I've seen some interesting ones and I just thought it'd be neat to hear some of them explained - Fossy for example...I always wondered what that really meant. Not just Fossy but everyone - fee free to share....

Mine is Sugarbritches because my sweetie calls me that a lot - I know it sounds really corny but I think it's cute :D

Pita
10-18-2005, 04:24 PM
Well I didn't get it because I love bread! Although I do love bread. :D

When I first met my OM and decided to give us a try he changed my name to pita. It means "pain in the a-s-s" It's cute and endearing and reflects the big challenge he sees in loving me. I love it so much and am always taken aback now when he calls me by my real name. :)

TxCaramel
10-18-2005, 05:03 PM

When my OM and I first met, I had actually been working for "him" in his office for 4 months. (I didn't exactly work for him, but his name was on my paycheck.)

I kept a 2 gallon bowl on my desk with a betta fish (siamese fighting fish) in it. I changed his bowl every other day. He got sick and died after eight months of having him, I don't know what happened. My OM and I were in the beginning stages of a relationship and he really felt bad when my fish died.

So, he went out and bought two kissing gouramis from the pet store. Kissing gouramis don't really kiss, what looks like kissing is actually a way of marking territory, but that's neither here nor there. Problem was, you really can't keep two kissing gouramis in a 2 gallon bowl. They need more like a 30 gallon tank, with filtration, heat, some air pumps, etc. Finding this out made my OM feel even worse about my fish dying.

So he went back to the petstore, and instead of returning the gouramis (apparently there are very strict 'no returns' policy on live fish in NYC) he bought me a 29 gallon tank with a high end filtration system, decorations, stand, the whole nine yards. One gourami unfortunately died, presumably of new tank syndrome. But the other one is about 3 1/2 years old and the patriarch of the tank.

Whenever he or I look at the tank, a gesture of kindness that ballooned into hundreds of dollars and countless hours of cleaning and troubleshoot, my man or I like to say...

"Viva la gourami!"
translated it means 'Long live the gourami!"

Now that's quite a long winded story for a simple monkier.

When I was a girl scout we went on a ski trip to New Mexico. I always get these strange ideas....and I thought the name Jesique was soooo sophisticated...so I told our ski instructer that my name was Jesique. He called me that the whole lesson...I even got to be his special helper!!! :D

My boyfriend's mother is allergic to cats and he's never been able to have one. When we finally are able to live together (we're in a long distance relationship overseas) then we plan to adopt a kitten.

He was so happy that I agreed to have a kitten with him that he already picked out her name, "Charlotte", and she was on my mind when I joined Ageless. :)

Gypsyheart
10-18-2005, 10:44 PM
I supposedly have gypsies in my ancestory and that has always intrigued me. There are alot of negative things said about them, but I like to think of them as "free spirits", not caving to societal pressures.

Towards the end of my marriage, I was feeling suffocated by his control issues. I had sat down to make a nickname for a game I played and it popped in my head.

My heart was desperately wanting to be free from the oppression,
......to breathe again
...........hence GypsyHeart.

fos4snt
10-19-2005, 06:17 AM
fos4snt is short for phosphorescent, which means luminous or glowing. I came up with it a number of years ago in trying to think of, oddly enough, the right license plate for my dream car. LOL. My dream car being a 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible in OPTIC ORANGE with a white top, white wall pimpin' tires and leopard print fun fur interior. ROFLAO.

I just thought, "Whoah... that's gonna be one glowin', irridescent pimp mobile. Phosphorescent, even." And when I worked it out that I could condense it to 7 letters phonetically, I was hooked on the name.

While I don't drive the "pimp" car, I do drive an ORANGE car and it is quite humorous when people DO actually work out the phonetic part and do recognize the fairly obscure word, because they CRACK UP every time and I definitely get comments from strangers. Most prominent is: OMG, it's the phosphorescent pumpkin!

BING! :D

Thanks for the redirect - when I posted it I knew it shouldn't go in relationship support but I wasn't real sure where to put it.

Yeah, fos, that makes sense now that you've explained it.

Names can be so cool sometimes..... expecially the reasons why we choose them.... Kinda lets you know a little about the person :)

We have so many sections here on ageless... Unfortunatly the YW/OM side doesn't see this and kinda always sticks to the OM/YW section so I'm glad we are starting to "venture" out heheh...

Mine is a gaming name.

The first mmo I ever played was The Sims Online in Beta. I wanted a name that rhymed and I'm not the least bit clever... so I thought Marcy Darcy. It took less that 15 mins in that game for the first person to ask me if I was a big Married with Children fan. LOL! I didn't even think of that though I had seen the show. So I was stuck with that all through Beta. When the game went live, I shortened it to MarcyD so that I could retain my game identity, but do away with the constant Married with Children question. She became my sort of online alter ego and I continue to use her today.

