In Your Eyes 10-25-2005, 09:08 AM i seriously have a fear of clowns. I had this dream last nite and woke up screaming:
I was on the cruise my boyfriend and I are supposed to go on. We were snuggled in bed and my friend Chris and his g/f Nicole came in. They were like let's order champagne and ice cream. And for someone reason in the dream my BF and Chris were pro soccer players and weren't allowed to drink or eat sweets. So their coach bursts in the room and the ice cream gets delivered so the coach yells and I tell him it is for me and I eat it out of the bucket. When the champagne comes he yells again and Nicole says it's hers and drinks it out of the bucket. So the coach leaves and we lock the door. So then we hear honking outside the door. Nicole opens it and A CLOWN ON A LIL BIKE RIDES IN THE ROOM AND HONKS A HORN AND WANTS TO MAKE MY BOYFRIEND A BALLOON ANIMAL. I woke up screaming.
Anyone else have a phobia?
Enoch_Cain 10-25-2005, 09:10 AM Spiders.....other than that nothing scares me.

Had to laugh about the clowns.Ever since I was a child I hate clowns.
RobsGirl 10-25-2005, 09:27 AM I'm really not afraid of much of anything. . .I've always wondered why people are afraid of clowns. . .why IS it that people are afraid of clowns? Clowns are supposed to be good things. . .I guess, I'm not much of a circus person, really, but clowns are supposed to be funny and all that, why be afraid of them?
Now something that I'm not so much afraid of as disturbed are Margaret Keene paintings. Those big eyed kids are freaking CREEEPY!!!!

John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer, didn't help clowns' image either with his clown paintings!
As for what scares me: Heights. Flying doesn't bother me at all because I'm sealed in a tube and just enjoy the view (I always get a window). But if I'm somehow out in the open, I can get freaked out. One time I was going up a forest fire observation tower where you could see down through the stairs and I just had to get my a$$ back to the ground.
Spiders don't bother me at all, but roaches completely freak me out!

jesique 10-25-2005, 12:43 PM The dark. I hate the dark....If I'm in the dark...i had better be safe in bed...under the covers...no feet or hands hanging off the bed. I hate the dark...who knows what scary things can happen when its dark!!!
Nadine.
Dan_Shues 10-25-2005, 12:59 PM To those that know me, it's quite humorous and ironic...
I can watch the sickest stuff that hollywood or the real media can put out. I can watch clips and pictures from ogrish...I can watch horror movies that will make a black haired person turn white haired. Whether it be the goriest zombie movie...the portrait of a serial killer....or a cannibal holocaust.
You name the picture or movie...and I can sit through it and not a drop of bile enters my upper body....
BUT....
If I start thinking about my death and my own mortality? I've known to scare myself SO BAD thinking of that, that I will literally get NO SLEEP that night...
I can look at pictures of real dead people...clips of real dead bodies. I can watch the most sublime horror movies ever put out...
But, if I think of MY OWN mortality? It scares me to know end.
joelstrouble 10-25-2005, 01:09 PM I HATE clowns too!!!!!
I think that comes from all the horror movies I have seen with them.
:(
tinydancer 10-25-2005, 01:31 PM Awww, some of my closest friends, back in the early 80's, were clowns.
Pretty cool people.............CRAZY......... but cool.
I was a dancer with Ringling Bros. circus. Fell in love with a Bulgarian acrobat (true story) but that is another chapter in my book of life.
After 2 years, Kenneth Feld, the owner himself, threw me out. I was on a one woman crusade to save the elephants from abuse! Over the 2 years that I was touring with them, I called the ASPCA, Peta , Humane Society, Dept. of Agriculture (elephants are apparently considers in the cow family here in the USA), and anyone else who would listen. Nothing happened :( BUT, in the early '90's, 2 of the "girls", crushed their trainer, Axel G., to death during their hiatus in Sarasota FL.........none got in trouble b/c no one could figure out which 2 it was LOL.......I have an idea though ;)
Karma Baby
So, I guess what scares me is evil, uncaring people..........I'd rather deal with the creepy crawlies over them any day.
Blessings, Tinydancer

