Tinkabell 03-09-2005, 06:02 PM Hi Dans
I was just wondering if you knew anything about the sound coming out of the computer..
I have a lap-top and a few days ago.....The sound just Went, no clicking sound when you hit the icons.....No Music and stuff....
Then this morning, it just 'returned'.....Weird....Is there such thing as a virus that takes away your sound?
Tinks:)
Dan_Shues 03-09-2005, 08:04 PM Hi Tink,
Is this the first time it's happened? Also, had you rebooted it since when it stopped working and this morning?
I don't think there is a virus that would cause that. A low battery? Perhaps. Or, it could of just been a simple glitch.
Tinkabell 03-10-2005, 12:58 AM Your Right......
I did re-boot it this morning, and I guess It must have been a glitch then......and No....It hasn't happened before.....
Thanks:)Tinks
lencarol 03-30-2005, 09:11 AM Hi Dan,
The same thing is happening with my laptop, no sound. I have rebooted and does not help. Now, an even worse problem--my keys are sticking, then they will make a looooooong run of letters as if doing this by themselves. Helppppppp!
Dan_Shues 03-30-2005, 09:48 AM Hi lencarol...
Hmm, the sound? I'm not sure what that could be...that's odd. Although, I wonder if it has anything to do with your sticking keys..like a series of keystrokes could be disabling the sound? I'll have to think about that. If you had the disks readily handy...I would say go into the device manager, uninstall the sound drivers and reinstall them. But, you would have to make sure you have the drivers handy.
As for the sticking keys...
Is it possible you spilled anything on the keyboard? Or, it could be from general wear and tear...
There is really, to my knowledge, no easy way to clean a laptop keyboard. I found one tutorial, however I do not know how well it works and can not suggest it one way or the other...
http://www.computing.net/howto/simple/keyboard/
You can try it, however I can not tell you if it works. Some of the things sound suspect on that page. Use at your own risk.
The one thing I can suggest and it might be cumbersome...but, does your laptop have a PS/2 port on it some place? (This is the type of connection that regular desktop computers usually use for thier keyboard.) You could buy a small cheap keyboard and plug it into that, to use if the keyboard on the laptop keeps sticking...
In the meantime, I'll keep scouring and see if I can find some better instructions.

lencarol 03-30-2005, 11:02 AM Thanks for the tips Dan. I think I will take it back to where I purchased it. It is a NEW laptop, Gateway Centrino, very nice. But just started sticking a few days ago. Nothing spilled on them. ALSO, the typing will just stop, then a beepppppppppppppppppping sound, theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen this annoying runaway of letters begins. Arghhh! So may be the software, NOT the keys??
Dan_Shues 03-30-2005, 12:57 PM It's possible it could be software....
If a piece of software is causing your computer to hang, you will get a delay in typing at times. If that's the case, it's almost as if something is corrupt with some type of software of a system file...or the laptop is not powerful enough really to handle the software.

Tinkabell 03-30-2005, 09:11 PM I dont know if this is guna help Lencarol.......But I had a similar thing and there was a stem of a grape or something stuck under it....So I hoovered it out with the vacum cleaner and it was fine after that.....

lencarol 04-09-2005, 08:54 AM Well, Dan, for whatever reason my keys have stopped sticking. Don't know what I did if anything. But am glad it's over! Thanks for the advice.
Thanks fireman also, I tried that, but the sound still isn't working. Will keep fiddling with it though.
lencarol 04-10-2005, 10:52 AM Tinka, just reading back over this thread. Hoover, eh? Will have to find my special attachment for hoovering out laptops! for next time. But seems to be working fine now for the moment. Now if I can only get the sound to work again...
