Hey everyone!
It's been a while since I've been on these boards. That's what happens though when the post office drops the box containing your computer, and it takes two months to get a new one.
Anyway, I've been somewhat quietly browsing the posts the past week or two (except last week--was in San Francisco). And I'm noticing something--a lot of these situations are so depressing! I want to see more of the great sides to our relationships with our older men or younger women. What makes us happy? What about our significant other do we just adore? I think everyone could benefit from a thread detailing the good things. Sooooo.. I shall start.
I've been with my OM for almost ten months now, and despite our age gap (21-47) I feel like I've never had a better connection with anyone. I've also never been so happy with someone. It's sometimes an odd feeling for me--I've been happy in relationships before, but now that I've seen how wonderful this man is, I've realized that I've never had this kind of mutual respect before. It's an incredible feeling to get along so well with someone.
At first his friends questioned his sanity for dating a 21-year-old, but I think most have changed their minds. From so many of his friends (some who are now friends of mine), I've heard about how they had their doubts, but once they met me they realized how great I was, and how my maturity surprised them. I've also heard from people that they've never seen my boyfriend so happy as he is with me. From his friends, I think that's the best compliment I could ever receive. Just like my OM accepted me for me and not for my age, his friends have all done the same.
We've had some ups and downs like any relationship. There are days where I'm just in a bad mood or frustrated, and he understands that my moods are never directed at him. He knows that no one is perfect, but that perhaps people may be perfect for each other..?
I'm very happy with my choice to go down this sometimes tough road. It hurts that sometimes people refuse to accept it, but who said something this good would be easy? I'm happy to work for it and prove all the doubters wrong.
So what about you? What makes you happy?
Katie :)
