Fear-filled dog

I'm going to contact a vet, but I want to ask, has anyone had a totally fear-filled dog and did you find anything that helped?

My dog has always been completely terrified of thunderstorms. Then about 5 years ago, she started running down stairs whenever I raised my voice (Guilt Trip #73), then she started running downstairs if my TONE changed to anything other than happy and laughing (Guilt Trip #74), then she began to run downstairs for ANY noise, a dropped fork, putting dishes in the sink, etc. Today, she ran downstairs because I was unrolling wide tape from a roll!

It's so heartbreaking. I assume the vet will prescribe tranquilizers, which I am not adverse to - especially since my dog is 12 years old so she doesn't have that many years for drugs to damage her kidneys, liver, et al; but I was wondering if anyone else had found something to help? Expressions of commisseration without advice also gladly accepted.

Thanks in advance.

Check out www.onlynaturalpet.com
They have NATURAL ways of dealing with issues like this. There are herbs that can calm down 'wound-up' cats and dogs and there are NO side effects because they are only herbs.
I would never put my babies on drugs unless it was absolutely necessary......like my cat has ringworm right now and I will have to give him some meds to kill the bacteria...but once it's gone it's gone......I know people who give their pet medication each and every day, that can't be good.......

give it a shot!

I believe there is one that you just simply rub on their ears or fur and it's a flower essance that is supposed to calm them down.

Hi, BellaLove!!!!! Been wondering where you are! Thanks for the info, I'll give it a look. I tried the Bach Flower Remedy called "Rescue Remedy" for thunderstorms (I think it helped a little) but I didn't think of trying it on a regular basis.

Candy says "thank you" for the hug, Sheila, and the picture made me laugh out loud!!!!!! Thanks.

I think that a product I was giving her to relieve her joint stiffness may have been exacerbating her problem -- it got so bad that she cringed and ran when I snapped the cover on a video rental closed! Poor pumpkin. Actually, I think it may have made me a bit cranky as well. Gonna stop it for both of us and see how we do.

Thanks again.

Hey Chat....nice to see you too!
I have my cats on several herbs...it's all super good for them, unlike drugs. I ordered the flower herb for 'calmness' and also another one for being home alone all day when I'm at work.

It's very true that when you are treating your pet with meds, they may begin or make an existing problem worse......*sigh*

If you can, look for a Vet in town that deals with holistic remedies....I just switched to one in town and I love her!! She recommends all these great herbs and techniques.....no perscriptions unless the cat actually has something, like ringworm or whatever, and I haven't blown as much money as I used to at my old vet. Thank God!!

Talk to you later!
