dave0o0o0 07-11-2005, 12:12 AM I usually wear Curve for men or Claiborne Sport
not really sure about womens' perfumes
greeneyedgirl 07-11-2005, 12:14 AM i also have lots of other things but i only spritz em when i'm in the mood for em
adidas sport for women
beautiful
white linen
white shoulders (also smells a lil like honeysuckle)
navy
i also have body sprays that i love
vanilla
cucumber melon
raspberry
lavendar
SO MANY, GEESH
lol
no wonder i'm always saying i smell good LOL
also, with fruity smells, it's really good to 'layer' them. like, lotion, perfume and maybe a spray, all the same thing. i keep sprays in my purse for a quick FWOOSH in my general vicinity, lol
i HATE IT when women can be smelled 2 blocks before you see em, yuck.
i want my perfume to follow me, not lead me lol
Genevieve 07-11-2005, 12:49 AM I like Annie Oakley perfumes.. they are subtle and come in a variety and mixture of natural scents. Otherwise I'll sometimes wear something called Fresh White Musk Fantasy body spray (found at Walgreen's) I'm like Trace, I don't like perfume to be overpowering. :)
thatgirl 07-11-2005, 01:22 AM Very sexy, yet light...

Charlotte 07-11-2005, 02:58 AM I guess my tastes area little different than the others here.
I tend to use one of two products, either Chanel No.5 or else I mist my whole body with a scented oil from The Body Shop called Africa Spa.
I've tried White Linen before, not really my style.
I think the nicest "fresh" scented spray is Colors of Benetton (they gave me an umbrella when I first bought it :D lol did they expect dark clouds to follow me while wearing their product?)
Also, as a teenager I was addicted to Poison.
Hmm what else. Oh yeah, I used Escape a lot in my 20's.
I'm very happy with the classic Chanel No.5 overall.
joelstrouble 07-11-2005, 03:19 AM Hypnotic Poison
au thè blanc from BVLGARI (wearing that one right now)
Naomi Cambel (the first one)
On men I like Cologne that doesn't have to much smell, I like a "clean" smell on men.
whiterose 07-11-2005, 05:50 AM The one fragrance I get more compliments on is White Diamonds. Recently, tried some Arpege my mother gave me and I really like that as well.
Kathy, I read somewhere once that men are attracted to fragrances containing vanilla. Not sure if that's true, but thought I'd throw that in there. ;)
fos4snt 07-11-2005, 06:30 AM I'm not a big scent person.. I like a single dab of Chanel 5 or a very light spritz (in the air and I walk through it LOL) of Chloe.
I actually really LOVE the smell of the Oil of Olay Quench moisturizer (with toner, which really does make your skin glow!) and secret deoderant. Litical says I have the supersonic smeller, cuz more than a spritz in the air of perfume and I can smell it ALL Day and it drives me nutty.
On guys, I like Old Spice (always have, always will) and also Litical's Axe Voodoo. MmMmMm.

i LOVE this stuff, it has lil sparkles in it and smells kinda like a cookie to me!!! :D
i also have this phermone stuff, smells like watermelon on me. it's just an oil that you apply to your wrists with a glass wand. lil tiny bottle, got it from one of those 'fun' parties ;)
Chatterbox 07-11-2005, 12:55 PM I wear Charlie. Yep, the stuff that costs $12.00 at Walgreen's but goes on sale for $5.00!!! What can I say? I love it! My perfume before Charlie cost $140 an ounce, but they stopped making it, and in my desperate search for a new scent, I found Charlie! (LOL)
I get lots of compliments on it, and three different times, I have stopped women in public places to say, "Excuse me, but what is that perfume you're wearing? It's wonderful." ALL THREE said, "Charlie"!!!
Another big plus, it's so cheap, I can spray it on my linens, in my room, squirt it on light bulbs, wherever; and I keep a bottle in my car and squirt it into the airvents to camoflage the stuffy smell.
I envy people, like GreenEyedGirl, that can enjoy several perfumes. I can't. It takes me years to find one that I love and then I just don't enjoy wearing anything else.
La la la la la la la la Charlie!
BellaLove 07-11-2005, 01:02 PM I'm ready for a change and want a new cologne or perfume...nothing to heavy..something light and sexy...
I'm a perfume freak!! I would have to say that 'Pure Tiffany' is definitally my favorite choice for light and sexy. 'Pleasures' is very nice too!! If your looking for more affordable scents I would go for 'Dream' or 'Heaven' from the Gap. :D
Chatterbox 07-11-2005, 01:07 PM Kathy, check out the Victoria's Secret's perfumes, too.
fos4snt 07-11-2005, 02:47 PM i LOVE this stuff, it has lil sparkles in it and smells kinda like a cookie to me!!! :D

