Cat's been missing for more than 2 days now ....

Bah, hate those times :( My second cat has been gone for almost 3 days now, and I am obsessing about him being injured or locked in etc. :(

Gotta say, though, that I have only got him since March, and basically got him as a stray whose owners couldn't be found and who had to be placed in a shelter ... so, I have no idea what his "summer" behaviour is like ... (and the weather is nice enough, he's neutered though, so he "shouldn't" really go much on a walkabout ...).

All I know is that he's a very cuddly, friendly cat and REALLY food-obsessed - he always eats, so for him to missing out on his feeding times seems totally out of the ordinary ... :(

Hope he's alright and will show up again ...

My older cat has a history of going for a few days now and then, his longest has been like 12 days and I was totally freaked out then lol .... but he's always found his way home again ...

If he's not shown up by tomorrow, I gonna ring up the vets and the neighborhood!

Good luck for your cat. I never had a cat who ran off, but then I have had only female cats.

I hope your cat comes back :( Not sure why you let it out though if coming back was going to be a problem for you?

My cat is 17, an indoors cat and really healthy and happy...got all her claws, is spayed, dunno why a cat has to go out...?

Maybe I'm missing something.

Guess it's a philosophy question, I live in the countryside and unless you have a rare purebred who has been indoors for generations, so to speak, cats here often are born outdoors and are usually kept outdoors (well, let's say indoors with the option to go out at will lol). Especially when, like me, they are on their own around 14 hrs a day ....

MY cats love it, there are very active, they love the hunt, and NORMALLY they spend the evenings and mornings with me, so it's just out of the ordinary not to come home what upsets me ...

But sure, I know there's a risk of them never to return ... but I wouldn't want to keep a cat indoors that has been used to the great outdoors from kittenhood. I will consider purebred indoor cats though if my cats have gone to their great maker tho :)

Because yes, it does stress me out ... - still, that's not the cats' problem, it's mine ...

/edit: and thanks for your good wishes, Sheila and Charlotte :)

You write HE so I guess that that cat is a male...
Its pretty normal that they wander off for days, especially if there is female cats that are in their heat... he will probably come back by himself...

One of my cats, the one who came with the house... is an outdoor cat. I once felt like you, Charlotte... as all I ever owned were purely indoor cats. I tell you though, if I TRIED to keep Happy inside, he would make everyone MISERABLE. He's an outdoor Tom Cat. He catches mice, rats and moles. He thinks he's a DOG and plays with the two dogs! Heck, he's ALMOST as big as them! LOL He knows not to go in the street when cars are coming and he is.. well... brilliant.

He will disappear for days on end and I simply DO NOT worry about him. He comes back, when he's hungry enough. LOL.

Carazy, let us know when your cat comes back. I know its hard not to worry, but chances are he's fine.

Carazy, my heart goes out to you. ((((( hugs ))))) I remember when your other kitty was gone for so long. It's agonizing wondering where they are.... like having missing children.

In the last two years, I have lost two cats who went missing. The first was Toby. He was given to us by our next door neighbor when he was 6 weeks old. He was always an indoor cat. He never went outside. Not once. One day, my daughter's friend came over and didn't shut the door properly and he apparently got out then. That was two years ago last month. We searched everywhere for him. We put up fliers everywhere and ads in the paper, too. Never found him. I truly believe he's out there somewhere in this neighborhood and living the high life with a new family. I can't even consider the alternative.

The other kitty that has gone missing is Katie. She left last October. She came to me as a stray about 6 yrs ago. And from the moment we took her in, it seems her main objective was to find ways to sneak out. She would usually get out at least twice a month and be gone anywhere from 24 - 72 hours. So, when she got out again in October, I didn't think too much of it. But, she hasn't returned. :(

She and Toby were my darling yellow kitties and I miss them both terribly.

Toby's sister, Pepper, is another of my current cats. She came from a different litter from him.. same mama. My neighbors abandoned her when they moved. She was starving and terrified of all humans and especially fearful of going inside the house. She learned to trust me and eventually we took her in. But, she goes crazy if she's in the house for too long. She meows nonstop until you let her out. So, she spends probably at least 12 hours a day outside. And, she can always be found in our yard. But, I do worry about her. You just never know when the day will come when she will be missing, too. Possibly some child could take her home (even though I do have tags on her collar).

When I was a child, I had a cat (Tiger) who left and was gone for over 6 months and he returned from out of the blue. We never knew where he was. He stayed with us for the rest of his life.

Anyway. I can relate to how awful it feels Carazy. And, I will pray that your kitty will return. He's probably just out doing the tom cat thing. :)

Loving cats means loving one of the most independent creatures on the planet. You have to be able to love them enough to let them go and be free when they want to.

Thanks very much for all your good wishes ....

Unfortunately, the sad news is that my cute cuddly and happy Baron is no more :(

When I went out today calling for him, I ran into a neighbour down the road who told me he knew of a red cat having been run over some way down on one of the main roads ... The not uncommon fate of outdoor cats, even here in the countryside.

When I went there, it was indeed my cuddle monster :( he must have been dead for at least 24 hrs, from what I can tell ...

I buried him in my sister's garden ...

I will miss him, he might not have been the prettiest cat, but he certainly was the most personable, friendly and cuddly cat you could imagine ... I always imagined he thought he was a dog, actually, rolling on his back all the time and wanted his tummy rubbed ... He had the happiest personality you can imagine in a cat, always friendly, constantly purring, always needed to be close to "his" human
....

Yes, I will miss him ... But I am glad I know what happened to him, so I will mourn him but don't have to live in uncertainty ...

Guess the saying fits for cats as well, that the best die young ... He was only a bit more than 2 yrs or so and I feel blessed to have been allowed to look for him ...

I hope the great Maker of cats will provide him with lots of food, cuddles and sunshine to spend eternity in ....

I'm sorry to hear that your cat was run over. Poor guy :(

Same here, lots of cats go missing now that there are so many coyotes coming out of the ravine. I would be more afraid for the cars though since I live in a row of 5 homes completely surrounded by traffic.

I guess you can't stop a cat from escaping accidentally but I know I won't be deliberately allowing mine outdoors unless I'm holding her or she's on a leash.

I'm so sorry about your beloved kitty. I know how that hurts. I still grieve over my beloved "Hobo" and it's been ten years.

Thank you very much for your kind words.

I still gotta cry when I think of my sweet cuddly cat and that he will never come back. Still, I am glad I know what happened, so I don't have to live in futile hope and anticipation of him coming back.

He had the happiest, most positive and friendly attitude and character a cat could have, and I am trying to take some of his "sunshine" character traits and to make them my own ... :) He always seemed so happy and positive, he just never expected anything bad, just cuddles and food, lol ...

I really wish I had some of his sunny disposition lol, so in memory of him, I will try to cultivate it where I can ... and it doesn't come easy to me, especially not now ... But that would be something worthwile, I think, in remembrance of my sweet little Baron :)

Oh, I'm so sorry, Carazy.

I know when my Callie went missing for one night (she came home with a mild leg wound the next day - mine are outdoor during the day and inside at night), I really went out of my mind with worry and concern for her.

It's hard to teach them about cars, especially the male cats (and I always get females for that reason and go through a long harness training ordeal before they get to go out by themselves).

But I still worry about them all the time.

Hugs.
