01-04-2005, 10:27 PM Well, if its cool with you ladies, then its cool with me.

ROFL!!! I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it! :D
Great... now I'm gonna be seeing the word "ow" all the time. Thanks a lot, Dan! :p
velveteyes 01-04-2005, 11:23 PM Dan, you are not alone....I thought exactly the same as you regarding "ow" being like a pain sound as soon as I started coming here to Ageless.......maybe we should be "WW" for "wise women"...hehe
Velveteyes
ScarletHawke 01-05-2005, 01:01 AM Wouldn't work, I don't think, as some younger women are quite wise despite their age. And some older women are not. ;)
MerAlove23 01-05-2005, 06:51 AM I totally agree scarlett....The whole boards would say WW :) although I think their are more than some that are wise :)
Dan I never looked at it saying OW meaning ouch..... :)
MerAlove23 01-05-2005, 05:06 PM LOL Kelley!! After my day today I definatly need to meditate!! lol

I just choked on my water hahahaha
When I see W.W. I think of "Wicked Witch"
Maybe I shouldn't have borrowed Dorothy in the Land of Oz from the library for my kids for the whole Christmas holidays :D

Gag.
Funny, I hear people say "my old lady" and "my old man" for their parents, not their partners.
MerAlove23 01-05-2005, 05:48 PM I hear them for their partners.... I don't... but I've heard it before... I don't particularly like it

When I was a teenager, the guys would yell..."Ooooooooowwwww!" at a girl if they felt she was cute. (Mainly rocker types).
Well, in that case, then the term most definitely applies to my lady, and all of you ladies here:D .
So now, I get it! Its the rocker "ow", not the ouch "ow". Cool:cool:
Keep on rockin',

DC comics would say that WW is for Wonder Woman. Guess that applies to all ladies here as well, not to mention my own.

this is quite common around here. and i actually abhore it. to me it is one of the biggest ways to show disrespect, no matter who you are refering to.
but i think what dan's original post is about is so cute. he is such a thoughtfull guy that he is concerned about associating an owie with the abreviation. glad someone gave him another much more appropriate association to use :D
Dan Echo 01-15-2005, 11:07 PM I have never referred to any lady, not even my ex, as my 'old lady', and I would certainly never do so with my lady, not even in jest. I have called my lady beautiful, angel, beloved, or simply her name, but I would never insult her by calling her that, or any other euphamisms, such as 'the old ball and chain' or 'the old battleaxe'.
I agree with Wildndthing; it is very disrespectful, and could get one an owie if used around a lady with a weighted pocketbook:eek:

I totally agree. And it is hurtful. I remember overhearing my ex refer to me as 'the old bat' to his buddies one day. I was only 19 at the time. But the pain from that stayed with me a long time. I never knew he thought so lowly of me until then.
kyrie310 09-06-2005, 11:49 AM DanEcho, what a nice thought! I personally like the WOW shorthand. All women can use a little ego boost sometimes. I wish I could be as sure of my ym's feelings for me and you are about your feelings for your lady. Sometimes you guys are hard to read.
Dan Echo 09-07-2005, 10:03 PM Hey, someone reactivated my thread! Cool!! Kyrie, how about WATPW; Wonderful Aged To Perfection Women. I have said this before in other threads: having been in the music business for several years (just got out, though it never gets out of you), I can tell you that EVERYONE wants a 57 Strat or a 59 Les Paul guitar. Sure, the new one is nice, and I have a new one of each, and love them. But an old guitar gets top dollar.
Why? Simple: having been played for years, the wood has opened up and aged making it sound better. I have had my Stratocaster for about five years now, and it sounds better than it did new. My Les Paul keeps getting better, and my 1987 Kramer Stryker, well... look out!! Same with my 80's BC Rich!
Another analogy is wine. You have to age it just to make it decent, but if you age it longer, it gets better.
The truth is, all ladies have wonderful qualities and I still believe that when GOD made man, He said "good" but when He made woman, He said, "Oh, yeah, now she is Great!!". But as a lady ages, she simply has more and more at her disposal to make us young gents sit up and take notice. Let the low IQ guys drool over Britney (her looks are fake anyway); those of us with a brain know that there's a lot more substance to an older lady. All women lose their youth. All women don't gain substance. I've read a lot of posts here on ageless, and all of you ladies here have substance and class. Those qualities go a lot further than youthful looks.
Dan Echo
Tinkabell 09-08-2005, 05:58 AM I Personally don't 'Like' the abbreviation OW.....because it reminds me of "Old Woman", and when I think of Old Women,...I envisage the old woman who lives down the road, who pokes you with her walking stick, because you have parked your car in her husband parking spot....*shrug*
MerAlove23 09-08-2005, 06:49 PM Yeahhh Dan!! LOL Don't you love to see older threads revived!!
Dan says, "All women lose their youth. All women don't gain substance." That's the kind of phrasing I've been looking for! My boyfriend likes me because I have certain traits & abilities (substance). If he were to have selected a different mate, he would have no guarantee she would ever develop those traits & abilities. The only unusual thing about our ages is that he gained & learned to appreciate those traits at such a young age.
As for what started this thread, I think it's silly. LOL :)
Priya 09-17-2005, 06:04 AM In hindi, ow means come. So all the ymmmm men here feel like saying OW to the WOWs in their life.. :D

Yes Priya is right. In Hindi, Its `come'. So we don't find any issue in it. There are too many popular songs which starts with this song.
Anyway, I feel its a issue which doesn't deserve to be debated.

No arguements there :D ! One observation though; ymmmm sounds a lot like yum. Kinda cool