Smells like a cookie to me, too, Trace!! LOL
I think if I bought any phermone stuff, Litical would have a heart attack. Yesterday in the car he was lookin' at me all ginormous pupiled and whatnot and he said, "God, Melanie. You must be a phermone FACTORY or something, because I just can NOT get enough of you!" and then started kissin my shoulder while I'm drivin' and I'm just like  WOW!
Yeah... no wanna givem heart attack!!! LOL

Charlotte 07-11-2005, 05:22 PM What is that scented cream that Oprah said she wears, with green tea in it?
I wonder whether it really smells as good as everyone tells her it does.
Silkybunny65 07-11-2005, 05:41 PM KathyW, I wore Angel by Thierry Mugler for a long time and I had a gentlemen in an ATM line tell me "You smell so good you make me want to cheat on my wife" I laughed and told him the name of the perfume and told him to buy some for his wife and tell her you love her. He gave me a huge and told me I was an angel. Everytime I wear it I think of him. :0)
Chatterbox 07-11-2005, 06:27 PM Yes, Kathy, I agree with SilkyBunny, definitely check out "Angel" (I think it's sold exclusively at Bloomingdale's???) but be sure to test it! On some people it smells like heaven and on others it stinks like hell!!! :p
Oh yeah, and a reminder ... never, never, never make a decision to purchase a perfume because it smells so nice when you first walk out of the store into the fresh air. EVERYTHING smells good when you first step out into the air! I have made a few regrettable perfume purchases because I said, "Oh, this smells great!!" and returned to the store to buy. Now, I don't buy perfume until I've tested it, worn it home, AND woken up in it (some perfumes hang on like an old stink and I don't like that).
Another thing to look for is how long it lasts on you. I love "Romance" by Ralph Lauren, but even the real perfume simply would not "stay" on me.
And another warning, I tried buying a Victoria's Secret perfume from e-bay, and it was a stinky, stinky knock-off!
ravenglow 07-11-2005, 07:55 PM My 2 everyday scents are either some Orange Blossom perfume by L'occtaine that my friend Maria gave me :D , or Dream Angels Heavenly by V.S.
Heavenly goes great with the vanilla body powder I have and some yummy-smelling body butters I use. Gotta love that cookie smell gals! I looooove to smell like cookies!
If I want to smell extra sexy, I wear my Givenchy Amarige or Arden Beauty by Elizabeth Arden which men always comment on!
Science Goddess 07-11-2005, 08:58 PM I haven't been big on perfume for many years. Years ago, all of those 'designer' perfumes took on SUCH overwhelming tones. Most of them still make my sinuses swell up! That goes for men's colognes, too.
For a few years, I wore gardenia oil almost exclusively. I had a couple of other essential oils that I'd wear occasionally. I got bored with the oils and went on a mission to find some perfume that I could wear.
I came up with a perfume called Clean. There are now a couple of versions, one a little stronger for nighttime, but the original is my favorite.
I do like some of the classics, like Chanel No. 5, and I also like Tresor. A friend of mine wears Bvlgari Green Tea and one of these days I'm going to try some on to see if it works with my chemistry.
I'm out of the loop when it comes to current men's colognes. I really do like the way a guy smells without cologne (no, I don't like eau de B.O. I'm a bit of a nature girl but not THAT much!). I know that this is going to sound really funny, but I love a guy that smells like soap and uses one of those (I think it's) Gillette scented deoderants. This just smells so clean to me.
I'd like to suggest that no matter WHAT you wear, remember: the perfume you wear should be like your aura and surround only you - it should only be detectable when someone is close to you. It shouldn't be on one side of the room when you're on the other, and it certainly shouldn't be in the room when you've already left! You tend to build up a 'tolerance' of sorts to something that you wear all the time. You will not smell it at the same strength as those that aren't wearing it. It is rare that even a close friend or co-worker will tell you when you're wearing too much scent. When in doubt, less is best. If you're wearing a lot of perfume all the time, chances are that people are making gagging faces to each other after you pass by.
Lastly, please, do not spray on perfume just before entering the office, the GYM (or an aerobic class, yoga, etc.), a movie theater, etc. The only place you should be wearing a lot of perfume is to a hot sweaty crowded bar or concert or something like that.
Also, keep in mind that lots of people are allergic to a lot of perfumes. I almost choked to death one night when the woman next to me at the movies went to the bathroom right before the movie started and sprayed on perfume while she was in there. The theater was SRO.
MerAlove23 07-11-2005, 08:59 PM I love Clinique's Happy..... I also Like Lancome's Tresor
I LOVE bath and body works... Sweet Pea, Warm Vanilla Sugar, and Plumeria are my fav's!!!
Chatterbox 07-11-2005, 09:01 PM Good point, Science Goddess!!!! And PLEASE don't test the perfumes in the Duty Free Shop before getting on a plane or squirt yourself on the plane!!!

