I was in class and I was saying that I felt a certain film had a hidden political agenda. The teacher completely humiliated me in front of the class by telling me that I didn't understand the movie and that it was cut and dry. I don't think at a college level it is appropriate to completely bash someone's opinion, just because he isn't intelligent enough to see it my way. I am not saying my way has to be 100% right, but neither is his. Unless you are the director who can prove otherwise things open to dicussion and different intrepetations.

I agree with you. You are entitled to your opinion and as long as you stated it respectfully, he should respect your opinion. Even if he thought you were way out there, he could have addressed it after class one on one.

what movie was it and what did you say about it?
I'm sorry that happened to you..that sucks...*hugs*
Thanks
The Village, the M. Night Shamalyn movie.
As people can probably tell, I like to state my opinion whiter it be popular or not. I do it on here for free. I am paying $22,000 a year to sit in school, so hell yes I am gonna say my opinion there :p

Oh, I think that movie was about the American government and how we have all these "red, yellow, orange" warning colors for terrorism...how they use that to keep us in "the village"..full of fear of the monsters, when in reality there are no monsters, only mankind...hence the colors used in the movie..and basically was a parody on the USA and humanity as a whole....and I read something along those lines after I thought of it on my own from watching the movies in an article about Shamalyn.
What was your take?
I like your take as well...
Mine was along the lines of first of all, it was released in an election year (accident?)....and so the girl comes out of the village. The guy gives her the medicine, but let's her go back. This makes me think that the government knows about these people, but is supposed to keep it on the "hush hush". If they didn't know, they wouldn't just let her go she seemed sick/crazy. So i felt it was supposed to tell the audience...if the government can let these people live in their own world and die b/c they dont have modern medicine, if they can harbor a secret that large as a whole village...what else are they harboring?? terrorists etc.

yo that's an excellent point..and your prof. just dismissed you? wth????
He was like "The goverment knew she was in there. You didn't understand it right. You're missing the point of the movie. These people just wanted to start their own society to get away from their old life"
I wanted to yell in his face and be like "RAHHHH!!" I think our opinions make much more sense than his if you ask me.

That Prof is totally in the wrong! This is America and we all have the right to our opinion and the expression of that opinion. My nephew had a high school government teacher last year who completely bullied anyone who did not think as he did. CJ finally told him that free speech was protected in the Bill of Rights and that meant students who didnt agree with the teacher too! Never had a problem the rest of the year.

Well, your professor commited the cardinal sin of teaching, "killing the spirit of the student." There are misfits in every profession. Pity him that even though he has knowledge, he does not know much about teaching.
I am sorry that you went through that... :(

He thinks he is cool and knows everything b/c he hosts a local access show...if he really knew EVERYTHING about entertainment he could do it full time. School is really getting on my nerves this last year.

Hang in there. A professor who has to humiliate a student is not an educator.

I think that the village was privately owned land. Were the guards not private security guards?
Of course you have the right to state your own opinion. I think that all educated beings are political beings so it is just natural that everyone's political views permeate their work and behavior.

I think it also touched on what you can do in this country if you have enough money and power.