LMAO!! We must be twins! I will add flying giant ****roaches and grasshoppers that come in bright yellow and green and are the size of a small animal.
edited because them not letting me have the C word for roach is way funny! :D
Charlotte 10-25-2005, 01:34 PM Spiders.....other than that nothing scares me.
 YOU AND ME BOTH!!!
I found this in my room a couple days ago and thought I would die as my trachea closed up:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y258/canadian_daisy/spider.jpg
I know I have lots of strange critters in my home as pets and I don't mind handling beetles, beetle larva, crickets and silk worms, dead/live rats and mice, but spiders make me go AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHhhhhh!!!!
Bodhi Tree 10-25-2005, 01:38 PM roaches and worms. i could seriously die from a heart attack. Heights terrify me too.
But my ultimate nightmare is being stuck and uable to move. I often have the same nightmare that something is weighing me down heavily, half asleep I try to move, I start with fingers, then my arm and when I'm almost awake and know that I can move, I'm relieved.
I HATE horror movies, can't even watch a trailer
oh and I seriously panick in big crowds.
fos4snt 10-25-2005, 01:42 PM Clowns don't scare me nearly as much as... as...
http://www.mimeistrysouthafrica.com/images/MIME-05.gif
They send me running... AAAAAHHHHHH... LOL.
What scares me? Not spiders, unless they or their webs are actually ON me and then I do the creepy, screechy dance. Not heights. Not planes. Not cars. Not horses. Not even really mortality.
But, at any given moment, there could be something that creeps me out or seems insurmountable, but I usually get over it. LOL. Even my house's lil kid ghost doesn't scare me much.
No, being a PASSENGER in either my own or someone else's car is probably the biggest thing that scares me. I don't know why, but I am THE worst passenger because I am, literally, HORRIFIED. So, yeah, I drive. If you want to keep your sanity, you will understand that I need... NEED to be behind the wheel. ;) Even if I'm tired and have been driving 15 hours straight. Doesn't matter. Just let me drive... even if you're the BEST driver ever... there is no hope. I'm helpless.
~phos
Edited to add: I DO admit that bugs with STINGERS freak me out BIG time. Spiders are cool and I just want them out of my house and they're fine, but wasps, bee's, hornets and the like... oh no, keep them stinger bugs away from me. I will flail and run anytime I see one near. Bwahahhaa
1love 10-25-2005, 02:21 PM My fear.... rather something that creeps me out is odd patterns, like when you see the ground dried and cracked... or the underside of a mushroom/toadstool, all those squiggly lines....anything like that gives me the creeps, I hate it and my daughter has the same issue.
I've always wondered why people are afraid of clowns. . .why IS it that people are afraid of clowns? Clowns are supposed to be good things. . .I guess, I'm not much of a circus person, really, but clowns are supposed to be funny and all that, why be afraid of them?
That is a good question, molly...
Coulrophobia = fear of clowns.
Actually, many people are afraid of clowns. Years ago I watched a show and it talked about the fact that being afraid of clowns can be a sign of being sexually abused as a child.
Phobias
Phobia is a form of an anxiety disorder that involves intense and illogical fear of an object or situation. Usually, the individual is aware that the fear is out of proportion to the danger of the thing they fear. In other words, someone being afraid of skydiving or rock climbing wouldn't have a phobia; both of these activities carry high risks for injury or death. However, someone who has never had a negative experience with a dog but is afraid of dogs has a phobia. And, even allowing for the fact that a person has had a negative experience with the thing or situation feared, the presence of a phobia is indicated if the level of fear is out of proportion with the threat the situation or object presents.
The most common phobia is agoraphobia, the fear of public places. This is a phobia that can impair a person's ability to connect with others, to attend school, and to hold a job. People with severe agoraphobia will not only avoid crowds and busy places, some may refuse to leave their homes entirely. Other common phobias include the fear of heights, called acrophobia, and claustrophobia, which is the fear of closed spaces (such as elevators or overly crowded rooms that leave little personal space).
TREATMENTS. Treatments for phobias usually involve confronting the fear in some way. Behavioral therapists (see Chapter 15: Mental Health Therapies) may use a variety of techniques that involve visualization or actual contact with the object or situation around which the phobia centers. The thinking behind this, for certain schools of therapies, is that it will desensitize the phobic to the phobia. For example, flooding, a behavioral technique, involves exposing a phobic person to the cause of the phobia in an extreme way; however, this can cause the phobic serious initial discomfort, at the very least, and many therapists shy away from therapies that could potentially traumatize a patient.
Operant conditioning is also used in similar ways. Cognitive therapists will work with phobics using cognitive therapies alone (without some type of exposure to the source of the phobia), but this is usually effective only in the case of social phobics. Furthermore, social phobics have responded well to behavioral techniques that involve acquiring better social skills so that they feel more comfortable in social situations. Drugs have also been used to lessen a phobic's anxiety but drugs only mask the fear and will not solve the problem in the long term.
WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?
For every fear, it seems there is a phobia. Listed below are just some phobias, from the common to the plain weird.
Phobia Meaning