**LMFAO** OMG! That sounds like a nightmare!
Chatterbox 07-11-2005, 09:08 PM It is. I know, I've done the Duty Free Shop thing!!!!!!!! ROFL LOL Not only is it horrible for your fellow passengers, but you make yourself sick as well! OMG, why can't I stop myself from admitting these things?
foxyeyes 07-11-2005, 11:39 PM I currently wear HAIKU Awakenings by Avon. I can't describe the smell but i love it and have had many compliments on it.
Also, have any of you heard about the study that found that the scent of grapefruit on women made them appear to be 6-7 years younger?.....now if i could only find grapefruit perfume..sigh check the articlehere (http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0605/237431.html) :)
Sdoah1972 07-11-2005, 11:51 PM Good point, Science Goddess!!!! And PLEASE don't test the perfumes in the Duty Free Shop before getting on a plane or squirt yourself on the plane!!!
Oh Gawd! It is so totally a nightmare. My flight to Australia was my first and I did not expect to get plane sick, but I did. The descent liked to have killed me and everytime we would begin the descent some crazy woman would spray perfume and make me want to ralph! If I had been able to get out of my seat I would have hunted down that woman and barffed on her!
I've always worn the same fragrance since I was 16 and I can't wear anything else. Opium by Yves St. Laurent.

This is really an interesting little article Foxy..thank you! Cool..I'll let you know if I track down any cologne with a grapefruit scent..hehe.
Wow..you guys have all given me some great ideas here...I don't like heavy scents either...just something subtle and understated. I'll have to get a list together with all your ideas before I go out shopping this weekend and I'll let you know what I end up with!
I was using Realities (almost out now) and another cologne called "Blue" (I think)...also really like colognes like Ralph Lauren's "Romance" and I love some of the old classics as well. I can never think of what I want to look for when I go to buy a new cologne...so all of your ideas and thoughts are much appreciated....and I agree....I don't like any cologne that's heavy and makes other people gag...I've been around people who wear wayyyyy to much (some of those French cologne...umm..well let's just say they aren't for me)...and how do you tell someone that they are wearing to much cologne without hurting their feelings...ugh...I'm not good at that sorta stuff.
Thanks again Guys...and keep'em coming!! :)
Jo-Admin 07-12-2005, 02:57 AM Hey there. My son got me this huge bottle of perfume, and I really disliked the way it smelled in the bottle, or how it smelled when I very first put it on. However, because I had so darn much of it, I put some on one day when I was going to town.
In the pay line at the grocery store, the checkout girl said "Oh my gosh, something smells so good...what is that"? Turns out it was me! (makes me think I must have had too much on). But anyway, I got three different compliments that day....anyhow, it's Romance by Ralph Lauren. It's a bit strong when you first put it on, but after about 10 minutes or so...it's just pretty darn good. ;)

Flyer 07-13-2005, 01:25 AM Estee Lauder's "Knowing". I've been wearing it for 10 years now. I expect any day now they won't be making it and I'll have to find something else. Even now they don't put it out anymore. I have to ask for it and they go get it from a drawer. I like something that's light and fresh smelling. Oh, yeah, and that I'm not allergic to. A salesgirl once sprayed "Opium" on me as I walked through the store and I had an itchy rash for 3 days.

