He's 5 years younger

Hi everyone, I found this sight and hope you can reassure me a little :)
I recently met a guy who is great, but I am a single parent to a 7 year old and I am 26. I know I am still 'young', but because I have been thru quite a bit in my life, I feel older. He is 21...just turned. I have a slight hang up about his age. He says he generally dates older women because he has been thru a lot too and doesn't feel younger women are on his level. He has also made it very clear that he wants a marriage (someday) and children. Although he is very mature in some aspects, every now and then he shows his age :)
But I like him and want to put away the worries about age. Did anyone else have a problem at first and if so, how did you find you both handled it?

Ok....first off you will find out from the reading the boards here that 5 years is not a big gap at all.

We handled the 12 year gap between us by getting married.

Not trying to be trite....just the truth.

Yep, couldn't agree more! But, yes... it was definitely bumpy in the beginning trying to get a handle on the age gap (13.5 years here).

But, Litical is GREAT. (I'm 33 with two kids, he's 19 ~ we live together and just celebrated a year of dating! WOOT!)

If it's good, it's good. Don't let 5 years stop you from enjoying a GOOD thing. :D

Your situation sounds familiar. When I was in my early 20's and a single mom, I had no want to date any younger guys. Fast forward some years, i'm now in a wonderful relationship with a man 8 years younger (we met here :D ). Believe me when I say 5 or 8 years is so minimal to some of the age gap relationships you'll find here. Love is age-blind.

I say ease into dating this person and take it from there.
