Granny, 70, marries 31-year-old toyboy

A pensioner was on honeymoon today after tying the knot with her toyboy lover, who is 39 years her junior.

Edna Townsend, 70, married Simon Martin, 31, in a ceremony at Weston-super-Mare register office at the weekend after a 30-month romance.

Despite the age gap, Mr Martin, who has never had a girlfriend before, said it was love at first sight.

The organist, who suffers from a severe hearing impediment, proposed to Ms Townsend under Weston-super-Mare pier on Valentine's Day this year.

The couple, who live in Worle, Somerset, said the age gap was not a consideration because they both have "artistic temperaments".

They said they have had some "funny" comments from people but on the whole the reaction to their marriage has been good.

Ms Townsend, who worked as an engineer until she retired at 65, had already had a long relationship with a younger man.

The grandmother of three lived with the man, who was 10 years her junior, until he died aged just 52.

She said she had settled for being single but her chance meeting with Mr Martin had made her change her mind.

Unfortunately the "journalist," knowing exactly what s/he was doing, put "granny" and "toyboy" in the headline to contrast the happy married couple in the most mismatched and distasteful way possible.

Thanks to them.

I'm sure the article means hearing loss. You don't necessarily have to hear to work with music! Classical composer Ludwig van Beethoven wrote some of his greatest music after he had gone deaf.

Now, not to hijack the thread and get it sent to the music forum. :) I agree with the opinions above. It sounds like it should be a fine and happy marriage. :) Now if the Daily Mail would just lose. . .that. . .headline. . .

I logged onto the Daily Mail for info regarding the bomb in London when I saw this story.

Yep the idiots. Always gotta make something unique seem freakish.
