Science Goddess 05-19-2005, 03:54 PM Hi, Dan ~
Do you know if there's anyway for me to modify and save forms that are in PDF, even though I don't have Acrobat at home?
I'm job hunting, and the fact that so many public and private employers will accept resumes over the internet is great! Unfortunately, I don't have acrobat so if it's a public agency, they usually require a formal application. The application is usually in PDF so I have to print it and take it to the nearest Kinko's and fax it.
Any legitimate 'tricks' to modifying PDFs w/out Acrobat?
Thanks,
Gina

It's not really that easy....unless the pdf has fields within it to fill out...
gtsnapper 05-25-2005, 03:49 PM Unfortunetly pdf forms can't be saved with the data you entered (they save with blank fields) and so you can only print them out.
Science Goddess 05-25-2005, 04:00 PM Hmm, actually, PDFs can be modified and saved with Adobe Acrobat. I've done it many times...in the office.
Unfortunately, I only have Adobe Reader at home because Acrobat costs moola, and I'm on a budget right now.
I was really hoping that there was some type of shareware/free program out there that someone has developed for modifying PDFs.

You wont be able to save modified pdf form with the reader that you have, you'll need the professional version for that. I've been looking for a while for free pdf writers/editors, but haven't found any as yet; I would be interested to know if free versions had been developed.
If you are just looking for the short term, have a look on Google, quite a few companies offer use of their pdf editing software, free for 30 days, and on the other hand, if you are spending money on faxing, there are low priced pdf editiors, and you might not be spend any more money purchasing one.
Science Goddess 05-26-2005, 10:01 AM Thanks!
I'll take a look for a trial version. And you make a very good point that it might be at least as cost effective to purchse a knock-off PDF editor rather than to fax.
I've taken to using snailmail if I can't find someone to fax for me but sometimes I need to get something out ASAP.
Thanks a bunch.
foolinlove906 05-26-2005, 10:09 AM I'm not sure if this will work for what you are doing, however give it a shot. If you have Microsoft Word or another Word procession software, Select ALL in the PDF you are working with, Copy it, and past it into a Word document. Your document will then be saved in a different program, however you are able to edit it.

I tried that but it loses the formatting.
This might work with text only but I'm trying to complete forms.
Thanks for trying!