This is exactly how I feel!!
Interesting story about the elephants. They are incredibly intelligent creatures (as I'm sure you know, Tinydancer) so I'm not surprised they pulled it off.
I can understand the fear of clowns, after watching IT
But as for creepy-crawlies and critters...love em all ('cept mosquitoes in the middle of the night cause then I cannot sleep and me without sleep is scary!).
Ariel22 10-25-2005, 08:01 PM I am terrified of mountain lions, spiders, and crickets!
I wont go ouside at night or in the morning by myself....only to run to my car....because I am so scared that I might run into a mountain lion.
Spiders are just icky and creepy! If I see one...in person, a picture, or on tv...I gag and wanna throw up!
I dont mind the small crickets...its just the big black ones....GROSS!
Patricia 10-25-2005, 09:03 PM I am terrified of bears and ****roaches. I can buddy up with just about any kind of bug except ****roaches. It is a childhood phobia.
I will never go camping, partly because of my fear of bears.
In my dreams, big cats scare me to death. We have mountain lions around here (I saw one once), so every time I go out hiking I am nervous.
Oh yes, also in the bug family are scorpions. They are deadly and look like it! I was walking at night in a little dark Mexican town with a friend years ago, and he got stung in the hand by one that was on a stairway railing. Boy, did it hurt! Luckily, all the residents keep the antivenom on hand, so he quickly found someone to treat him.
If it is fear: I have the most tremendous fear of being raped. I also have a fear of flying, but not to the point of it being a phobia.
Phobias: Dolls - the really pretty porcelain ones. I used to have reoccuring nightmares about this one my sister had when we were children. The phobia got so out of control that I actually began to hallucinate that the d*mn thing would move around and talk to me. It's not that big of a problem anymore. ;)
I also have a phobia of Indian Meal Moths and I think I am developing a phobia of roaches.

sheila4pd 10-25-2005, 09:32 PM I have a phobia of roaches and driving across the long bridge that spans the Panama Canal. It is very windy up there and I feel my car will be blown down. Actually one US Army truck did fall from that bridge about 20 years ago.

