Jennifer 10-17-2005, 06:26 PM I love shoes especially high heels but, I have a limit on what I will spend on a pair of heels. I saw a pair of heels that I fell in love with they were Giuseppe Zanotti, They were definitely sexy heels andf my husband loved the way they looked on me. The problem was that they were over $600. I told my husband that I didn't care how good they looked on my feet I wasn't spending that kind of money on a shoe.
He has been bugging me to buy them and I just can't bring myself to do it. I know I would get a lot of use out of them becuase we do go to a lot of formal events but, I think I would look just fine in a $100 pair of heels.
So I am trying to find out whats your limit and should I splurge or not? Hubby says yes and I say not sure
CabinFever 10-17-2005, 06:30 PM OMG...there is NO WAY that I would spend that much on shoes....not even on some serious backpacking boots, and def. not on heels.
But, I wouldn't spend $100 on heels either...unless they were for a very very special event...well ok...maybe if they were some to-die-for sexy boots and fit really really well...maybe.
But we all have our priorities and if you absolutely LOVE these shoes and can afford them....well, you only live once right? ;)
Harrison 10-17-2005, 07:04 PM Hahaha,
This is funny coming after our thread on being frugal.
No, $100 is the upper limit for me for shoes. Maybe $115.
$600 does not seem like a good value to me. The only way they'd be a good value is if they were from a top-notch manufacturer that had a reputation for making things that lasted forever.
If the shoes are still cool in 2011, then they're a good deal.
Otherwise, skip 'em.
LADave 10-17-2005, 07:05 PM Your husband sounds like a very special man. I bet most hubby's would be irritated if their wives came home with a $600 pair of heels, and your man is urging you to get them--wow!
You like the shoes, your husband likes the shoes, your husband wants you to buy the shoes, and you'd get a lot of use out of the shoes. . .
As they say. . .
if the shoe fits. . .wear it! :D
P.S. I don't put a huge amount of $ into clothes. Most I've spent on shoes is a pair of tassel loafers that were about $250.
TxCaramel 10-17-2005, 07:11 PM you could find something similar at a discount store for alot cheaper. i have a habit of going overboard with shoes. i was able to buy some jimmy choos for $275 five months ago, it had been marked down a couple of times, original price was $565. I cant spend as much anymore, the most i will spend is a $100 or less now
Harrison 10-17-2005, 07:22 PM .... i was able to buy some jimmy choos for $275 five months ago, it had been marked down a couple of times, original price was $565. I cant spend as much anymore, the most i will spend is a $100 or less now
That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! $565??? In about 5 weeks, think how many Thanksgiving turkey dinners that would buy for some poor folks! lol :D
fos4snt 10-17-2005, 07:52 PM  I have always, always been foot thrifty. I can't ever seem to justify spending more than $30 on a pair of shoes and never have... until last summer (2004). When I needed some good, comfy sandals and ended up buying these weird looking things made by Keen. $80 and I said "OUCH" but they were cool and COMFORTABLE.
Well, a year later and I've abused these sandals something crazy... worn them everywhere, to amusement parks, tubing down the Potomac, all over the place these things have gone with me and they look, I swear, BRAND new. Still.
So, I would definitely, definitely spend $80 on the SHOE version, as they have already proven themselves sturdy, comfortable and stylin'.
That is, however, assuredly the UPPER end of my limit for shoe spending. No more. No way.

