Jo-Admin 07-19-2005, 07:29 PM Okay, not down to the last detail or anything..but what things can you most normally find in your fridge?
In mine you most normally can find
Milk and butter (those are givens, right)
Low-Fat yogurt, vanilla and peach
Propel Sports water/drink
Pitcher of filtered water
Lettuce
Pop and Kool-Aid (I do have children, heh)
Cheese! (mmmmm, cheese)
A gazillion salad dressings! Why don't I throw those out?
A ton of condiments
Turkey, ham and roast beef deli meat for sandwiches
Cream cheese (garden vegetable for bagels)
Some sort of moldy leftover in a tupperware container
I think those are the things I can normally count on finding in there....should I say "the regulars".
How bout you guys?
Jo-Admin 07-19-2005, 07:37 PM OMG....I just looked in my fridge, and who knew that little drawer in the bottom was for vegetables! LOL I wondered where my cucumbers had gone when Dad put away the groceries.
Add to my list....three shrunk up wrinkly tiny cucumbers, what apparently used to be a tomato, and a bag of carrots that have apparently been planning to take up permanent residence, because they have grown roots.
Yeah, I bet y'all wanna come over for dinner now, right?
(okay edit..I embellished. The cucumbers are not really shrunk and wrinkly, they are just yucky. I just know as an admin someone would come call me out on that and say..."Hmmm...I didn't know cucumbers shrunk and wrinkled. I have never seen that happen. " LOL )
1love 07-19-2005, 07:40 PM You have moldy stuff in a tupperware container!!!? I can't imagine..... ;)
So, I have......
eggs
cheese
ham
turkey
lettuce
tomatoes
peppers
milk
butter
flavored water
yogurt
fruit
pickles
salad dressing
condiments
a bottle of wine that I have had for a LONG time (unopened)
a few other things......
Jo-Admin 07-19-2005, 07:42 PM Mmmmmm..wine! I have a bottle of some kind of cheap melon-flavored wine in there. No clue what I am saving it for.
I did notice though...
STAN! I don't have any ice cream in my freezer. :( *pout pout*
Chatterbox 07-19-2005, 07:47 PM I can't believe you actually did this!!!!
Okay:
Flour
Cereal
Opened but uncooked pasta
Unopened Johnnie Cake Meal
(I have this fear of bugs in these things.)
Wait I have to go look
Eggs
Jelly
Chicken
Better than Buillion - Chicken flavor of unknown age
Better than Buillion - Beef flavor of unknown age
Yellow mustard that's turned kinda brown but still tastes good (in that squeeze bottle that I always forget to shake)
Ketchup --- to old to taste, to much of an unknown quantity to throw away yet.
Soy Sauce
2 jars of pickled beets because they were both leaking when I brought them home from the store and I should throw them out but I'm too cheap so I figure the refrigeration will hold back any bacteria growing in them.
1 jar of nasty looking green olives that I won't throw away because I can rinse them off before I eat them.
1 bunch of really, really old, limpy celery [Note to self, throw that out]
Diet-Caffeine-Free-Coke which I buy in those "fit in the refrigerator" cases but I have to take them out because they don't fit in my refrigerator.
One jar of saki of unknown age that I bought because it was soooo coool - blue with a gold cap that looks like a rice-paddy-worker hat.
2 1/2 gallons of 2% milk (I love milk! :D )
And there's more stuff, but right now I have to go .... really looking in there has made it clear to me that I HAVE to clean out my fridge!!!! That doesn't mean I'm going to clean it out now, but it does mean I'm not going to look any more! :p
Jo-Admin 07-19-2005, 07:50 PM You know..one time I opened the fridge and found...the TV remote!
Id been looking for that thing everywhere! *grumble grumble*
thatgirl 07-19-2005, 08:01 PM What's Johnnie Cake Meal?
I keep the same type of flour stuff in my fridge for the same reason.
jesique 07-19-2005, 08:04 PM Being a college student...with a roommate as lazy as i am...there are some totally NASTY things in our fridge!
Like 4 glass containers with lids that i took out about two months ago and asked my roommate to clean out because they were old and moldy. They sat on the counter for a week...and the next thing i knew...they were back in the fridge!!! GROSS!!! So those are in there still...
Theres some yucky guacamole dip that i thought would be good but wasn't...but there's so much that i can't throw it out.
Half a jug of cranberry juice. Yum!
Half a box of stale pizza from pizza hut.
Tons of condiments that will never be used...as the only condiment i use is Ranch Dressing.
3 bottles of Ranch dressing. One that im currently using. One of a brand i don't like so won't use unless its an emergancy. and One that is mostly empty but i don't have the heart to throw away.
Half a lemon thats all shriveled up. I was going to use it in the dishwasher but forgot. Maybe its still good!
Half a bottle of champagne that i was saving for a special occasion (really bad cheap champagne)...but my roommate opened it and decided she didn't like it so she put it back in the fridge. Grrr.
Half a wheel of homemade cheese. Honestly...the best cheese ive EVER had!!! Yum!
One diet coke that neither of us will drink...cuz diet is gross. And its generic.
Salsa! More than one container...this is Texas after all!
Tons of other stuff too...but thats just the interesting stuff.
Nadine.

