MerAlove23 06-25-2005, 06:51 AM Well My little guy is a little young to understand books yet.. However I do try and read to him daily however he just kinda grabs the book and plays with it LOL... so we don't get much accomplished . I am wanting to see any good recommendations that I can start building his library with.... I have quite a few good ones....but am always looking for more!! Reading is extremely important for them so I want to make sure I make this a priority!
I for one so far like I Love you Forever.... That book actually makes me cry!!
I have 10 little catipillars
Head,ears,nose, and mouth...
Goodnight Moo
Daddy Kisses
The entire Disney collection.. it's one huge book..
the Story of Winnie the Pooh..
I want a Hug.....
and a few more
whiterose 06-25-2005, 08:21 AM You mentioned two of my favorites that I loved reading to my children... "I Love You Forever" (I couldn't get through that without crying too) and "Goodnight Moon".
At his age, you might look for "Pat the Bunny". It's really made for babies. Has a lot of different textures that they can feel. So, that will give him something to do while you read the words.
Here are some others my kids always enjoyed:
"Ten Little Kittens" (probably like your caterpillar book)
Any Dr. Seuss book. In particular my kids loved "Go Dog Go", "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish", "The Cat In The Hat", "Green Eggs and Ham".
"Storybook Dictionary" by Richard Scarry
"The Velveteen Rabbit"
MerAlove23 06-25-2005, 10:43 AM thanks Kat I'll definatly get them!!!
I see a ton of books and I'm like which one is better.!!!! ITs to much to decide LOL I spent like 3 hours tryin to pick the right books

fos4snt 06-27-2005, 01:06 PM Well, first off... let me make a recommendation. When I left the hospital, they gave me a packet with all kinds of things in it. One was the Grolier Book Clubs Dr. Suess collection. I'm SURE if you did a search you could order it online. WORTH EVERY CENT. You get every Dr. Suess book (2 a month) and all the Leo Theig books and ALL the Berenstein bears over a 2-3 year period. It was one of the best investments I ever made and they have lasted through three kids (my former step-son, too) and are still in GREAT shape. Well, most of them. ;) Tons of usage on all of them, too.
My favorites, though:
A Fly Went By ~ by Mike McClintock (Cyclical ~ as in, ends how it begins ~ and SO much fun to read!!) There's another McClintock book about a ball with the same little boy who chases the ball all over town and that one is also very good, but I cannot remember the name of it.
Dr. Suess: MUST HAVES
Sneetches and other stories (What Was I scared of and Too Many Daves are both AMAZING stories!)
Green Eggs and Ham
Fox in Sox
The Sleep Book
The Lorax
Hop on Pop
Alright, fine... ALL the Dr. Suess books are simply must haves. LOL.
There was a book I bought a friend of mine's son two years ago which was perfect for very young toddler boys. I cannot remember the name, but it was a TOOL book with large hard cardboard tools (hammer, wrench, screwdriver) that could be used to turn things in the book. VERY fun.
Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree My kids, both of them, simply love this story and I think I've read it to them more than any other book we own, and we have... two floor to ceiling bookshelves filled with childrens books!!!
There's also a really wonderful Twinkle Twinkle Little Star book. Let me find the author when I get home. Beautiful illustrations. It was my sons favorite for years.

i was gonna suggest this one
marcy 06-27-2005, 01:16 PM My youngest daughter adored all of the Angelina Ballerina books.
Jo-Admin 06-27-2005, 03:58 PM I loved the Lorax. My kids read it hundred times at least. Also, the Butter Battle Book by Dr. Suess. It's really adorable.
My mom had this set of books when I was a kid, and they were really old but they might be in reprint, and they were called "Uncle Wiggly". He was a rabbit, and they are the cutest stories, just a few pages long, maybe 20 or so in a volume specifically for bedtime. We LOVED those, and I read them to my kids too when they were little.

Do you mean Fox in Sox, Jo? I ask because my FAVORITE part of that story is the Tweedle Beetle Puddle Muddle Battle in a Bottle on a Noodle Eating Poodle. ROFLAO. (I actually want a tweedle beetle tattoo... LOL)

BellaLove 06-27-2005, 06:35 PM I love Richard Scarry's 'Best Storybook Ever'.....I so read that when I was a little squirt!! :D
Jo-Admin 06-28-2005, 01:20 AM Fos...It's actually called The Butter Battle Book....and it's about two groups of people, or probably "whos", who get into a battle because one group of them eat their bread with the butter side up, and the other group eat it with the butter side down.....
It's one that has a lesson built in there, similar to The Lorax. Too cute. My uncle's a minister, and he gave it to us. He had used part of it in a sermon...lol.