GoldieCat 10-17-2005, 08:00 PM I've gotten $400 shoes for around $30 on sale...mainly I end up paying about $20-40 for something that once retailed for $80-210. Most I've spent on a pair (that did last me for years and garnered lots of compliments) was about $115. Well, $150 on a pair of boots years ago. I wouldn't spend $600 unless the shoes in question were REALLY exceptional.
But - I'm really surprised here that nobody has suggested that your *husband* buy them for you if he likes them so much. That would be a nice gift. :D (Or is this a joint credit card/other account and it's coming from shared funds?)
Maybe you could wait until they're on sale anyway. Many of the very high end shoe departments offer many of the best markdowns...
Donna 10-17-2005, 08:10 PM Jennifer,
Find out when the sales occur, where I live twice a year are the shoes sales. Last summer I waited for a pair of shoes for three months to go on sale, then I bought them, opps not just one pair.
Ask the store how many pairs they have in stock of your size (as your sisters would like a pair also). If you feel they would still have your color and size when the sale starts then wait for the sale.
If the shoes are offered by several stores, or the same store has several outlets, you can also check out those sites to get an idea of their stock supply.
Then you would have done your best to figure out if you can get it on sale.
Wait a few days, or a week, to see if you still want those shoes. If from your research you find that that shoe is in short supply and you feel they are that special, go ahead buy them.
Making yourself sexy, and loving your man is more important than the cost of those shoes. If you have the cash, buy them, go to a nice dinner with your husband, and when you come home, if that is your night for passion, wear those shoes in the bed, and tell him how much you love him. When you feel sexy your husband will also feel sexy, the feeling will transfer to him as well.
If you find shoes a bit expensive but very nice and they are on sell when you see them, get them, just keep in mind if they are a bit conservative and would be used for years in many functions, grab them up when they are on sale.
Enjoy your life, and let us know what happens.
Donna
Harrison 10-17-2005, 08:23 PM I just spent $40 on tennis shoes on sale. For me that was a lot...hehe
LOL I like you, disgurl! You crack me up! :)
jesique 10-17-2005, 09:05 PM The most I'll spend is like 50 bucks...and thats only for a top notch, got to have em to complete my collection, colored tennis shoe.
And only if I can't find em on sale or at the outlet mall. *grin*
What can I say....I'm cheap.
Nadine.
RobsGirl 10-17-2005, 09:09 PM When I had more money I think the most I ever spent was 300.00 for a pair of shoes. . .but then, I'm not much of a shoe person. Now, purses?? That's entirely another story. . .I am a total purse addict. . .and I have no idea why. . .lol
miss b 10-17-2005, 09:21 PM I'm not a frugal person but........there's no way that I'd spend 600.00 on a pair of shoes. My man wouldnt even tell me to buy them either. He'd have a fit. :)
I love shoes and according to the man of the house..I have too many shoes !
I find shoes on sale at Macy's, Dillards, Foleys all the time and never spend more than 50.00 for a pair. I have some that I've paid 125.00 for, but those are for special-special occasions. :D
Ariel22 10-17-2005, 10:48 PM The most I have ever spent on shoes was I think.... about $150....
I have to absolutely love the shoes to spend a lot on them....because I am a poor college student....but I am a shoe freak...I have at least 50 pairs :D
I would totally spend $600 on a pair of shoes if i had the extra money to do that.

Gee wizz if I were in your situation I'd buy them! (Or let him buy them if you will ;))

Oops did I miss something? ;)
Harrison 10-18-2005, 12:00 AM Nothin', just razzin ya. ;)
skatergirl 10-18-2005, 12:31 AM No worries! :D
Dolphin1974 10-18-2005, 09:13 AM I'm not going to spend $600 on shoes. The limit is $200 and then I would just have to fall in love with them.
Enoch_Cain 10-18-2005, 09:43 AM If I like the shoes I will pay whatever the cost....
In Your Eyes 10-18-2005, 04:53 PM I always go with buy what you can afford. If you have the means to buy $600 shoes and it won't effect your finances i say go for it girl!!
I usually spend like $70-$100 on heels. My main concern with shoes is trendy and comfortable. I go to night clubs at least 2 nites a week, so payless won't cut it, there would be a blister on by 2 in two minutes, i know i have tried to be cheap it's not worth it.
The main reason $100 is my breaking point is b/c I can usually find something I am satisfied with for $100 like Nine West or the comofort of all comfort Aldos!! I also don't love shoes the way I love bags. My spending limit is way higher on purses b/c I love them more. If I wasn't a student, I'd probably look at higher priced shoes, but for now I stay away from the Manolos lol.
This topic always reminds me of the episode of Sex and the City where single Carrie goes over her friend's house for a party, the woman is married with kids and forces carry to take off her shoes that cost $800. The shoes get stolen. Carrie wants the woman to re-buy her the shoes, and the woman says sure how much were they like $250?? And Carrie says $800 and the woman is like no one should spend more than $400 on shoes. And Carrie goes there was a time when you were single when you felt different.
So I agree with the show. No one should buy $600 shoes and like not feed their kids. But if $600 is nothing to you: SHOP SHOP SHOP!!!

