Flanker 01-09-2006, 08:32 PM Since the guy is a Jewish.
Disraeli sounds like Jewish name. So, I will go with Benjamin Disraeli.

Kindanice and Otto got it right, I'm sure. I know Ray did! Congratulations, gang!

Nathan Forrest, Robert Lee, and Stonewall Jackson were all Confederate military commanders. ;)

Ali
Uh, okaaaay. Does Ms. O'Hara like grits?? :D
I know nothing about Mr. Benjamin. Turned down a Supreme Court position huh? So he must have been nominated by Mr. Buchanan. Not neccisarily I guess...coulda been nominated by Mr. Pierce. By the time Mr. Buchanan was el presidente, the slaveholders already firmly had the Supreme Court, which made Mr. Buchanan a readily happy man. The whole Kansas Constitution (and Nebraska) debacle...and the Steven Douglas debacle. Except for the previously mentioned Warren G. Harding, James Buchanan is the worst president America has ever had. Although, we can fast forward to Andy Johnson, if we want to take a look at another southern dog. History is written by the victor? Not in Andy Johnson's little world. Ok...Andy Johnson is the worst president America's ever had.
Ok...in keeping with the theme of terrible heads of state, before even knowing the next trivia question...my answer is therefore...
NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN!

Yep, Pierce is right! Not "nominated" but "offered a nomination."
It looks like Mr. Benjamin was also previously offered the nomination by President Fillmore as well.
After the Civil War, Benjamin fled the USA and relocated to Great Britain where his legal career flourished again. Super-smart guy, apparently!

Sdoah1972 01-10-2006, 10:33 AM *Raises hand* It was moi! Simply by process of elimination. :D
