Easier to Raise-Boys or Girls???

I have 3 "grown" children, two girls and a boy. Before I was pregnant, I wanted only girls, as I thought they would be easier to raise. As little toddlers and preschoolers, the oldest girl was much more 'settled'. My boy, who was 2 years younger, was something else. Always getting into things and being VERY STUBBORN.

My son was also a handful at 13. He definitely was 'separating' from his Mom, while my daughter was still more dutiful and needing Mom's approval (we were pals). Things changed when she was about 16. She became very rebellious and started doing drugs. She straighten out when she got married and was clean for 16 years or so (I am not sure of the time). Now she is back on them. :(

My son, from the age of 15, never again had any problems. He has always been respectful, honest, and a hard worker. He had as many emotional issues to overcome as my older daughter but he managed to work things out and is having a very good life.

My youngest daughter (16 years younger than my oldest daughter), was a sweetheart as a toddler etc. Due to some other issues, she was very troubled as an older child (6-11) but she went into her teens without any drama or problems. She has had to deal with 'men' problems for the past 5 years. I am hoping that she can 'see the forest, for the trees' and not go through what her older sister has gone through. Since she has never had a drug problem, I believe that she will fare much better.

So how about you all? As children, do you think one sex is easier than the other? What about teenagers? Over all I think boys are easier and have less stress to deal with. Girls have self-esteem issues from 13 on, it seems. It can be a toss up I guess. What are your thoughts? :)

Im still hatching the darn things but so far with 2 boys and 1 girl

Boys definetly are easier. Ive alwasy joked all you need to do is throw a clean pair of boxers at them and keep em fed....thats all they need! (though one son probably would easily not even change those if I didnt make him)

My daughter is beautiful, sweet, generous, but MAN, that girl has ATTITUDE!

My children are all young (4, 6, 8, 9) and all boys so it's hard to say at this point how it will be in the future, although I've never had any girls for comparison either.

What I can say is that my children are getting rave reviews from their teachers and peers for their good nature, despite that they sometimes fight amongst themselves at home.

I think raising children in general is a difficult task, I'm not sure you can lump it into boys and girls...but rather just different personalities and parenting styles.

My children value books, because we don't watch television, and they are probably less violent than their peers because they don't watch violent shows. That's my theory anyhow.

Maybe if I had a girl I'd be pulling my hair out and complaining about the whining (which seems to be what my niece does CONSTANTLY and it makes me insane).

I have one of each. My son is 21 and my daughter is 12. I really try hard not to compare the two, but there is no doubt that my daughter is much more demanding and moody than my son ever was. :) But, that's only in the past year and I am sure that puberty has a lot to do with that.

There is no doubt they were completely different. My son, for example, was always very loving and gentle. The kind who loved sitting in my lap and snuggling. My daughter was never so affectionate as a smaller child, but as she gets older, she is becoming more affectionate.

I feel like I have had to discipline my daughter more than my son, but maybe that's just a perception because his childhood was so much longer ago and the memories are fading.

Overall, I feel really blessed. Both children are very well behaved. Oh sure, they have each had their moments when they pouted and sulked when they didn't get their way. But, they are generally very good kids.

Well I only have one boy... and he is 17months old and boy what a handful... he's the sweetest most loving child... intelligent I mean man he's already doing the alphabet and his numbers.. and he sings songs..... with almost all the words... BUT OMG he's a wild boy.. he's constinatly moving and getting into things.. he never ever ever sits down LOL i know he's going to keep me on my toes..

but from what I heard they say you Pay the Piper with boys in the beginning but you pay the price at the end with girls... I think either way it's a challenge, rewarding but a challenge none the less :)

From what I have witnessed of other families and their little girls and all my friends experiences and my own with baby boys, I have to agree with your comment.

Whereas their little girls made such a mess of their doll set and didn't put it away, my little boys were painting the whole house with peanut butter...cutting up sofas and gluing stuff to the walls everytime I tried to shower.

Yikes. My husband said when he was 10, he and his brothers would make their own "rockets" with paper towel roll and light them up with matches, fire up the BBQ with gasoline, and throw things out their apartment window "just to see what happens".
 indeed!

Well, you can add setting the Christmas tree on fire with a candle their father lit and left unattended to the list :@

OHMIGOSH!!!!!

That's it. I'm gonna pray for a girl instead! :)

Luckily it was just one ornament and I happened to be coming up the stairs and just grabbed the non-flaming part at the bottom of that wooden ornament and tossed it out the back door.

I get so angry when he lights candles and then walks away from them :@ (my ex, not the kids)