Back in the day I rode a 1967 Shovelhead (Harley) and all the bikers I rode with started calling me Tinydancer after the song by Elton John came out. Guess it just stuck. I am tiny, was a ballet dancer, use to love musicians  and was one of only two girls who rode her own bike.
Guess it could have been worse, some of the guys names were "Chiken neck", "Roadblock", "Gumby", and my friend, the other girl who rode was named Goldie because of her blonde hair.
Would love to know what happened to all those people. I moved back to NY to dance and lost touch with all of them :(
Blessings, Tinydancer

Dan_Shues
10-19-2005, 10:15 AM
Dan...well, it's my name.

Shues? It's a shortened and twisted version of my last name. It's what people have called me for awhile, as a nickname. Well, actually they call me, "Shueballs"....but, when I signed up for Ageless, I don't think people would of taken a liking to someone coming in with the word "balls" in thier name...so, I decided to drop that.

So, Dan_Shues it became.
It was that...or my onlike monicker I used when I first went online, "Reality"
Or...my alter ego in my fantasy wrestling league, "Drake Macon."

yea, it's actually not a version of his song. it's a completely different song. it just happens to have those 3 lyrics in common. it can be downloaded b/c it is and older song.

In Your Eyes
10-19-2005, 11:40 AM
here of the rest of the lyrics:

Ever since that day that u looked into my eyes I knew i wanted to be yours forever (hmmm) Every day and night you're all i think about
I know that we belong together
And here we are in each other's arms
And i'm praying that we never have to part

Ur eyes bright blue as the sky
Deeper than the sea
Warm as the sun
And peaceful as a light breeze
Ur eyes capture me in an instant
And leave me hyponotized
And i get lost everytime
In ur eyes

Sometimes i'm so scared i'll lose this perfect love
My life is tied to urs forever
And since i found you i dont know what i'd do If u and i werent together (no, no, no, no, no, no)
You give me life in a way that i will never be able to describe

it's a really hot beat if you are into that genre of music. it's more something you have to feel than base off lyrics, but the lyrics they chose in this instance work well with the beat.

Years ago a guy I was dating told me that there is only one love in life. He said that even though you may love different people, have relationships, etc. that there is only one person that is your one love. He told me this because he was in love with a girl that he had dated years previously but the girl's father made them break up. We broke up, they got back together after 12 years, got married and have two babies. Better her than I.... ;)

When I came to Ageless, I came here regarding a ym that I believed was my one love. :)

I love this thread. It's so cool reading about where all of your screen names come from.

I adopted mine for an email account back in 1998 while I was finishing my degree. My degree is in Earth Science and Policy.

I've always been fond of the Goddess concept. I grew up reading fairy tale books about Goddesses, Faeries, etc. because my mom was into all of that stuff. I think 'Goddess' is a beautiful word and a word that makes women feel beautiful.

And Science Goddess to me means a Goddess of the Earth.

Oh that was fantastic! I too adore the word goddess, which is what my estranged YM called me. *sighs*

Anyways, mine is pretty obvious if you know my name, which is Shannondoah. I picked up S-DOAH when I wanted to get personlized license tags on my first car at 17 and Shadoa was taken......so.....the legend of Sdoah began, which was my second choice. :p

Bella
10-19-2005, 05:44 PM
My game name is always Carlanne, but if anyone I'd gamed with ever searched Carlanne, I didn't want them stumbling across Ageless, so I needed to come up with something different. Besides, the Carlanne comes from a sort of use of my daughter's name, and I didn't want to use that to talk about freaking out about my relationship.

At the same time David was trying to come up with some pet name for me that hadn't been used by anyone, and given my age, that wasn't easy. Bella, beautiful in Italian, was something he came up with, and it stuck. His cell even has my number progammed in as Bella's phone, although he never calls me that, when he's talking to me.

Maybe I have multiple personality disorder.....

PinkCat
10-19-2005, 06:36 PM
My name really is very boring. I like cats. And I just put the pink part to indicate that... well... that I'm a girl. My thinking was, if I put... BlackCat or something, that could possibly sound like a guy's name. Plus I thought it all sounded kind of cute. And ummm.... I used to really like the Pink Panther when I was a kid, but he's a boy so couldn't just put Pink Panther, plus there was someone here with that name, or something similar.

What's cute is that my boyfriend, who has only ever posted here once, uses AlleyCat as his sign-in name for all kinds of forums and stuff. So we are both cats.

Skateboarding was a big part of my life, I even skated a place we called the wall where we would skate up on a vertical slant underneath a bridge...I taught myself a lot of tricks and it was fun. I recently bought a board... (But remember the guy who sold it to me I wound up going out with him...so it kinda put me off for a minute.) But I know that when my head clears...I'll be cruising again! I don't want to lose my skill and I want to feel the freedom and the wind in my hair again! Thus, skatergirl! :)

A sandwich formed by spreading a softened lahvosh with cream cheese, then layering thin slices of sandwich fillings such as meat, cheese, lettuce, pickle and so on. This large flat round is then rolled jelly-roll style, wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerated for several hours. Before being served, the cylinder is cut into about 1-inch thick slices. I am very tall and blonde and since my Mom thinks I am a cutie well I ended up believing her!!! jajajaja...

I have been using ALTARUBIAGUAPA even before I came to Ageless at other Spanish speaking forums so I decided to remain what I am! jajajaja