Knowing is a good one Flyer...I hate when they discontinue something I really like..Estee Lauder tends to do this alot.. :( ...yeah Opium does that to me too...and a couple of others..not sure why...something in it doesn't agree with me...same thing with White Linen (Estee Lauder)..

I've been wondering about this one Kitty! I tested it once and really liked it...I also like Elizabeth Arden's "Green Tea" cologne in the summertime...light and refreshing. I'll have to give this one a try. :)
Desert Spring 07-14-2005, 01:41 AM Bergamot spray-on from the Body Shop. Nice and light.
jeffy-weffy 07-14-2005, 01:51 AM Well I tried to get my gf some perfume, unfortunately she is allergic to it. :( Does anyone know where to get any hypoallergenic perfume?
Science Goddess 07-14-2005, 12:15 PM Well I tried to get my gf some perfume, unfortunately she is allergic to it. :( Does anyone know where to get any hypoallergenic perfume?
Try some essential oils, available at The Body Shop, Bare Escentuals and actually many are available at your local health food store (but they don't always smell the same as the ones created just to wear). Jasmine, gardenia, freesia, grapefruit, etc. A person only needs to wear a teeny bit of these oils so a small vial lasts forever! And it easily fits in a girl's purse. Both stores can also mix up lotions, scrubs, etc. to match. Also, Bare Escentuals used to custom blend oils for you but I don't know if they still do that.
As my earlier post mentions, I tend to have allergic-type reactions to a lot of popular perfumes and colognes. The one I wear most often, Clean - the original citrusy one, does not have any of those overpowering, trendy tones and does not make my sinuses swell up.
Also, try Sephora. One of the saleswomen there helped me pick out Clean based on what I told her about my reaction. There were a couple more 'clean' smelling fragrances that she suggested but I forget what they were.
I have a girl friend who simply cannot tolerate most perfumes, colognes or even oils. I think that the one thing that she found that she can wear is vanilla.
Loucine 07-14-2005, 12:31 PM I hate heavy perfume that lingers on. I used to use rose oil that I found in a shop called Bodhi Tree in L.A. and always bought enough supplies to last until my next trip. After my pregnancy my own perfume made me sick.
Now I use very subtle perfumes from l'Artisan Parfumeur. In winterI use musk and blackberries, in summer sometimes fig sometimes mimosa.
I know it sounds strange to smell like a fig tree but I've always used special perfumes and I have alway heard everyone tell me "Aline, you smell so good"
So it's good to try new and unusual perfumes.
edit: forgot the men :( as for mister, I don't like men who wear perfumes. I detect their natural smell with time and it determines the amount of chemistry I have in common with them. I'm extremely sensitive to that. Once I detect the smell and I like it, I'm the kind who sticks her nose in their armpit and stays there LOL
If I don't like it, I just simply don't get turned on.
ps:By natural smell I don't mean onion smeling sweat, but that special smell that each individual has.

Foxy - I don't know if they still carry it, but Bath & Body Works used to have grapefruit oil in stock and would custom blend fragrances for massage oil, lotions, etc. I got massage oil with grapefruit and eucalyptus - very invigorating!
...........................
Back in high school, I went on a field trip to Chicago and some friends & I went shopping. We got back on the bus with a million samples. My friend opened one and said, "Yuck!" I smelled it and I loved it. It was Chloe. I have worn it ever since. I tried a couple of others - Georgio and another by some celebrity, whom I can't remember - but I always got compliments on Chloe and now I stick to it. I love to find those gift sets with the body wash and lotions!
I think your body chemistry has a lot to do with it. Just because you like how something smells on someone else doesn't mean it will necessarily smell good on you. Of course, you do need to like it too! I hate citrus smelling colognes - especially on men - but I have smelled them on certain people where it is pleasant.
I LOVE Drakkar Noir on Jeremy!

