How did you meet your special someone?

AceRock

If you're an YM looking to meet a like-minded OW, or if you're an OW seeking a YM, where's the best place to look for them?

Is it the typical places like the grocery store, bars, etc. --- or is it somewhere else?

Are your meetings just chance, or did you seek the other person out?

Let me know how you met your YM or OW and if you could give any advice on how to meet someone, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

The guys that I've dated that were younger I met at the gym, at blockbuster...just out and about. I almost never go to bars although people say I should 2 meet people...I get a little intimidated!

We met at a Bowling Center. :D

But it started by him saying we should go out sometime and I'm thinking to myself yeah right...I'm so old compared to you. But I suggested that he give me golf lessons.

And well the rest is history...so those are my two ideas!

We meet through an online dating service. I was not searching for a YM and my profile reflected I was looking for an older man. My YM sent me a "wink" even though he did not meet my "what I'm looking for" criteria. I had to look twice at his age...made me giggle :p at first and then I decided to reply. We have not gone a day without talking for 5 month now and it's going strong.

We met in a yahoo chatroom. We became friends and actually jokingly called each other "mom" and "son". That was before we saw each other.

I then sent him photos and he sent me one that was dark and difficult to see very well. And then one day, I saw him on cam and was absolutely floored. I didn't have a cam yet, but I spent the evening flirting with him. And, then by the next day, decided I was crazy because of the age difference.

But, shortly afterward, I got a cam and he was able to see me better and that was the turning point. His interest in me changed from friendship to romance. But, I still spent 6 months trying to stop thinking of him. I even got involved with someone else, but when that didn't work out, I decided to finally give him a chance. We met in person 5 months after that, and the rest is history.

We met in the Ageless Chatroom a year and a half ago. :) I was seeking advice about another relationship I was pondering and he was just hanging out being friendly..we started chatting and it went on from there.

Welcome to Ageless AceRock.

I wasn't really searching for a relationship, and I certainly didn't expect to fall for the guy I fell for. I'd been chatting online with him for almost two years before we actually met and decided to be together.

That he was 13 years younger was a bit scary for me, I wasn't sure how well he would manage being in a long distance relationship with a mother of three children, or how well I could handle being in a relationship with a guy who had so much to experience yet to even begin to be able to understand me.

But I was wrong to worry, it turns out we do just fine, although it takes a lot of patience and understanding.

We met in a chat room on IRC in March 2003.

I'm assuming that you're not looking specifically for a long distance relationship so maybe the places you mentioned would be better places to look to meet anybody at all, regardless of age.

Love comes in all shapes, colours and ages. ;)

We met on a Metallica webboard when I lived in the Netherlands and she in Arizona.

It's safe to say that if it hadn't been for Metallica we probably wouldn't have found eachother LOL. :D

Litical and I met through a mutual friend... we both lived in the same neighborhood. :D

My first husband (who is one of my best friends, just didn't work out with us together) I met in a bar, oddly enough... and I rarely, if ever, go to bars... same with him! LOL.

we met kind of via a messageboard for a band we both like. She came over for a gig, stayed with s friend of mine, we met and that was it.

I think if you carry on doing the things you like to and normally do, you'll eventually wind up meeting someone that'll be a good 'match'. At least you'll know you have some of the same interests I think.

That's how I met my YM. It was a discussion board that had a role-playing game going on. I wasn't looking for anyone - he was a pleasant surprise.

ETA: I'm from MA. Ironically, he's also from Ontario. ^_^

Hey Ace,

For me, I can say you never really know where you'll meet that special someone.

To make my story quite short, I met my love, Eric/Pariah right here at Ageless :)

And yes, we do have an eight year age differance.

Met my husband online. I wasn't looking for anyone. In fact, when he suggested we become a couple, I said, "Not in a million years"

Thank God he didn't listen to me

DaBollucks, and here I was thinking those were good places to meet people. I STAND CORRECTED! I wonder if I can fit a crackhouse, county lock-up, a methadone clinic, the unemployment office, and a free cheese line into one day? I'd try a van down by the river, but I think that only Matt Foley lives there.

Thanks to everyone else for their stories and advice.

Totally by accident. She was my downstairs neighbor for several years when I lived in an apartment. We became friends shortly after we met. I didn't think She was any older than I was when I first met her. My first tipoff to her age was her intelligence and ability to communicate.

Basically, I think we met through divine intervention. Neither of us had had a lot of dating success before we met, and we are both basically introverts.

18 months ago on christiancafe.com. We both had 7 day free trial periods and were the only ones to respond to each other's postings. We've been through a lot with each other over the last 18 months but it's made our relationship so much stronger. We moved in together in January and are getting married on July 9. One month and two days to go!

I could not have asked for a better man....and as one of my favorite songs says (and we tell each other this often) "When God made you he must have been thinking about me!"

I'm 40 and he's 35.

We met online. No one knows specifically what board we met on, and actually, now that I think about it, none of our friends know we met online. We met for the first time in person in a restaurant/bar, so we just tell everyone that story if they ask. :)

just 8 years...is that considered an age gap relationship? that's one of the smallest i've heard of in a while. i'm assuming no one mistakes you for mother and son.

He startet to pay me some compliments and I replyed and soon the owner of the board told us to take it to the PM, so we did, just for fun at first, but I think both of us knew pretty early that there was a little more than just fun :p
we are getting married this summer.
He lives in WA and I in Norway, but not for long... :D

Man.......you have to realize that in the past I would have considered a man two years younger TOO YOUNG...lol! I really did. So eight years was a huge step for me, personally. Being here however opened my eyes to so much more. I'm really happy I took that chance, ya know. :)

I help out at a charity shop, my VYM started doing some voluntary driving for us, moving stuff to other shops, taking unsellable stuff to the refuse tip etc. He also did some help in sorting out the stuff which is what I usually do the lions share of.

We often found ourselves together sorting thorugh stuff and we got on, we both have highly developed senses of humour.

Personal circumstances are that my husband had left me, not for the stereotypical young dolly bird, but for a woman the same age as us, so I was feeling really bad about myself, considered myself old and unattractive. My VYM was rather shy and, as it turned out, a virgin.

He actually asked me out, which he has admitted took a lot of courage, not just because of the age difference (he was 20 I was 54) but because of his intorvert nature. I used my age as an excuse and told him that he couldn't be interested in an old bag like me, but fortunately he persisted, I guess he saw that I did like him, eventually he persuaded me that I should ignore our ages and just go with the personalities. We liked each other, it was our lives and stuff what anyone else thought.

The relationship is now 2 years old and still going strong, he has been a real find, he is fun, caring and sexy, he has restored my confidence in myself and given my life a real fillip.

Silver, you two make the cutest couple!! Can't even tell there's an age difference there!!!

I met my younger man through my job...he auditioned for a musician role in the movie I wrote. A lot of the amatuer flutists are really young and some are really ****y so my ym stood out in that he was closer to my age (by five years) and very humble about who he was, where he's been and what he's done in life. We started talking and the next thing you know, we were, um...more than just talking!!! ;)

I met this WONDERFUL OW over an online game. I wasn't expecting to EVER find anyone who made me feel so good. I still think about it, and wonder was I REALLY that lucky? As time has progressed I keep asking myself the same question, and the only answer I come up with is yes..... im so lucky.
