Anthropomorphistic Aphorisms

Every pet owner that I know, KNOWS their pet is constantly thinking, acting, and communicating. To heck with those people that don't know any better -let's share some stories!

I called my dog Candy over for a bite of Fig Newton. Her dish, in which she had just had some lunch scraps was still on the floor, empty. She ran to it, put her nose in, then looked at me and said, "Mummy, there's nothing here!!!" But then when she saw the piece of cookie I was holding, all was forgiven!

One winter nite my older cat Amber escaped into the snow. I couldn't catch her, so I looked at my younger cat Renegade, and said 'go get her buddy-bring her home'
he herded her back in the house like he was herding sheep.

I had a cat for about 10 years... Rasputan. He was my familiar and we communicated on many levels. He came when he was called, he knew all the cues... when I raised my eyebrows, he would jump in my lap and love me up, when I clicked my tongue he would come for food (and try to trip me in the process) and when my brother came over, he would hiss, scratch at him and run and hide... even five years after he had last seen him. LOL.

I have a cat now, Happy, who makes it quite clear that this is HIS house and I will comply with HIS wishes or he will make me PAY. Truth is, this IS his house. He lived here before I did and came with the house. I don't dare argue with him. In return for food and letting him in and out when HE wants in and out, he brings me gifts of small rodents.

My male cat, Jack, sits on the little table in the hallway outside the bathroom door and tries to open the know when I'm in the bathroom. He'll do the same thing on the table by the front door.

My beloved cat "Hobo" who I rescued from the Greyhound bus station when he was a kitten was always aloof until one day when I had been crying and crying over my failed marriage and he got up from where he had been sleeping and came over and layed next to me. It was as if he knew I needed comforting and hence everafter he would come and sleep next to me. That was ten years ago. I will never forget that. Damn! I'm crying now. There sure better be a cat heaven.

Flyer, there are people who believe that domesticated animals are old souls that have come back to show us what unconditional love is.

99% of the time, dog-Candy just keeps her head down while eating, but every once in a while, she'll lift up her head and chew thoughtfully. We were trying to figure out what she's thinking when she does that (and if you knew Candy, attributing her with any thought process is probably stretching her abilities a bit) but we couldn't decide if she was thinking, "Yummm, this is a particularly tasty morsel." or if she was thinking, "What the HECK is THIS?"

And to pull together two other posts, Whiterose's wondering what her cat was "looking at" and Bellalove's cats crying when she leaves the room:

My cat goes off into an empty room and just howls -- HOWLS! If you can sneak up on him, that's all he's doing is sitting there with his head thrown so far back it's almost scary, just howling! If you walk in the room and say, "What are you doing? What's wrong?" He just looks at you and walks away! Weird cat.

A little over 2 years ago, my niece had given me her old, used computer. I set it up in one corner of my living room and placed one of my kitchen chairs in front of it. A couple days after having it, as I was watching TV, I observed my cat, Jigger, who was 13 years old at the time, jump up on the chair, place his paws on the table and stretch himself across and stare at the computer screen. It was as if he was saying, "What on earth does she see in there? I don't see any mice, birds, or crawly bugs, so what's the big deal?" He then jumped down and walked away. LOL :p

LOL BrownEyedLady!!!!! You see? - we are as much of a mystery to them as they are to us!!!

- From the cartoon "Cathy": Dog speaking, "The problem with humans is that their noses are too far from the gound."

- My sister hates it when my dog, Candy, licks me and I said to her, "I really don't like it, but she loves it so much." and then I had a horrible thought, "What if Candy is thinking the exact same thing: 'I really don't like it but she loves it so much!" ????

When Mister Cat is ready to come in, he sits outside and howls and screams and makes these wild animal sounds until I get up and let him in, then he walks through the door with the teeny tinniest little "mew" you've ever heard! It's as if he's yelling, "HUMAN, GET UP! OPEN THIS DOOR! LET ME IN! NOW!" and then he gives the sweetest butter-wouldn't-melt-in-his-mouth, "thank you."

Chatter, I can relate to that, although this is slightly different. One morning while I'm still in bed, but just waking up, my cat sat on the foot of the bed, probably thinking I wasn't awake yet. He started in with a whimper of a meow. I didn't move. Then it became a bit louder. Still I didn't move. Next thing I know, he changes his meowing voice to a sound I had never heard before. I had all to do to keep from laughing out loud. I tried not to let him know I was actually awake, but I did try to glance to see what he was doing. He's now looking up at the ceiling, then looks in my direction. I froze. He comes up, looks me right in the face, so I kept my eyes closed. I nearly jumped when he meowed loudly right in my face. Oh, oh! He got me. Now he knows I'm awake, so he mews softly at me. Just one of those times you had to be there. :p