A woman after my own heart :)
The shoes I am wearing today only cost $80, the clothes I am wearing only cost $45...but my purse costs $600 lol
Dan_Shues 10-18-2005, 05:03 PM Thirty Dollars for shoes is all I will ever spend...
They're on my feet. They're going to get walked on, stepped on, trudged through mud and snow.....step in gum, dog crap, probably step on something that will puncture the soles.
I can probably think of 100 other things to spend my money on, other than shoes.
And I keep them until they pretty much fall apart. Until something on them rips...the sole rips off...or gets a hole in it. To paraphrase Larry McReynolds talking about racing tires, "I wear the goody off of 'em." And then some!
CabinFever 10-18-2005, 05:44 PM K, well this is probably merging into the frugal thread...but I hear ya Dan....cept I've been known to keep shoes going by using...yep, good ol duct tape! Mind you I don't wear these shoes into town, but around my house an around my community.
Also, I know some people think this is gross - but lots of my everyday casual shoes, and dress shoes, I buy at thrift stores  (but only if they look new or near new!).
legallyblonde 10-18-2005, 07:58 PM Okay, so my highest price on shoes is 135.00. I got them for work. And I too am a handbag, briefcase fanatic. I just got a Franklin Covey briefcase for 150.00.

Jennifer 10-18-2005, 09:45 PM I am not buying those shoes. I just can't bring my self to do that.
There are people starving in the U.S. and I am going to buy $600 shoes. No, I can't do it. I actaully didn't want to. I was only thinking about it becuase my husband loved the way I looked in them and I was doing it for him. I can't do it. I am not a princess nor was I ever and i can't see spending that kind of money on shoes. I have to admit I have a good amount of shoes but, I have never spent more than $200 on shoes. I would love a pair of Blahnik but, I would never even bother trying them on becuase they are way out of my price range.

OMG, Thank you, Jennifer!!
Take a couple hundred and buy some poor folks several turkey dinners for Thanksgiving. Then get some cheaper shoes! Whew!
You are a saint. :)
Bella_D 10-18-2005, 09:56 PM Shoes are my `thing' so I'd pay up to $300 for a pair of good quality shoes I loved. They tend to last many, many years compared to my cheaper ones so I think you get what you pay for.
My rock-climbing shoes cost $ 250, and that was cheap.....but they've saved my butt more than a few times.
In Your Eyes 10-18-2005, 11:02 PM Some people have legitimate reasons to spend a lot on shoes. If you work on Wall street sporting the 20$ K Mart special you would not portray the image of your company. It all has to do with life style. What you can afford an what is appropriate.
If you're like jobless and charge six hundred dollar lime green shoes on your credit card even though you don't have health insurance that's ridiculous. If you are the ceo of a company and you feel like you need 600$ shoes to look professional i say so be it.
thatgirl 10-18-2005, 11:13 PM I agree.
If I want something that's expensive, I buy it and don't feel guilty. Why should I? We've worked hard for our money.
On the flip side we do donate turkey dinners to the Rescue Mission.
It is possible to have nice things and give something back..
lencarol 10-19-2005, 12:59 PM I am not a big shoe person. I have two pairs of high heels, about $50/pair. I pay more for my Birkenstock's and sport shoes, $60-70/pair. I don't think I have over 10 pairs of shoes! Just not a shoe person. I do love my flip flops though.