Chloe has been around forever and it's still very popular...it's a good one....also, the grapefruit sent I am going to try...it sounds like it will have a fresh and clean smell..yet still sexy...that's what I want.
kathyw 07-16-2005, 09:55 PM Ok...I had FUN shopping today...here's what I ended up with (for now..hehe)...I took Foxy's idea of the Grapefruit Cologne...well actually it's pink grapefruit body mist and pink grapefruit shower gel.
Also, decided on Davidoff Cool Water Eau De Toilette Spray...(this one I've tried before and I really like it..also very light)...

I've been hooked ever since. A couple of my fav's are Vanille Abricot and Coeur De Vahine; you can mix their fragrances too, like wear 2 together, I sometimes do. Have fun! :)

Right now, I am addicted to this fascinating, exotic, sensual fragrance by Jennifer Lopez. I spray it on my long hair so that I can just grab a lock and sniff whenever I need a fix. It burns down to a sultry musk. Muchas gracias, Jennifer!
Pink by Victoria's Secret is a great light fragrance.
My favorite of all time is Lauren, by Ralph Lauren.
kathyw 07-20-2005, 08:04 AM WOW!! Thanks for so many great responses...so many new colognes I want to try now (hehe)!! I found this article today...thought some of you might be interested in reading a little more about fragrances and chemicals .. :)

Breathing Easy: 'Covered in chemicals' column a favorite
MARK R. SNELLER
living@tucsoncitizen.com
Over the years of writing Breathing Easy, this writer has a number of favorite columns. Here is one of them.
"We're covered in chemicals"
A little fragrance is all right. Too much is all wrong.
Historically, the ancient Greeks used perfumed headrests for the treatment of insomnia. The Romans went to extremes and burned feathers and leaves to stimulate respiration.
In today's world, the average man or woman is at the bottom of a vast marketing system. As a result, we are covered literally, from head to foot, with untested or poorly tested fragrances, perfumes, dyes, preservatives and body lotions.
A popular shampoo for women has 22 ingredients, plus fragrance, as listed on the plastic container. Another brand has as many as 40 ingredients. The male version has somewhat fewer than this number, plus fragrance added.
The typical bar soap will have as many as 18 ingredients, plus fragrance. The fragrances in bar soap and shampoo become volatile (airborne) to be inhaled in the shower. The effect is enhanced by the chloroform and chloramines and smell of chlorine that comes from the warm-water tap.
Our heads and bodies are dried with towels washed in laundry detergent with fragrance with a little chlorine bleach thrown in and placed in a clothes dryer with an anti-static product plus fragrance.
Skin care lotion has 24 ingredients, plus perfume.
A popular self-tanning lotion has 34 ingredients.
After showering, most people will use deodorant with about 10 ingredients plus fragrance, and possibly talc, with fragrance.
Hair spray has 18 ingredients plus a propellant. Not only that, but it also has an acrylate copolymer thickening agent, a form of plastic that is dissolved in an organic solvent.
Many people will use body lotion or body talc after the shower. Men will use aftershave. Virtually all of these are scented. Makeup frequently contains formaldehyde.
Toothpaste may contain 10 ingredients plus flavor enhancer; mouthwash can have 12 ingredients plus "flavor."
It's easy to see how our lungs, hair, skin and clothing come in contact with an ocean of solvents, chelating agents, emulsifiers, dyes, perfumes and enhancers.
We are exposed to as many as a hundred or more chemicals and a half-dozen fragrances and we're not even out of the bathroom yet. Then we get to put on our clothing that has been washed and dried in fragrance products, not counting the sheets and pillow cases of our bedding.
Are we involved in something that is bigger than we are?
Are we losing the war for better respiratory health because somebody else is telling us what is good for us? Are we blaming the pollen and mold for our breathing problems, when the answer is in our bathroom?
Not all chemicals or scented products are bad. In many cases, there might be an improvement in products over those of past years.
If the reader has concerns, it might not hurt to stop using certain products altogether. After all, if the reader doesn't like what is on TV, he or she can turn it off.