I was thinking as I read, that I don't have many serious fears or phobias anymore. I've never minded snakes, rodents, etc. I've gotten over my fear of the dark and spiders. But....sign me up with Tiny and Cabin on this one. Evil people are scary...or is it that they are sickening?
How to get over your fear of Spiders:
I used to freak out at the sight of even the tiniest 'pidey. Then, I spent two months living in an 8x10 shanty shack out in the middle of a National Forest while attending UC Berkeley Forestry Camp. This shanty shack had wood plank floors and half walls that ended right about chin height for me, the rest of the "wall" and the ceiling was mesh screen. The floors had gaps between the wood, therefore allowing for access by small crawly things.
I shared my little shack..and my sleeping bag...with these creepy red and black 'pideys about an 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter with big huge EYES that looked at you!...for two whole months. There was no way to keep them out!
I actually ran into a girl that I went to Forestry Camp with the other day. We shared 'pidey stories...and she said that same thing! That summer was the summer that she got over her fear of spiders! I still won't grab a big ol' 'pidey with a wad of toilet paper but I don't get the freakin' chills anymore.
I think the saying is Face Your Fears. Yep.
LADave 10-26-2005, 12:18 AM What a cute word! No way anyone could be bothered by something called a " 'pidey" :)
Rozie 10-26-2005, 12:35 AM I don't do well with heights! Balconies in high rise hotels....yikes!! You know how in movies the guy pushes the girl against a balcony and kisses her passionately, against a backdrop of city skyline, or sunset or ocean? No thanks! Won't even sit out there for breakfast. :o
tinydancer 10-26-2005, 08:57 AM OK, off the subject here, but,............HOW do you guys insert all of those pictures in your posts?????????????
I have tried and tried...........and tried. No can do :(
Blessings, Tinydancer
Niall 10-26-2005, 10:42 AM Let's see:
1. Heights -- I absolutely refuse to climb a ladder for any reason. However, I can sit on the balcony of my 9th floor apartment comfortably and I'm not afraid of flying.
2. Rats. Mice, I don't mind as much.
3. Certain breeds of dogs -- dobermans, pitbulls and German shepherds specifically. With dobermans and pitbulls in particular, well...call me prejudiced, but I'm very leery of people who own them. There's only one reason why someone would want those breeds of dogs.
4. When I was younger I was scared of those big colourful, noisy Chinese lions/dragon costumes that you see in Chinese parades. Now they don't bother me quite as much though.
Niall 10-26-2005, 11:37 AM Tinydancer,
I thought there would be instructions in around the little box where you type your message, but I'm looking at it now and they don't seem to be here. :(
However, I think this is how it's done:
You type in the URL of the picture with the extension of the type of image it is (ie jpeg, gif) at the end and put these HTML tags: [ IMG] [ /IMG} one at the start, one at the end:
Like this
[ IMG]http://www.urlgoeshere.jpeg[/ IMG]
Note: don't put spaces in the tags like I did -- I did that so the software wouldn't recognize it, since it's not a real link. ;)
Hope that helps! :)
teddikat 10-26-2005, 04:28 PM spiders of any shape, size or color...makes me shudder just thinking about them and that picture that someone had in their post- will give me nightmares.
I also do not like heights and driving across the Mackinac Bridge, 5mile long suspension that connects the two peninsulas of MI, makes my hands sore from gripping the wheel!! But there is some truth to the facing of fears, I went rock climbing last summer just to see if I could overcome that fear a bit......still scared!!
ruthie 10-26-2005, 04:44 PM Phobia: Being in water (not the bath tub) but don't pick me for your swim team.
Fear: Since I'm always juggling money, I suppose you could say I have a fear of not having enough money to make ends meet.
PinkCat 10-26-2005, 05:01 PM A friend of mine HATES mascots... like people in mascot costumes walking around a mall or whatever. She runs away when she sees one!
Interesting story: once in Edmonton there was a mascot footrace... I don't remember why, I'm sure there was a good reason. Anyway, a guy I knew was in it, as Marvy Mallphin (the old West Edmonton Mall mascot -- a dolphin who wears shorts or something like that). Also in the race was Mr. Greendrop, the mascot for Greendrop fertilizers or something... he was shaped kinda like a big green Hershey's Kiss. Anyway, at the starting mark, Mr. Greendrop said something derogatory to Marvy Mallphin and they ended up rolling around, wrestling... the mallphin and the greendrop. I just thought I'd share that weird mascot story, don't ask me why.
MerAlove23 10-26-2005, 10:11 PM Evil, evil woman, Mer! *laugh*
.
LOL I couldnt' help myself... I am deadly afraid of spiders LOL and When I was searching for a pic I found this one I'm like this will freak someone out LOL
Ray 59 10-27-2005, 08:15 AM I was terrified of bully's when I was a kid. My dad had beaten me so bad, one time, that everytime somebody raised there hand to me I cringed in fear...even kids half my size. Took me a long time to get over, but I did.
dmjoy 10-27-2005, 08:29 AM Flying and bridges, I went to a psychologist to see if I could get help for the phobia's and he said I have a problem with these things because I am not in control.
YA THINK? LOL
I never went back, I figured I could have told myself that and saved 90 bucks.
I can cross a bridge but I am very uncomfortable, and I have to take a valum and drink a Bloody Mary to fly and I am still white knuckled :( it sucks!
p.s. I read *IT* too and am not crazy about clowns anymore
Bob's babydoll 10-28-2005, 07:38 PM I'm scared of the dark. Heights make me squeamish. I'm afraid of spiders as well. Well, I freak out when I see just about any type of insect skitter across the floor.
When I was younger I suffered from anxiety attacts. I've since "outgrown" them, but I think I'll always have a touch of social phobia. Its strange because as much of a homebody I am and I'm extremely shy and "fearful" of people... ending up alone is probably my biggest fear of all.
