I have to brag!!!

Four years ago, my oldest granddaughter (then age 15) had been 'home-schooled' by her mother since the 2nd grade. She was behind in almost every subject, except being a genius at art. She had to go to high school because her dad ran off with a 22 year old and left his wife and their 6 kids. Her mom had to go to work to support the family.

My granddaughter was terrified of the idea. I took her to the high school (& her Mom, my daughter) and enrolled her. I came up there at lunch time, at her request, the first day, because she was so nervous.... :) After 2 days, she was doing well and on her way (thanks to some great teachers!)

Well, guess what???!!! She is graduating this Saturday (at the SAME high school that I graduated from)! And she did not have to take any of her finals as she has been on the honor this year. She has not had an easy time of it, with being homeless, Dad abandons her, Mom got on crack and her own drug addiction. I am so proud of her....

PS... she has been clean and sober for 9 months now... and her Mom too is doing great after giving up drugs almost 6 months ago.

Congrats to her... THis must be such a great time for you guys......!!

I do want to say that I know this is tiny but I see that you mentioned that her dad ran off with a 22 year old... I don't think age has to do with that... :) He just ran off with another woman..... ITs tough when your in a situation like that and the dad just runs off.. I hate that some men can be such deadbeats ( so can women to but) it's terrible how someone can just leave their children like that... but sometimes that may just make her stronger!!

I wish her the BEST of Luck!

Congratulations to your granddaughter, Barb. That's quite an accomplishment. She has evidently become stronger as a result of all that has happened to her and has overcome many obstacles. I think that she is paving the way for a successful future in this world.

Congratulations to your daughter, too, Trish! :)

Congrats..Congrats...

You should be bragging as it seems that both your daughter and grand daughter have been through a lot and are both on their way to bigger and better things. Me being the parent of a teen as well I can tell you that its hard on teens these days. It even hard on those with so called normal two parent households.

So be proud. Brag. Tell the world how great she's doing. She will always remember that her granny was proud of her.

:) :)

"dad ran off with a 22 year old... " The reason that I said the age is because for HIM... it was ALL about ego. That is what he bragged about to all his friends... that he 'got' a 20 year old. The "man" was 39 at the time. :(
