Tinkabell 07-06-2005, 02:06 AM Well you can try Meditating or something....
Because once you get good at doing it,.....this is a way that you can rest the body.....And the mind , without actually being Asleep.....
Then, you can try stuff like Astral Travelling......this can be really interesting....,but make sure you set your alarm, as you probably will lose track of time very easily....Plus, you can fall asleep too, Oh, this goes for the meditating as well, make sure you are sitting upright for meditation......
Otherwise.....You can just lye there and try and forget that you cant sleep.....and hopefully you will fall asleep.......I mean, its obviously your mind that is keeping you awake with its constant......thinking.......thinking.....so try turning it off......and try thinking of......."nothing"
easier said than done........But practice.....GoodLuck ;)
The Shadow 07-06-2005, 02:08 AM Thanks Flyer and Tinkabell,
Prehaps will go try that shortly.

Charlotte 07-06-2005, 03:34 AM I used to have an audio tape that I recorded of myself reading some hypnosis instructions: flexing and releasing specific muscles and envisioning peaceful images....etc.
It was really great. It worked well for me anyhow. I think I just found it online...it was actually based on chakras.
Sweet dreams :)

that's ma lil nudge to nod land. of course, that's part of my sleep 'routine'. and my body knows that when i'm lying down reading, it's time to sleep.
been that way since i was like 10.
loud fan helps block out background noise too. and keeping the house COOL at night.
ok, now i wanna go back to bed.
deb100855 07-06-2005, 08:43 AM Shadow,
This happens to me all the time. It comes and goes in cycles. It's been a chronic problem all my life, from the time I was a young child.
Guys tend to turn their noses up at my solution, but I get in a hot bubble bath in a darkened room (night light only.) sip on a glass of unchilled wine. Herbal tea would probably be a good choice too. I soak in the tub for awhile and I STAY IN THE TUB while the water drains. If you do that you can feel the weight of your body as the support of the water disappears. You feel relaxed and "heavy". I get out slowly, wrap myself in a towel and go directly to bed, without drying off, which can be stimulating. Works every time. I'm sleeping like a baby in no time at all.
As for working the next day w/little or no sleep - you just get through the day and hope you will pass out when you get home . . .Hope things go better for you tonight.

rdhdnrs 07-06-2005, 11:37 AM I have a CD called "Relaxing Celtic" just one of those generic things from Target. I put it on my alarm clock/CD player and hit the sleep button and it plays it all the way through. It almost never fails to do the trick. This is what I do if reading and having a glass of wine don't work. If all that fails, I get up and get on the computer and look up stuff I don't have time to during the day!
Good luck.
Chatterbox 07-06-2005, 02:37 PM I say to myself, "If I don't fall asleep RIGHT NOW, I will make myself get up and clean the oven!' Sometimes it works! Other times I just lay there with my eyes squeezed tight-shut so I won't know I'm still awake! :D
manofmisteree 07-06-2005, 02:40 PM why not get melatonin, it's not expensive and it helps a lot. maybe warm milk....i believe a certain kind of meat caused people to get sleepy...um, turkey? how about a little wine.
Chatterbox 07-06-2005, 02:43 PM But seriously, meditation (or astral travel) is terrific when you can't sleep: first, you will fall asleep eventually, but also, you can create whatever you want or you can use the time to resolve problems.
Here's one I like: Go to a peaceful garden. Feed the large goldfish (Koi) a whole loaf of bread. When the bread is gone, turn and see yourself sitting under a tree and go over and talk to yourself for awhile. Then return to the garden and curl up in the sun and fall asleep.

Chatterbox 07-06-2005, 02:54 PM Nothing weird about it, Mano (thinking of spending time with a beautiful woman as you drift off to sleep)! It beats the HECK outta my oven thing! And it's your mind and it's your time, why not enjoy it?
The meeting yourself thing is excellent for getting in touch with your feelings and connecting with yourself and encouraging yourself to get out there and meet that beautiful woman in RL!!! :D
