Allergies

I have always had cats. I simply adore them. The problem is that my son is allergic to the hair.

I had to give away my beloved animal because my son's eyes became red and very itchy and he even started to get spots on his skin.

Does anyone know of any cures for allergies to cats ?

Cure, no.. BUT, there are some really good allergy medications out there which work for animal dander (people aren't actually allergic to the "hair") that are very successful. Maybe you would want to try some of them for him?

I know several cat allergic people who live with cats just fine using their allergy medications. :D

If you got rid of the cat, do not get another cat until your son is older. Why have him on medications unnecessarily? If he wants a pet, try a fish or a snake (snakes do not give allergies). Chiuaua (?) dogs are anti-allergic too.

You could try to babysit a cat if somebody has the need for it, so you can test the waters.

If you MUST have a cat, a thing that you could do is brush the cat frequently to remove hair and particles. Make sure the cat littler material is dust-free, and do not let him change the cat litter, do it yourself. Keep the cat away from his room specially from his bed.

Thanks for the advice ladies. Sheila, the neighbour's cat gets in sometimes when the door is open. My son instantly gets red eyes.

He's tried to pet rabbits and he's not allergic, but rabits are so fragile. I'm not a dog person at all and couldn't handle having to walk the animal twice a day. I'm not going to buy little mice to feed a snake, we had fish and they died too quickly and we were very sad.... so I suppose we won't have pets :(
