GoldieCat 05-16-2005, 05:34 PM Oh, yes, sexy. Must...be....sexy.

As if these are the only women who get involve in these kinds of relationships. Will this be the opposite of the "cougar women" you think.
If we can't show them old and desparate, lets at least how them just plain old with a weekly pedicure.

fos4snt 05-16-2005, 05:58 PM And why are they ALWAYS on a "very tight deadline?" For once I would like a reporter who came here actually having TONS of time on their hands to research the REALITY of OW/YM relationships.
I'm not desperate nor am I a housewife. This kind of stereo-typical garbage should just get "DELETED" outright... :p
Ridiculous.

Hot4Ryan 05-16-2005, 07:08 PM ...kids and any other baggage...
You'd never convince me to lump my kid into the "baggage" category.

Rosie...I'm wit' ya girl! :D
Inamorata 05-17-2005, 12:21 AM I was just looking at the latest issue of More (I ALREADY knew I was smart and sexy, thank you). It includes an article entitled "Damage Control from Neck to Knees", in which readers are told how to "fix" their hands, legs etc. - try plumping your hands with fillers which are "injected in a series of a few syringes, at $750 each." YIKES! my hands will have to look as old as the rest of me!
This VERY SAME issue also contains a pictorial making fun of celebrities who have had cosmetic surgery gone wrong, too much cosmetic surgery, or who dress inappropriately for their age - apparently it's not acceptable to show too much skin past a ccertain age. What! After they just told us how to spend thousands "fixing" our midsections, legs, etc., now we gotta hide them! These pictorials had titles like "Duck Lips", "Cosmetic Surgery Hall of Fame", and, you guessed it, "Mutton Dressed as Lamb". YUCK!
Magnetar 05-17-2005, 01:31 AM sounds like you put the magazine back in its place :D

Or is that "Back on the SHELF"!! http://www.smileyworld.com/dictionary/images/smileys/MoodExpressions/disgusted.gif

Does that mean we have 2 upper cut punches on this thread? ;)

And, yet it hasn't been deleted... why

Maybe we should call a TKO :D
To all of you who were offended by my use of the word "baggage" in my post yesterday, I hope you will accept my sincere apology. It was a poorly chosen word--I certainly don't think of my children as baggage either. I'm going to try to convey what I--having read your responses and really thought about it--truly mean: Previous marriages, kids and any and all life experiences that have enriched you as a person and your relationship would be a tremendous asset to this article. Thanks for reading this. ---MORE
marcy 05-17-2005, 11:39 AM Wow nice to see an apology... I think I am too young for your article... but good luck.

OMG.. hilarious Rose!!!! :D
Well, I'm not college-educated. I'm not financially secure nor do I have an established career. I guess that rules me out.
fos4snt 05-17-2005, 11:57 AM LOL! Well... I'm college educated, financially afloat and all that... BUT, I still don't see that this is taken seriously by the reporter.
IF you really wanted to write a sincere article, you would not do a RUSH job or make such specific and absurd requests with flippant uses of words like "sexy" and "baggage."
All you have to do is read the site to get a good handle on the TYPES of people who are seriously involved in OW/YM relationships... the problems they encounter, the similarities to non-AGR relationships, etc. I mean, 98% of the time there IS no "age" issues between me and my partner, who is 13.5 years younger than I am. It simply doesn't come up.
... take your time. Write a true article, not some  flippant stereo-typical, biased BILGE trying to make us all LOOK a certain way to appeal to your public. For crying out loud, why can't OW/YM couples just been seen like almost any OTHER couple out there?
Yeah... no thanks.

greeneyedgirl 05-17-2005, 01:33 PM it's the ol' bandwagon thing.
ow/ym is 'in' right now, it's new, it's taboo, omg let's write an article quick quick quick.
nty
these aren't numbers and screen names. these are real live people who have faced demons in relation to their love for an ow or a ym. some conquered the demons, others didn't. it's appalling in and of itself that there are even such double standard demons out there. and so far, i've seen NOTHING by any media group that would inspire me to lay my heart on the table for all the world to ogle over.
real people deserve time and appreciation, not ASAP!

Well, actually, I'm all in favor of us getting out the word that OW/YM relationships are REAL. I think we should take advantage of every opportunity to dispell all the old myths.
However, in this case, it was More's use of the term "sexy" that completely turned me off from even wanting to participate in this opportunity. In my opinion, anytime a reporter uses the word "sexy" they are writing the article only for one purpose -- sensationalism.
Rose -- there's no reason to delete this thread. I say leave it as a learning experience for future reporters who come here. If they want to learn about real relationships, then they are welcome to come here and post asking if anyone wants to participate. But, hopefully, they'll run across this thread and see that no one around here takes too kindly to stereotypes.

I abolutely agree.

It was the 'insulting use of wording' that depicted the same outcome to me - sensationalism- that dictated... simply 'Delete'... to me.
Considering your take on why not to delete, WR... I see, and agree with your reasoning, and in doing so, I've reconsidered my initial 'Delete' response, and agree with leaving the thread visable to 'teach'!.
Thank you, WR. :)
