Well U can count me outta the 'most women', I LOVE 'em!!!!!
Saw each one when it was first released and have the extended versions of all 3 on DVD

Even did my (Access) IT project on CGI and especially 'Massive' the software use to create those stunning battle scenes

Then again I am 49 and a total geek/nerd with an undying passion for Sci.fi./fantasy LOL

Hey Wolfie, have you seen/do you own the Ralph Bakshi version of TLOTR?

The animation is very trippy, and it has some dark, atmospheric moments. I think it is worth at least one viewing, just for completists. :)

Of course, depending on how much freedom you are willing to let the 78 version have, will go a long ways in your grading of it.

Example: http://www.stomptokyo.com/movies/l/lord-of-the-rings-anim.html :p

Yuppers!! Saw it just after it came out in '78 (I know, I am a sad case LOL) ........... At the time the film impressed me, having read the books several times by then, I was doubtful that it could be done in any way other then in animation....... Little did we know then the wonders that CGI would bring :D ............. As yet I don't have my own copy of the film, I have borrowed it a couple of times over the years, although it is something I will aquire at some stage............... It was a great disappointment to me that the second film was never made

I read through the comments on that first link, and I do have to say I agree with all of them!! ..... Then again this film was made in the dark ages LOL

All in all it is worth watching IMO an left a lasting impression.

An aside: My son (who was born in '78) looked just like the animated version of Frodo by the time he was a year old, right down to the furry toes!!! LOL

PS geek fact: Tron made in the '80's was the first, commercial, film to make extensive use of CGI

I've seen parts of them but its out of pure principle and spite since I was forced to read the Hobbit in school and I hated every last fricking page of that book that I was not inclined to enjoy the movies... But I have heard that they are very good...

I think if either her of GEG tell me that they have the Japanese laserdisc boxset of Dawn of the Dead and/or they know of/love Sleepaway Camp, then I might explode.

Hell, just mention Cowboy Bebop and I'll explode. :p
lol.... Shewolf - say you HAVE one of the above :p

On the other hand I have to say Donnie Darko rox :D

Love 'm! love 'm! love 'm!

I read the books before the dvd's were out. Read the Hobbit and all the other books that are related to the story.

Great movies.....love the special effects...love how they made it almost impossible to separate my imagine from what i was seeing. Everything and everybody was just like i had it imagined it to be.

My son who is 5 loves the movies and is mesmerized by the elves. Its so cute to see... :D

I have loved LOR pretty much alllll me life. ;)

I have and own the animated series. I have all three of the newer movies on extended version DVD and can watch them repeatedly and never get bored with them. I anxiously await "The Hobbit," too. :p

Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Mystery girl here. Majorly. My favorite TV show is Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. So, I kid you not about being an addict..

My favorite author is Orson Scott Card (Enders Game series, and many, many more).

But, Lord of the Rings... is absolutely magnificent. Marvelous. A MASTERPIECE.
