NAVEEN Andrews, who plays Iraqi soldier Sayid on the hit television show Lost, has acknowledged that he fathered a child while briefly separated from his long-time girlfriend Barbara Hershey.
Andrews's publicist said Andrews and Hershey were separated for a "brief period" last year, during which Andrews had an encounter with another woman. He recently learnt he was the father of her baby boy.
"I have every intention of assuming appropriate responsibility for the child," Andrews said yesterday in a statement.
Andrews said he and Hershey had worked things out and remained committed to their relationship.
The British-born Andrews, 35, plays Sayid Jarrah, a former member of Iraq's Republican Guard, on Lost.
He has been nominated for a Golden Globe for supporting actor in a series, miniseries or movie.
Hershey, 57, has appeared in films including the award-winning Australian movie Lantana, Breakfast Of Champions and Falling Down.
Scandal has dogged Andrews since Lost transformed him into a star.
Last year his affair with his high school maths teacher was exposed in the British press.
