What's your all-time favorite sitcom? Is it one I've listed in the poll? If not, choose "other" and tell us what yours is.

The Honeymooners should totally be in there. That show was hilarious. One part Gleason, two parts booze.

When I first posted the poll, it would only allow me to put 10 spots there. I struggled over which ones to add. :D But, I am able to go in and edit the poll to add additional ones, so I was able to add a space for The Honeymooners and gave it one vote from you vivalagourami.

Katrina,

SEINFELD just rules, that's all there is to it!!

Honorable mention:

Sanford and Son ("Lamont, you big dummy!" :D)

Three's Company (God, I miss Jack (John Ritter) and Janet and Chrissy)

Whew, this poll brought back memories of a lot of wasted, brain-dead summers in front of the boob-tube. :)

My all time favorite show was "China Beach". I wish it would come out on video/dvd so my husband could watch it too.
Favorite comedy, has to be "Sex in the City"........love those ladies!
When I am feeling in need of comfort TV, I love all the old sitcoms on Nick at night.

I voted Seinfeld last night....

Im not surprised Harrison that you voted for it.....

I love the way they had little "mini" scenes in each episode where it all tied together at the end of the show....

Just like some of Harrison's threads...

HA... :D

Home Improvement!!! I used to LOVE JTT....I actually got my pic taken with him once...that was like a dream come true. *grin*

Full House

Boy Meets World

Family Matters

Perfect Strangers

Too many great sitcoms to name them all. Nowadays I don't watch many sitcoms...I watch more reality tv.

I have never been more excited than when Seinfeld and Friends ended. :D

I chose Cheers, cuz I loved Cheers (and good beers... LOL)...

But, I also LOVED Seinfeld and had my "college click" which was VERY Seinfeld. We were SO like them and would watch them and be like "WHOAH... that's US!!" ROFLAO. My big brother played the life part of Kramer... my ex-boyfriend was Seinfeld and my buddy Dave was a heavy set, non-bald George. Me, of course, would be your Elaine. GET OUT!!

LOL

Other shows I loved... Married with Children. RENO 911!!! The SIMPSONS. Friends was good for a couple seasons...

But no, I go back to my FAVORITE favorite being Cheers for the longest time in my life enjoying it. And Reno 911 for the MOST hilarity.

I've got to go with GEG on this one. The Cosby Show is still my all time favorite, but Roseanne would probably be a distant second. :p

And the hour long HBO shows are not sitcoms, they are dramas just to clarify.

The Simpsons... :o

about 1997 the only thing out of my oldest sons mouth was D'oh....I couldnt keep him from that show...Finally the TV broke and said that's it! D'oh

And we went without television for 5 years after that (absolutely the best thing I ever did...and worst thing was bringin it back) Though I do have to say, to this day all 3 still dont really watch tv at all... :)

The sitcoms picked by others on this thread are all winners and I almost listed one or two as my personal favorites. Then, I remembered my top choice: South Park. It's Charlie Brown and Snoopy but up-to-date, less sentimental and more profane. It's also wickedly funny.

"Other".

I am not a big fan of U.S. sitcoms, but there have been a few that I liked:

Lucy
Third Rock
The Jeffersons
Roseanne
Living Single
Ellen (the series)

I prefer British comedy. There are too many to list, but a few are:

Are You Being Served?
Fawlty Towers
Keeping Up Appearances
Absolutely Fabulous
Red Dwarf
The Darling Buds Of May
Yes, Minister
Two's Company
No Place Like Home

Hey Patricia you and I would have a great time sitting back and watching the British comedies. How about 'Open All Hours'? And 'To The Manor Born'? Two of my very favorites. Got 'em videotaped so I can watch whenever I want.

But my all time favorite comedy ever is M*A*S*H!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Lynn, I loved "Open All Hours" and "To The Manor Born"! Penelope Keith is one of my favorite comic actresses.

Do you like "Rumpole Of The Bailey"?

It is good to find someone else who likes British comedy. There is a local PBS station which has a lot of British programming. They have comedy, mystery, science fiction and, of course, EastEnders. It is my favorite PBS station.

Penelope Keith is terrific! I also loved her in another British comedy, 'Good Neighbors'. Oh gosh I'd laugh so much my belly hurt. What crazy stuff.

I never got to see 'Rumpole of the Bailey'. I remember it was listed for awhile, but I'm thinking there must've been something else going on that I never saw it. Since you mention it I'm assuming it must be worth watching.

Right now we can't get any television reception. But I've been going to the library for a lot of the comedies. I'll look for Rumpole of the Bailey tonight and see if they have it.

How about the 'Mr. Bean' episodes? Those are so hilarious!! I love him.

An honorable mention here..." Get Smart " Don Adams... may he rest in peace and Barbara Feldon. Agent 86 and Agent 99. Remember Dick Gautier the guy who played "Hymie".

I loved the catchphrases from this show:

Would you believe...?

This one came from Don Adams and Bill Dana before Get Smart, although it did appear in the pilot episode. Adams did a routine called The Bengal Lancers (it's on his first LP) where he's Lieutenant Faversham interogating the villianous Mohammed Khan. He and Dana added the following exchange:

Faversham: You think you've got me, but I have you surrounded by the entire mounted 17th Bengal Lancers.
Khan: I don't believe you.
Faversham: Would you believe the First Bengal Lancers?
Khan: No
Faversham: How about Gunga Din on a donkey?

The Old __________ Trick

This one was there from the start, appearing in Mr. Big as "The old garbage trick." It was usually followed by the phrase "that's the second time I've fallen for that this month/week." My personal favorite comes from Smartacus:

"The old Professor Peter Peckinpah all purpose anti-personnel Peckinpah pocket pistol under the toupee trick."

And loving it!

Used by Max whenever the Chief would explain how this latest mission would place Max in incredible danger, it's first utterance was in Mr. Big.

Chief: Max, you realize you'll be facing every kind of danger imaginable.
Max: And loving it!

Sorry about that Chief!

Max would always use this one when he blundered. Okay, he blundered so much that he didn't use it every time, but it was probably the most used phrase in the show. Originally, this began as just a generic "Sorry about that." It first was used in Our Man In Toyland when Max accidentally sprays Mr. Bunny with perfume. It wasn't until The Day Smart Turned Chicken that "Chief" was added onto the end of the phrase. This phrase really caught on when late in 1965 one of the Gemini astronauts used it when he made a mistake.

Missed it by that much!

Obviously, this phrase was used when someone, usually Max, was just a little bit off in his aim, guess, or goal. The Day Smart Turned Chicken marked its first use. A KAOS agent was attempting to jump from a window into a truck loaded with mattresses. He jumps, Max looks out the window, turns back to the room and utters one of the show's most enduring phrases.

I asked you not to tell me that!

This phrase didn't debut until the third season in Viva Smart. It was usually used when Max didn't want to hear about a mistake or terrible thing that happened. Most of its uses went along the lines of the first one.

Max: Don't tell me I fell off the horse.
99: You fell off the horse Max.
Max: I asked you not to tell me that!

Great Show!!! :p
