Removing adhesive from 'popcorn' ceiling

Okay, well, I knew the day would come when I'd have to figure this one out.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to remove those glow in the dark stars from a popcorn ceiling without leaving holes in the popcorn?

I already had half of them stuck to the ceiling before I realized that removing them would take off the popcorn. So, of course, being the brainiac that I am (sarcasm), I decided that living with the stars would be work the pain of removing them.

I have a feeling that I'm losing most of my deposit upon vacating. :(

Edit: Optionally, can I somehow 'patch' the spots where the popcorn is being pulled off. I've got a couple of spots that are as large as quarters. :(

I was just at Wal-Mart the other day holding in my hands a spray can that looked a LOT like a can of compressed air with the little straw, and the whole purpose of it was to "spray" patch for popcorn ceilings. LOL

You'll find it in the paint department at your local hardware store or Wal-Mart!!! It was cheap, too. Just pop the straw in and spray it into the areas where it needs some more texture.

I was considering using it for a whole 'nuther purpose, but I figured it would take too much time.

Believe it or not....I have found for wallpaper anyway, the best thing to use is liquid fabric softener.....believe it or not. Just take a little and put it in a spray bottle.....maybe on the popcorn ceiling....use very little spray....One thing I know about popcorn ceilings.....doesn't take much for them to lose their popcorn. I painted mine once and it was like snow!! Good luck..

Fabric softener is used to remove wallpaper paste.

I don't want to remove the popcorn...I want to repair the holes that I'm leaving in it!

But thanks for the input. :)

I couldn't agree with you more! :D Love the women around these parts!

I'm always wandering around the tool/home renovation/home decoration departments of whatever store I'm going to... Tuesday nights (when the kids are with my Mom), we can spend hours at either Walmart or Lowe's. LOL. Mostly JUST LOOKING and formulating ideas.

Too many ideas.. too little money... too little time, but it's all stored in there somewhere. ;) Glad to be of help!

There is something called "spackle" that might work, you can get at a hardward store. I have used white toothpast before to fill in holes in walls, sometimes works, especially with drywall.

Okay, just in case anyone else cares:

The stuff in the can with the tube was, I think, for a textured ceiling/wall as opposed to the real popcorn type ceiling.

There was another kind of spray stuff for the ceiling but it seemed to be more appropriate for larger patches...as opposed to the numerous little ones needed from being obsessed with having a glow-in-the-dark universe on the ceiling.

The hardward store carries a tube of gunk for patching the popcorn ceiling. You just dab it on, let it dry, and paint. It really was a snap.

Be sure to follow the directions on the tube for squeezing and shaking otherwise it comes out watery.

Fos, dontcha love the hardware store? I do. I can wander around in Home Depot forever.

P.S. - I'm lovin' your new avatar!

Thanks, SG! Glad to hear you found something JUST RIGHT for your project.

And yes, the hardware store is my MOST favorite store. If I could choose any store to spend a million bucks at, you better believe it would be Home Depot... or Lowe's. Or maybe halfsies. LOL. Hell, even ACE is good. But nothing beats Pleasants in Richmond. ADDICT. Yes, I am.

Every time I go to Lowe's (the closest to me), I swear to you, I cannot leave! I'm there for HOURS and I just keep going... OOoOOOOOooooo and AAHHH and AH-HAH! THAT'S how you do that!

:D

I love the hardware store, too. I go up and down all the aisles looking at all the gadgets I have never seen before, wondering what they are all for. So fascinating. Lowe's is my favorite so far.