I keep the same type of flour stuff in my fridge for the same reason.
Hello, fellow bug-phobic -- no no lets rephrase that: bug-cautious-person! Johnnie Cake Meal is a New England thing. Whenever anyone comes to visit me, one box of Johnnie Cake Meal is the price of admission to Casa Chatterbox! You mix the corn meal with water, salt, and a pinch of sugar, get the griddle real hot, melt a ton of butter on it, and drop the Johnnie cakes on. Turn down the heat. 6 minutes on each side until they're brown and crispy on the outside and hot and juicy on the inside! YUMMMMMMM
Uh oh, I'm making myself hungry!

irparis 07-21-2005, 11:15 PM Unfortunately, I get into a cooking mood at times, at least when the weather isn't so bloody hot that I can use the oven/stove. The thing is I don't know how to cook for one, so I have alot of spanish food in my fridge which I pop in the nuker.
parboiled rice (I make it in the rice cooker, like 3 cups worth to last me two weeks)
pink beans that have already been seasoned and cooked
beef stew w/veggies
chicken stew w/veggies
1% milk as I can't tolerate anything higher than that
Wheatabix
ginger ale
wheat bread (lasts longer in the fridge)

beignet mix (I love this and have had several people bring me the mix from new orleans)
apples, peaches
peppers/onions/cilantro/green onions/lettuce/potatoes
italian dressing, its the only kind I like
egg noodles
butter
1 egg
chocolate chip cookies...soft and chunky
water in the brita (but now I have a water cooler so won't be doing that much)
spagetti sauces (brought some didn't like, been giving it away)
pancake mix and some already mix with water, saves me time for later
ravioli that I cook tonight and forgot they were on the stove, so they've broken apart and lost most of their guts...cheese/herbs
freezer: salmon, more chicken legs, wings, steak, sausages, broccoli, carrots, corn (the only veg i will eat), ice cubes (I take the ice cubes out of the buckets and put them in a zip lock bags for easy access), frozen ravioli, pot pies, pizza and more chicken
I tend to buy chicken at this particular store which always has a sale on it for like 29-60 cents a pound, in 5 lb bags.
Thank goodness I'm having a dinner for friends in a couple of weeks, I need to get rid of all this chicken before I fly away. Does anyone have a good recipe to use on a bag of chicken wings I have? It was sale 25 cents a 3 lb bag.... :D

Jo-Admin 07-22-2005, 01:54 AM "ravioli that I cook tonight and forgot they were on the stove, so they've broken apart and lost most of their guts..." LOL! Your not the only forgetful one!
I have a cake that you can serve with your gutless raviolis. Tonight I baked the first layer of a strawberry cake (I had to bake the layers separate because my Dad apparently hid my other cake pan...long story).
Anyway, I baked the first layer, got it out, put in the second layer, set the timer and left. Timer goes of, I go to get it out, and someone turned the oven off (most likely once again, my Dad). I holler at everyone within sight, reheat oven, replace cake...do NOT set timer...and well, you can guess the rest of the story. There was enough smoke in that kitchen, you'd have thought I had a bonfire going.
manofmisteree 07-22-2005, 04:30 AM ice cold creek water. ;)

Well, then, I'm in good company. As I get older I recognize the fact that my "little grey cells" are dying rather rapidly...I just hope there's enough of them to know not to take a dump where I sit or I'm going to be put in a nursing home by the time I'm 50.... :D
