Someone reputable posted the warning on another website I go to and prefaced it with:

"My sister is a part of the Florida Dept of Commerce and she sent me this in an email."

That is why I didn't question it. Anyway, I called and registered my cell number. I had already registered my home phone last year, but never thought to register my cell.
