There are people here that find all sorts of valuable information on the web but whenever I search, I just get a bunch of sites trying to sell stuff. I desperately need advice on how to do intelligent searches, please.
Also, it drives me crazy when people talk about their websites but don't give the specifics to find them, for instance:
- there is a website for people who have maintained weightloss for 3 years or more
- someone is compiling quotes from regular people to put in a book
Thanks in advance!

what I usually do is I try different combinations of keywords and in order to save time I click on the 'cached' button which highlights the keywords that you used. That way you can go straight to the paragraph that concerns your research. Don't hesitate to type whole sentences for example 'maintaining weightloss 3 years' or 'still loosing weight after 3 years' sometimes you end up in a discussion forum and when you read it you might find one of the posters mentioning the web site that you're looking for. it works for me, hope this helps. good luck :)

What Loucine says is pretty spot on. If your search doesn't turn up anything, try different wording. Try different combinations of wordings. Really, there is no set way to go about doing searches.
And unfortunately, you will most likely have to sift through the useless sites that try to sell you something. Alot of times, they sponsor the search engines...to get thier site higher in the return ranking. Also, they will name thier website something particular, like have it start with A's...to get it up higher. Why? For the exact reason you stated...so they can sell you something.
