Carazy 08-07-2005, 01:08 PM ... new kitten :o
Ok, as I lost my lovely Baron to a road accident about a month ago, I was swearing then and there to myself, no more "second cats" ...
Guess what, I am maybe about to change my mind ...
Met a lovely pair of kitten (brothers) in a shelter - and am actually considering taking them.
The thing is, I am not sure I am doing my darling cat Rana a favour - he's been so relaxed and affectionate the past few weeks that I feel he might actually resent some "new" cats in his territory at this stage :(
The kitten are adorable, 12 weeks, very affectionate and curious, one blue, one red tabby - and they were purring non-stop the whole 2 hours I was visiting them ... - but, how will my Rana react? He's happy with the status-quo...
Decisions, decisions ..... :p
BrownEyedLady65 08-07-2005, 10:14 PM I think you should go for the gusto and get the new kitten. You've spent an hour with it and sounds like you really are contemplating getting it. It's only a month since you lost Baron, therefore Rana should adapt nicely. Rana might be jealous for a few days, but animals can sense when a cat is just a kitten. Therefore, unless Rana is a very mean, agressive cat, I'm sure she will accept the new kittens, just her time and don't force the kittens on her. You might also want to separate Rana from the kittens for a few days before introducing them.
Good Luck!! :)
Carazy 08-09-2005, 03:27 PM Thanks Lady :)
And you are right, I have decided to take those two kitten :)
So much for saying "never again" lol.
Rana is not really mean and agressive, more nervous and sensitive and I suspect he will try to escape outside a lot to avoid having to deal with the kitten ... - so I guess I will have to try hard and with all treats and tricks to lure him back in and to show him he's still my No. 1 :D
Ah well, gonna find out next weekend how bad it will be lol ...
fos4snt 08-10-2005, 08:17 AM That's terrific, carazy! Two kittens! :D
I think the only thing that might cause issues is them all being male. ;) Male cats are very territorial, in my experience. Already my Happy cat is throwing fits about the new kitten, cuz he's a boy. LOL. (And they've only met briefly. New kitten, High Jinx, is in quarantine until his upper respiratory infection subsides.)
But, two kittens together will be a LOT of fun. ENJOY! And, congratulations on the new additions to your lil family.

Carazy 08-10-2005, 01:10 PM Tnx Fos :D And congrats on your new family addition too, your new kitten looks totally adorable, too :D
Actually, I am biased towards male cats, don't know why though, but they seem actually seem more relaxed to me than female cats lol.
Funny thing, one of my sisters basically prefers female cats (she got 5 plus one male stray that's hanging around), whereas my other sister, like me, prefers male cats. She got one male, one female atm, but she only had males in the past and from what she said I think she would be inclined to males again in the future ;)
As for the territorial aspect, I intend to get the kitten neutered as soon as possible, probably when they are around 20 weeks old or so, hope that will resolve too much conflict ...
fos4snt 08-10-2005, 05:27 PM We neuter before 6 months around here, too. It definitely keeps them from spraying!
My preference is male cats, too... its just been my experience that, neutered or no, they don't do well together if you have too many in one house. Of course, that's INDOOR cats only. My Happy cat goes out and my guess is that High Jinx probably will, too, since he was a stray ~ but we'll see what his temperment is like when he's a lil older. At this point, he's a LOVE muffin... always wantin' attention and lovin'. :D
I hope you enjoy the heck out of these too little fur balls you're acquiring. I'm sure they will be grateful and loving and wonderful additions to your world!

... and my cat Rana is less than pleased, as was to be expected :p
The amazing thing is, they are just sweet and totally non-threatening to him, but yet he seesm scared shitless, instead of showing them who's the boss .... - he just whines and tries to hide outside ...
BrownEyedLady65 08-15-2005, 06:22 AM OMG, Carazy, your new kittens are absolutely adorable. Would have liked to also see the orange tabby's face too. :)
fos4snt 08-15-2005, 06:29 AM Awww!!! They're so darn cute... my lil High Jinx is sitting in my lap staring at the kittens purring. :D Do all male kittens automatically like each other? LOL!
I hope you enjoy every second of their kittenhood... it goes by SO QUICK!!!
Enjoy!

And they are really totally adorable, and they sooo love playing with each other ...
And my cat is at least coming to the stage where they can play around in his vicinity while he stays on his chair or sofa (the past 2 days he basically wanted out as soon as he even saw them, so that is progress :p).
Shame I have to go back to work tomorrow ...
Chatterbox 08-15-2005, 12:33 PM Toooooo precious, Carazy!
