A very dear friend of mine just sent me this Sex Offender Locator and I sent it on to my son. I thought it would be good to post here for anyone who would like to use it, or for those who would like to send it on to others.

thats a GREAT link... I got the list for my house already..... There is one thats over on the next street from me.... However it was in the 90's and I've kinda watching the house ;) needless to say I'm on top of that list!!! Scary what you see though......

It doesn't work for Massachusetts though.... won't show the red ones because I believe you have to register with the Police to get it...

Its a good thing to know. We already had the link. And when we moved, we found out there were several offenders living within a few miles :eek: . One even on our street. So we can be more careful now. You have to pay special attention nowadays anyway. But at least you can get a heads up on the ones that are already convicted.

I don't know if it is just the list in my city......but they all seem to be very close to schools......that is scary to me. I would feel better if they weren't allowed to be so close to schools. The areas with the most were surrounded around schools.

I'm not putting down the list...but I will say this...

I found out a while a go that sometimes people on the sex offender list are on it for silly reasons...like if you got a ticket for public nakedness (or whatever it's called) ...say you got caught skinny dipping....then you'd go on the sex offender list.

So it's not all child molesters.

But it is a good thing to keep an eye on. *grin*

i know two people that got on this list:

one who was young (19) and had an affair with a 17 yr old. the parents pressed charges and really ruined his life. he's still considered a sex offender ten years later. it's awful, because he's a very decent fellow.

the other one is a sad, sad case of a (now former) alcoholic who masturbated in an alcoholic blackout in front of his eight yr old step son who then told his school guidance counselor (rightfully so) but the police immediately picked him up. he was convicted and went to prison for five years and is on this list for 8 years. i know of people who have plowed people down driving drunk and KILLED and didn't do as much time as this poor guy.

not all of these are horrible people, just wrong place at the wrong time. it's sad, because the minute people hear "sex offender" they assume the absolute worst, and it isn't always true.

How ironic...that so many people who frequent a site dedicated to age different relationships are as narrow minded and uninformed as the general public on this issue. Arbitrary limits on age differences, which vary widely from state to state, not to mention country to country, place many wonderful, loving people on this twisted black list. Has anyone ever researched the criteria used by the state to set the risk levels? In NY, there are dozens, no, more like hundreds, of true pedophiles (those attracted to PREPUBESCENT CHILDREN), whose identity is blocked to the paranoid individuals who peruse these lists and take what they see there as gospel. Ever had an arrest for marijuana possession? Ever had a DWI? Ever get charged with something you didn't do and have the audacity to take your case to trial? Hmm, automatically places you at level 2 (midrange in NY) Then again, if a person hasn't made any waves in other areas of life, hell, they could be convicted of sodomizing an 8 year old, and live right next door to you. And you will never know it!!!! Wake up people! This blacklist is a joke, and protects NOBODY!!!
